Veil of the Witch Patch Notes (11/13/2024)

Dear Tacticians,

What a week! We released Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch on Early Access last Tuesday and it’s been such a blast seeing everyone play the game and discuss their strategies and tricks!

As you all know, we released the game on Early Access first so that we can continue to improve and develop the game with our players. And we have to say, our Tacticians did not disappoint! A lot of you have shared your thoughts and suggestions on making the game better and we’ve taken them to heart, which brings us to the new minor update for the game.

Here are the changes within version 0.06.004 that we’ve made to the game:

  • Added new enemy illustrations
  • Added new event NPC illustrations

[h3]Changes / Improvements[/h3]
  • Adjusted movement skills such as “Push” or “Swap Positions” so that players cannot use these skills with objects
  • Added a shortcut key "C" to check character info when event dialogue options are displayed to allow for better informed decisions
  • Added the ability to view the Expedition Log within the menu while in battle
  • Removed shortcut key to always show grid from battle control settings
    • Players can still toggle the “Show Grid” option within the game settings
  • Added a damage reduction buff to allies when choosing to stay and fight in certain battle situations
  • Modified the conversation text when you defeat a boss for the second time
  • Adjusted the starting camera position for some battles

[h3]Bug Fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed the issue where it was still possible to acquire multiple mythic skills despite owning the Black Vial relic
  • Fixed the issue where relics could not be dug up when the Map to Hidden Relics event was triggered more than once
  • Fixed the issue where the Tree of Life would drift when placed in rapid currents
  • Fixed the issue where the game would freeze when the Greater Blessing of Sword skill triggered to attack two enemies on counter attacks
  • Fixed the issue where partnership points were awarded to another ally not within the party, and increased the amount of partnership points (25 -> 50)
  • Fixed the issue where the Jeweled Bookmark relic allowed unlimited training within camp
  • Fixed the issue where Quick Attack+ was not allowing the intended attack range
  • Fixed the issue where the Wraith Guardian relic was applied when an Ice Wall was destroyed
  • Fixed the issue where the "Song of Fire and Wind" Steam achievement would be unlocked when the enemy met the conditions
  • Fixed the issue of the controller input being on a different screen layer when choosing a skill
  • Fixed the issue where the Bernhardt Steam hidden achievement was not unlocked after using an undo
  • Fixed the issue where enemies would spawn on top of each other
  • Fixed the issue where the game could not be controlled by the gamepad within certain menus
  • Fixed the issue where a graphical glitch would appear when rolling the dice in 1280x720 resolution
  • Fixed the issue where the Decisive Strike skill would keep all skill cooldowns at 0 for the entirety of a battle
  • Fixed the issue where the Conspirator’s Ring relic did not apply the discount if the shop had been accessed prior to obtaining the relic
  • Fixed the issue where there were text overlaps and cut offs
  • Fixed the improper navigation order on the Setting's Gameplay when playing with controller
  • Fixed the issue where some text did not change when changing languages
  • Fixed the issue where an incorrect battle indicator icon would sometimes display in the Forked Road
  • Fixed the issue where the incorrect number of Sacred Embers was displayed for upgraded versions of lamp items
  • Fixed the issue where incorrect surroundings were applied after spending a night at camp
  • Fixed conversations where the player character’s gender was not reflected correctly
  • Fixed the issue where the in-game achievement for promoting Ashe to the Light Mage would unlock multiple achievements, while promoting Ashe to a different class would not trigger the respective achievement
  • Fixed the issue where the pop-up for characters recovering health would show up twice when resting at a campsite
  • Fixed the issue where intermittent freezing occurred when previewing a skill during battle

Not only that, with all of our players coming together from day one to share any bugs or issues that they experienced, we were able to quickly hotfix some critical bugs, which saved other Tacticians the trouble of experiencing them!

Here’s a list of the hotfixes that we patched since the launch:

  • Fixed the issue where the game was stuck after the credits
  • Fixed the issue where the Copycat skill could also imitate enemy skills

  • Fixed additional issues that prevented game progression after the credits
Ver. 0.05.008 - Hotfix #3
  • Fixed the issue where shortcut keys did not work after leaving the Crossroads of Death
  • Fixed the issue where shortcut keys did not work after using the change name pop-up for a character
Ver. 0.05.009 - Hotfix #4
  • Fixed the issue where players were stuck at the Crossroads of Death after losing to the Act 3 boss
  • Fixed the issue where players could not select on units during battle
Ver. 0.05.010 - Hotfix #5
  • Fixed the issue where players were stuck at the Crossroads of Death after abandoning an expedition

We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting this day. Whether you became fans of our first game, Lost Eidolons, demoed the game at some live events like Gamescom or PAX, or just recently discovered us during last month’s Steam Next Fest, your support has brought us to this exciting moment: the Early Access launch of Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch!

