Progress Update: Sprites
[p]Hello all![/p][p]As we get closer to release (no I won’t give you a release date – I’d only miss it, but this year, I promise) I thought I might start sharing some of the features that are going to be in the final game.[/p][p]Voronica Goes to Town (VGT) is, of course, a follow up to the previous game – Voronica Cleans House (VCH). VCH had 5-7 different endings (depending on how you count them), so continuity isn’t strict, but it is there. Where the first game was a straight visual novel, this time the format is somewhat closer to a life sim. There are five time-slots per day and you need to balance Voronica earning money, keeping herself fed, and managing how much attention from the law she attracts.[/p][p]
[/p][p]One feature that this has enabled compared to VCH (which, essentially takes place over one unforgettable afternoon) is that Voronica’s sprite is far more dynamic, with her belly size increasing and decreasing depending on how much/how recently she’s eaten. She also now has a ‘bloodied’ state – again, represented on her sprite – which attracts extra attention if she’s been a messy eater (this is coupled with the random chance of belly struggles attracting extra attention if she takes the ‘swallow whole’ option).[/p][p]
[/p][p]
[/p][p][/p][p]Additionally, you will have access to a series of different outfits which confer various advantages – again, shown on Voronica’s sprite. There are about five of those which she has access to at any one time, with examples including Maid, Party dress and Gangster. Transformations – of course – continue to be a feature which I’ll go more into in another post – but just like VCH there are breast expansion (this time termed ‘Sensual’) and Feral variants.[/p][p]
[/p][p]So, for those who are interested in the math’s two variants (at a given time), five outfits, four belly sizes, and bloodied v.s. clean variants means that Voronica has 80 full sprite sets available… for each growth stage she enters. With four different sizes achieved throughout the game that’s 320 sprite sets, and with ~50 emotions per set that reaches around 16,000 individual sprites…[/p][p]…the total file size is a tad higher than I anticipated when I began development.[/p][p]This is not a brag, to be honest, if I’d done the maths when I planned things out, I probably would have chosen a more efficient path. But oh well, I think it gives the game a very dynamic and responsive vibe![/p]
