Whispers of the Eyeless News

Major Update #1 - New Side Quest System, Preach Tales, and 14 New Quests

Our first major update is here and to celebrate, Whispers of the Eyeless is 25% off!

Old Town has been waiting. Watching. A place of faded grandeur, where whispered prayers rise with the smoke of a thousand guttering candles, and the faithful—desperate, devout, or simply doomed—seek meaning in the ever-growing dark. With this update, the streets of Old Town finally unfold, revealing a full narrative arc, new trials of faith, and the weight of decisions that can shape the city’s future.

This is more than just a deeper dive into the campaign. The Sanctum now pulses with life—or something eerily close to it—as Callings shift, Sacrifices take on new gravity, and a voice lingers in the shadows of every choice you make. Preach Tales emerge as a new way to spread the gospel of the Dead Gods, offering a chance to steer the faithful… or bend them to something far worse. And through it all, the Prophet moves forward, one step closer to whatever end awaits.

This is The Old Town Reckoning. It is a turning point, an expansion, and an invitation to sink deeper into the city's secrets.
Your Words Matter More Than You Think

We don’t have a marketing team. No big publisher running ads. Just a handful of people pouring everything we have into Whispers of the Eyeless and hoping it finds the players who’ll love it. Reviews—honest ones, from people who’ve walked the city’s streets and made their choices—are how that happens.

They help more than algorithms. They tell us what lingers in your mind long after you’ve closed the game. They remind us why we’re making this at all.

If Whispers has meant something to you, we’d love to hear it. Even a sentence makes a difference. And if you’ve already left one—thank you. You’re the reason we get to keep building this world.

"The city does not resist us—it only pretends to. Its walls crumble with whispers, its people kneel with a word. But the Gods? They do not whisper. They demand." - The Prophet

Whispers of the Eyeless: Major Update Coming Soon

Major Update 1 will launch during the Steam Spring Sale, and you can get Whispers of the Eyeless now for 25% off. This update introduces a new and improved Side Quest system. Where the previous system mirrored our Main Quests—including cinematics transitioning into interactable scenes—the new system is snappier and allows us to bring many more Side Quests into the game than previously planned.
Shaping the Faith

The Cult grows, adapts, and takes new forms with every decision—both yours and ours. Whether it’s refining the Side Quest system, expanding your choices, or deepening the city’s mysteries, your feedback guides the path forward.

Keep sharing your thoughts, and if you haven’t yet, leave a Steam review—your words help shape what the Cult becomes.
Decisions, Decisions

In Main Quests, players search interactable scenes for clues, objects to investigate, and people to speak to, ultimately making choices that will progress the quest from one scene to the next. Previously, Side Quests mirrored this system, but now are presented in the form of a painting that changes as the player hovers the mouse over the image.

By listening to the Prophet set the scene and studying the painted image, players can make their choice, see the outcome of their decision, and get back to managing the Cult.
New Choices, New Consequences

Thanks to the simplicity of this new system, we have been able to create many more interesting Side Quests for you to discover. Some will be based on the choices you make in Main Quests, while others will unlock based on how you manage the Cult. Update 1 will launch with 11 new Side Quests, which, along with the 3 current Side Quests, brings our total to 14.

Update Preview: Cult Leader's Preaching

Update 1 introduces Preaching, a new way to spread divine influence without raising suspicion. Instead of confronting the city directly, the Prophet seeks out converts—choosing individuals aligned with Wrath, Desire, or Madness to strengthen their god’s power. Preaching lowers district threat, expands the Cult’s reach, and offers a safer path to influence.

This post breaks down how Preaching works, its strategic benefits, and how it fits into the Cult’s rise. For the full scope of what’s coming, check out the roadmap for all upcoming content.
How Spreading the Word Works

Spreading the Word replaces a Tale for the day, shifting the Prophet’s focus from direct action to shaping belief. In each district, you’ll scan the crowd, identifying up to six potential converts—each tied to Wrath, Desire, or Madness.

 • Each chosen individual strengthens their god’s influence, feeding into that god’s meter.
 • Spreading the Word lowers district threat instead of raising it, making it a safer way to grow power.
 • Progression unlocks more selections, starting at two converts and scaling up to ten at higher tiers.
Every name, every whisper, every step in this ritual deepens the Cult’s grip on the city.
The Power of Choice

Each convert fuels the rise of Wrath, Desire, or Madness, shaping the Cult’s abilities and presence.

