Support the future of WWII Online!

In case you haven't heard yet, we're moving the server base to Portland, Oregon. Since the beginning, the servers have been in Dallas TX, so why the move? Continue reading to find out more, and support this effort (along with others) directly by contributing to the WWII Online funding campaign.

For sometime now Cornered Rat Software has been working hard to improve and amplify the WWII Online experience. We've effectively restarted game development, added new content and features, and continue to provide bug fixes. We've also re-worked the servers a bit, but there's more to be done.

Not only will the move to Portland OR help provide great connectivity across the globe, it is the home-base of Cornered Rat Software, and the West Coast of USA is where most of our technical team is. Logistically, it makes a lot of sense.

The good news is, we'll be able to retain servers obtained through other efforts that meet the power / performance / remote management requirements that we have. By doing this, we can achieve more and improve up-times.

We're asking for your financial commitment to help us set up this all-new, better connected, better cooled and operated server housing site by contributing directly to the WWII Online funding campaign. By doing this, you're enabling CRS to achieve more, for you.

The more support that comes in, the better of a job we can do to not only create this new server setup (which will also reduce recurring monthly operating costs on our end - enabling more game development), but it will also allow us to purchase important tools and assets to enhance the games performance and visual appeal.

Please contribute to, and support this vital effort at www.wwiionline.com/fund.

WWII Online remains 100% community funded. Your support is greatly appreciated, and funding drives like these help us move mountains in terms of progress made.

Here is the short list of priorities that this funding campaign is designed to support:
  1. Create a whole new server base for WWII Online.
  2. Renew essential software for game development.
  3. Obtain a newer version of SpeedTree to improve graphics of environmental objects.
  4. Support the development of the current Roadmap.
  5. Enhance marketing reach to obtain new players.

Funding Drive

We have some big objectives we're requesting your assistance to make some great progress for the game. Among those listed is moving the servers to a new colocation in Portland, Oregon. Moving to this facility will benefit player experiences across the board, including dedicated ISP's (Internet Service Provider) for Countries like Australia, Europe, and China! There are many other items covered in this funding drive, and we are only 14% funded. We can't stress the importance of this funding drive and how all these items will benefit everyone in game!

Behind the Scenes

As summer ends and everyone is back from Holiday, new developments were revealed during last week's CRS (internal) Team meeting:
  • 64 bit is now in Quality Assurance (QA) hands for testing
  • Netcode3 client/packet update is also in testing by QA
  • Fighter and bomber variant load-outs

These items will be implemented as they are ready.

Converting to 64 bit has been a daunting task. It literally changed most (if not all) of the code for the game. QA is tasked with stress-testing every facet of WWII Online for potential bugs and reporting back to the Development team with their findings.

Netcode3 deals with player packets and how they are sent/received in game. Recent developments improve the efficiency of these packets. We are anticipating less lag/un-killable experiences across the board.

This is a fraction of what is happening behind the scenes, and a testament of our commitment to the WWII Online community. We have some big objectives we're working on that require your assistance.

Welcome Back Soldier!

All inactive players will get FREE FULL ACESS from October 1st through the 15th! Y

Remember that all former free rifle accounts will be closed after this WBS offer. Only new accounts will get 30 days all-infantries access. Stay tuned for more free events in the future.

SALUTE!

Readme: Version 1.36.2.1

We released a hot fix focused on fixing two client crashes, an AWS issue and a couple of manuals got repaired. We'll also be adding some anti-griefing stuff and an automation to make mission creation a tad bit easier. Great for players, is the re-addition of the "Player Ping" information which has now been color coded for good - neutral - bad connectivity. We hope this feedback is used productively so you can make modifications on your end, such as getting off that WiFI / going hardline ethernet for best packet transmissions. Also new, you guys can change the color of green tags (new players) for the first time. Please keep reading for specific details.