Our team of nine developers are die-hard fans of turn-based strategy games and consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to expand the Lost Eidolons franchise. This time, we've built on the foundation of a turn-based tactical RPG and added a roguelite twist to keep gameplay fresh and engaging!

Through closed betas and multiple demos, we’ve gathered valuable feedback from you, our community, which have guided us in refining the game. We recently shared a dev log looking back on our journey to Early Access, which you can read up on here. But this is just the beginning of our Early Access journey. We’ll continue refining and adding new features as we progress through Early Access and will keep you updated every step of the way.

Dev Log #9: Journey to Early Access

Hello, this is the development team behind Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch.

Only four days left until the Early Access launch!

After the release of our first game, Lost Eidolons, we received a wide range of feedback, which led us to reflect deeply. Although everyone on the development team poured their passion into the game, we recognized that our lack of experience with story-based, turn-based RPGs led us to overlook some aspects. Through feedback on areas that needed improvement, as well as positive responses to the combat mechanics, we gained an opportunity to internally assess how we can develop even more engaging and enjoyable turn-based strategy RPGs in the future.

After much consideration, we decided to work on Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch. And before the launch of Early Access, we’d like to take this time to briefly share our vision for the game and the improvements we’ve made based on the valuable feedback from various tests we conducted.

[h2][The Vision for Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch][/h2]

Veil of the Witch is a spin-off, not a sequel, to the original Lost Eidolons. While we haven’t yet decided on developing a full sequel, we hope to showcase the future potential of the Lost Eidolons franchise with this spin-off.

The vision for Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch is as follows:
  • Primary Goal: Offer strategic depth and enjoyment in grid-based turn-based combat.
  • Second Goal: Provide faster character growth and quicker battles compared to other turn-based RPGs.
  • Third Goal: Continuously deliver fresh experiences with each playthrough (expedition).
  • Fourth Goal: Present a captivating story within the Lost Eidolons world.

To achieve these goals, we’ve incorporated “roguelite elements” into this game. These features allow characters to grow rapidly within a single expedition, with each character gaining unique skills and stats along the way. The ever-changing battle scenarios add a strategic layer that keeps combat fresh and engaging. With the choice to create a five-person team from a roster of nine characters, various upgrades, and class changes, players will experience a wide variety of strategic choices.

We set out to tackle the common issues of repetition in grid-based turn-based RPGs, where lengthy battles, rigid growth patterns, and repetitive combat can limit replayability. By incorporating roguelite elements and emphasizing diverse battle scenarios, we aim to overcome these challenges. We hope you’ll give the game a try and share your feedback with us!

[h2][Our Development Journey up to Early Access] [/h2]

Since introducing the project in September 2023, we’ve dedicated our efforts to development, testing, and refining the game based on player feedback. We held two internal tests in March and April 2024, followed by a Friends and Family test in May, and our first official closed beta in July. Each of these tests provided valuable feedback that guided improvements. We also hosted demo sessions at Gamescom in August and PAX West in September, and received additional insights from participants in Steam Next Fest this October.

Throughout this journey, we gathered valuable feedback that we incorporated into the game, leading to steadily improving survey results. Notably, our scores for combat enjoyment and turn-based RPG satisfaction rose from the 7s to an impressive 8.57 and 8.91, respectively.

[h3]#1 The Altar of Fire [/h3]

One consistently received feedback was that the Altar of Fire’s upgrade options felt too simple and lacked impact. In response, we’ve modified the Altar of Fire as shown below and will continue updating it based on feedback.



[h3]#2 UI/UX Improvements [/h3]

We’ve made extensive UI/UX improvements. Negative feedback significantly decreased since the closed beta, and we’ll continue to enhance quality-of-life improvements based on user feedback.

For example, we are implementing quality-of-life improvements, such as enhancing the visibility of interactive objects below.



Also, improvements under development, expected to be added during or after EA, include:
  • Addition of an End Turn hotkey.
  • Addition of a button to move back to the furthest point when using Undo
  • Controller improvements at crossroads.
  • Better explanations for stat points awarded upon leveling up.
  • Improved display and visibility for character status effects.
  • And more to come…

[h3]#3 Combat Balance Improvements [/h3]

We are satisfied with the general combat balance. However, based on recent feedback from Steam Next Fest, we plan to adjust Elena's trap skill by adding extra damage while keeping the current usage format.

[h3]Other Feedbacks [/h3]

We also received feedback on aspects such as voice acting, the balance of relics, and difficulty levels. The good news is that we have plans to add voice acting before the official release. As for the feedback regarding relic balance and difficulty, we’ll monitor these elements during Early Access and make further adjustments based on player input.

[h2][Post-Early Access Journey] [/h2]

The primary goal of Early Access is to focus on detailed game balance and UI/UX improvements based on player feedback. We’re committed to enhancing our development capabilities as a turn-based RPG team, and we greatly appreciate the insights from genre fans that help us refine the game.
