Temtem: Swarm joins Steam Next Fest with a free, public Demo!

Hi Tamers!

Temtem: Swarm's demo joins the list of amazing demos by amazing devs that make up Steam Next Fest!

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Next Fest is a celebration of upcoming games that happens three times a year. The one big perk? You have the possibility to try them all through their demos before they launch! Steam Next Fest lasts from October 14th until October 21st.

How could Temtem: Swarm not join this dance? Your feedback during the playtest was super valuable, and we're eager to see a lot more of you experience our TemCard-based survivor bullet heaven! You'll also be able to watch some of us at Crema play the game together, all while we talk about its development and bicker with each other.
Some frequently asked questions!
Q: Can I play the demo in co-op?
A: Yes! The Demo is playable in online co-op for up to three players, as well as solo. Playing solo doesn't require an internet connection.

Q: What’s the best way to give feedback or report a bug?
A: Please join our Discord server and look for the Swarm channels to share bug reports and any feedback you might have on the game. We also monitor feedback on Steam, though Discord is our primary channel for communication.

Q: How long will the demo last?
A: At the very least, until October 21st!.

Q: Will my progress be saved into the full version?
A: While we'd like to avoid a reset, since the game is still in development, it is likely that we would need to do it in the future. So, best to play knowing this might happen!

Q: Can I only play on Steam?
A: For now, Steam is the only platform where we're launching Temtem: Swarm, although we're not opposed to more platforms in the future. That said, Swarm runs beautifully on the Steam Deck!

Q: How many playable Tems are in the demo? And how do I unlock them?
A: There are four playable Tems in the Demo! You start out with Platypet, and we'll let you discover the rest without spoilers!

To unlock a new Temtem you must first obtain its egg. Defeating a boss or miniboss in an arena will grant you an egg of an specific typing, so make sure you try out all the arenas! Once you've obtained the egg you must play another run, and complete one hatching/capturing event. These events appear on the three-minute mark are adorned with a little egg icon on the screen, so follow that marker if you wanna unlock a new Tem! Once you complete the event, don't forget to grab the egg! It will break open to reveal your flaming new Tem, which you'll be able to select as your playable character in the next run you play.

If you have any more questions drop them in the comments and we'll do our best to answer them!

Next Fest is a fantastic opportunity to discover the next game on your wishlist, so we hope you'll give Temtem: Swarm a shot during this week, but most of all, we hope you enjoy it!

Patch 0.4.9.3

New stuff

  • Added a new and improved mouse control: click&follow.
    • The Temtem will now move in the direction the mouse is located (while holding the left click for now, but it will be remappable in the future).
    • The old virtual joystick system can still be selected in the settings, but the new one will be the default mouse control system.
    • Using a gamepad is the best way of controlling Temtem: Swarm. However many players prefer to use their mouse to play (or don't have a gamepad). The previous mouse control we had was more optimized towards touch screens and could be a bit confusing when used directly with a mouse, so we added this new one, which should be more familiar to regular players of the genre.

  • Co-op parties can now choose to share the experience gains instead of having different pools of experience per player.
    • The host can enable this setting in the co-op lobby.
    • While sharing experience, each cube will grant experience to all players when picked, but the amount of experience gained will be divided between all players so the total experience gain is the same as without sharing.
    • Players in soul form will not receive experience while experience is being shared.
    • While we believe the default and best way of playing Temtem: Swarm is without sharing experience, we wanted to provide this option too, so players who don't like battling for the experience cubes with their allies can have a different way of playing and enjoying the game. With the current setup we believe both modes are equally balanced, so there shouldn't be any reasons other than personal preference to choose one or another.

Improvements

  • We've reorganized the Pansun pickup tiers so they all represent Pansuns in different forms. This will remove the "crystals" from the game, which made sense in the lore but was confusing for new Temtem players, and provide clarity on how big the gain from the pickup is going to be.

  • The intro videos for Crema and GGTech will now be affected by the audio settings in the game.
  • We've further tweaked the level up formulas and rules to avoid some more cases where players were forced to replace a perk while other options (upgrading or picking a new one) would be possible.
  • Added a new in-game tutorial when picking up Pansuns to clarify their use, which can be a bit confusing since you can't use them until the Skill Tree is unlocked. We hope this helps!
  • The Temtem data card when selecting them will now include their armor stat.

Fixes

  • Fixed music being stopped when creating or joining a co-op lobby.
  • Fixed an internal error when choosing DC Beam+ in the level up.
  • Fixed spots timer disappearing after activating it under some circumstances.
  • Fixed chests spawning in inaccessible areas in co-cop.
  • Fixed invulnerability pickup VFX and SFX not being synchronized.
  • Fixed some incorrect typings on some enemy Tems.
  • Fixed co-op guest players listening both the lobby and the ingame music in some runs.
  • Fixed Daredevil's Cloak not working correctly while in a co-op party.
