Top Blokes wins RLCS Season X Winter event thanks to dramatic finals comeback

Top Blokes faced off against Team Queso in the final of the Rocket League Championship Series Season X Winter EU Regional yesterday, and fans of both teams knew they were in for a dramatic match. Top Blokes was hoping to close the gap to the teams at the top of the World Championship qualification leaderboard, while Team Queso would need a bracket reset before it could think about victory.

Coming from the loser's bracket and needing to win two sets to emerge victorious, Team Queso was surprisingly the underdogs coming into the final. The final came down to overtime in the seventh match, during which Top Blokes scored to take a 1-0 victory.

However, it was Top Blokes' comeback in the fourth set that really grabbed viewers' attention and made anyone who has ever attempted to climb the Rocket League ranks break out into a jealous fervour. Top Blokes was up two matches to one, but Team Queso scored with nine seconds to go, taking the fourth match score to 4-2, and all but sealing its victory.

Rocket League Season 2 adds goal celebration music and a new arena

It might only seem like yesterday that Psyonix announced that Rocket League was going free-to-play, but in fact a whole season has passed. Now the team is getting ready to launch Rocket League Season 2, which will be a celebration of music, and include a new Rocket Pass, a new arena, and player anthems.

While the new musical-themed items in the Rocket Pass will certainly catch many Rocket League fans eyes, we can guarantee the new player anthems feature will turn a few heads. This is because now instead of spamming 'What a Save!" over and over again in chat, you'll be able to play a song instead once the new season starts on December 9. We're not quite sure what the anthems will be just yet, but given the game is including songs from Kaskade in the new season, expect there to be some bangers.

The new arena, which is called Neon Fields, even takes its inspiration from EDM and will be available to play on in both online and private matches. Combine that with the new R3MX car and new decals that will pulse and flash to the beat of the menu and arena music, and you've got yourself a little rave in-game.

Rocket League will support 120 FPS on the Xbox Series X|S

While next-gen offers a slew of improvements on new games like Spider Man: Miles Morale, old titles are also getting performance-enhancing boosts. One of those games is Rocket League, meaning you'll finally be able to flip reset in beautiful 4K resolution.

In a new post on the official Rocket League website, Psyonix says it is planning to release two new updates which will help the game run at its best on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The first has already shipped and allows players to enjoy the game at 4K/60 FPS and HDR on the Xbox Series X, and 1080p/60FPS and HDR on Xbox Series S. PS5 players will be able to enjoy 4K resolution (checkerboard) at 60 FPS with HDR.

While the update will improve the graphical quality of the game, it'll also improve loading screen times and split-screen performance, something that fits in nicely with both consoles' lightning-quick SSD.

Wolves Esports expands into Rocket League

Wolverhampton Wanderers has become the first Premier League football team to enter the Rocket League Championship Series with their esports team, Wolves Esports. The organisation also competes in games such as PUBG, FIFA 21 and FIFA Online 4, but has now decided to expand into a Rocket League scene that a handful of football clubs have ventured into before.

The new team features three players: team captain Rix Ronday who joins from Libertas, Luis 'LuiisP' Peña from Edelweiss Esports, and Ole 'Oaly' Van Doorn from Barrage Esports. The team is set to compete in the RLCS X Winter Split which will begin on November 12 08:00 PST or 16:00 GMT.

In the announcement, Wolves general manager for marketing and commercial growth, Russell Jones, says "Signing such talented and ambitious players to represent our Rocket League esports team is another step forward in our journey to build stories outside of football and widen the appeal of the Wolves brand across the world." Wolves aren't the first football club to dip a toe into Rocket League, with the likes of AS Monaco and Barcelona having fielded teams.
