Long Live The Queen News

[p]It's moving, it's shaking! We are pushing forward with updating the version of the game engine that Long Live The Queen runs on in order to improve compatibility with modern machines. We're also implementing cloud save and a few other Steam-based features. We've been testing this for a while but it's a BIG change and big changes can cause a little bit of chaos - please check in on the discussion thread here if you run into any problems so we can get right into fixing it.[/p][p][/p][p]The old version IS still available if needed but it's important to report problems so we can fix them first.[/p][p][/p][p]Please keep bug feedback in the discussion thread and not a reply to this event (which is harder for Spiky to see and reply to!)[/p]

After the end of this Winter Sale, I intend to retire the big discount bundle that covers all of our pre-Zorana games together. It's just too big and unwieldy and most people don't want to buy all the games all at once, even with a bonus discount. Therefore I intend to shut it down by the end of January and free up more page space.

With that in mind I wanted to give people a heads-up because this will be the last chance to get the "buy everything you didn't already own" discount on top of the "everything is on sale" discount.

[p]Currently live on the beta branch is an update which moves the RenPy version forward quite a bit to help the game run on more recent computers as well as adding some potential cloud save support. If you have some free time, we would LOVE to have you switch over to the beta branch to play a bit and report any problems you encounter (Or things that work better!) I've tested it a little myself but this is changing the engine so much that we did run into some really WEIRD bugs - we've fixed all the ones we know about but more eyeballs are definitely appreciated here.[/p][p][/p][p]You can access the beta by right-clicking on the game in tyour library and selecting Properties, then Betas, then select the relevant one from the dropdown (beta - Testing engine upgrade, December 2025) [/p][p][/p][p]Global changes:[/p]

• [p]Engine upgrade. The game now runs under Ren'Py 8.5.x. This drops compatibility with some older machines (however, the Steam client doesn't work on those anyhow) and should work better on newer machines. When the new version movea to stable, we will create an extra beta branch so you can switch back to the older engine if you're running on a computer where the old engine worka better than the new one.[/p]
• [p] Cloud save support (still in testing).[/p]
• [p] LLtQ 1.5 should be able to load old saves, however, older versions of the game will not be able to load 1.5 saves. There may still be some old saves that don't load in 1.5; if you encounter a save that crashes in 1.5 but works in an older version, let us know.[/p]
• [p] Video preferences screen improved.[/p]
• [p] Minor UI cleanup.[/p]
• [p] Epilogue window updates now propagate over Steam instead of being limited to the machine you're playing on.[/p]
• [p] Logfiles saved after you die will be saved as defeat.html instead of victory.html.[/p]
• [p] Added a Galaxy Princess Zorana image to the bonus image gallery. [/p]

[p]Windows-specific changes:[/p]

• [p] Onscreen keyboard improved.[/p]
• [p] Fix crash saving HTML logs if there were non-ASCII cahracters in the path the log was saved to.[/p]
• [p] Fix to a couple achievement-unlock bugs.[/p]
• [p] Typo fixes.[/p]

[p]KNOWN ISSUES:[/p]

• [p] 1.5 breaks translation support. It is planned to fix this in 1.5.1, though there is a possibility that some translation files will need to be updated to work right in the new engine. It's fine to report issues you encounter with translation but just be aware that this is totally expected right now. It's in progress.[/p]
• [p](1.5.1 is now available so translation should be possible again, see the discussion thread for details)[/p]

After that, I'm going to need to take a break from political backstabbing and work on something a little simpler for a while. [/p][p]Will there ever be a third game in this bundle?