 • Wrath spreads through fire and force, drawing the strong and the ruthless.
 • Desire weaves through gold and secrets, seducing the city from within.
 • Madness spills from the unknown, unraveling minds and bending reality itself.
The more converts found, the stronger the god’s presence—and the greater the rewards.
A Tool, Not a Weapon

Unlike other actions, Spreading the Word does not provoke Aranthor’s authorities. It builds quietly, reinforcing influence without drawing unwanted attention. Used wisely, it’s a way to strengthen the Cult while keeping the city’s gaze elsewhere.
The First Step in Something Larger

Spreading the Word is just the beginning. As Whispers of the Eyeless expands, so do the ways to shape the world—not just through bloodshed, but through belief.
The Prophet speaks. Aranthor listens.

The Road Ahead: Whispers of the Eyeless Roadmap

As the Prophet’s influence spreads, Whispers of the Eyeless continues to evolve, bringing new mechanics, deeper narratives, and an expanding world for players to unravel. This roadmap outlines what’s coming — from major content updates to the full release.

the first major update focuses on Old Town—a district where faith is tested, power is seized, and every decision reshapes the Cult’s future. This update brings the full Old Town story arc, expanding on the Prophet’s role in gathering followers, securing the Sanctum, and determining the fate of the district.

Beyond narrative expansion, new gameplay mechanics emerge. Preaching allows players to spread divine influence, growing the strength of Wrath, Desire, or Madness through targeted conversions. Passive Events introduce unpredictable moments that test the Cult’s stability, offering rewards or dangers based on the Prophet’s actions.

This is the first step in expanding Whispers of the Eyeless, bringing deeper systems, more player agency, and an evolving world shaped by faith, ambition, and consequences.

Here’s what’s coming in Update 1 right after a message to all of you incredible cultists.
Gratitude and Madness in Equal Measure

Sixty Steam reviews. Sixty voices whispering in the dark, carving out a place for Whispers of the Eyeless among the damned and the devoted. We see them. We hear them. And we appreciate every single one.

Our next major milestone is 100 reviews. If you’ve enjoyed your time in the abyss, drop a review and help pull more lost souls into the fold. Whatever your thoughts are, positive, negative or in between, your feedback not only helps us know what you want next. But it also lets Steam know, "Hey, more people ought to see Whispers!", and that is major.

For a team with no publisher, no safety net, and nothing but a vision, your support means everything. This is our first game — a dream that’s taken shape through sheer determination, late nights, and more caffeine than is medically advisable.

Now let's get into the roadmap.

Now for the details for Update 1's content.
The Old Town Arc: Cults, Consequences, and Control

Old Town is the Prophet’s testing ground, where faith, ambition, and a creeping sense of doom dictate the future. The Cult grows, the Sanctum expands, and with each new recruit, another piece of the puzzle falls into place. Every new NPC unlocks a room in the Sanctum, along with a tutorial that introduces fresh mechanics as players move deeper into the game’s layers.

Three main quests shape the district’s transformation, forcing decisions that determine who will oversee key rooms. Each choice carries weight, triggering consequence quests that branch in different directions. Six additional side quests emerge from player actions, independent of the main narrative but still shaping the Cult’s grip over Old Town.

Once all three main quests are complete, a final choice looms: the fate of Old Town itself. The Prophet claims the district in the name of the Dead Gods, but how that plays out depends on everything that came before.

This entire arc is woven into the game’s tutorial system, letting players absorb mechanics naturally instead of dumping information upfront. No info overload, no hand-holding—just decisions, ripple effects, and the gradual realization that every step forward leaves a mark.
Spread the Word: The Power of Preach

Preach replaces a Tale for the day, shifting focus from storytelling to spreading divine influence. Players must find up to six individuals in a crowd, each aligned with Wrath, Desire, or Madness.

Each identified follower is marked, making their allegiance clear. Unlike other actions, Preaching lowers district threat rather than increasing it, allowing for safer influence-building. Unlocking Preach requires progression, starting at two selections and scaling up to ten at higher tiers.

Selecting them strengthens the chosen god’s meter, granting increasing bonuses as more are found.
