Devlog - Episode 6

Welcome to Ketz: Galactic Overlords Devlog Episode 6

In this devlog, we’re unveiling new systems and design philosophies that continue to evolve the Ketz experience. From strategic challenge mechanics to smarter enemies and a sneak peek at our next playable hero. This dev sets the stage for even deeper gameplay customization and variety.
The Reimagined Challenge Box (Future Updates)
We’re thrilled to announce we are redesigning the Challenge Box system.

What was once a linear difficulty selector is now a living system; built around progression, experimentation, and player-driven decision making.

At its core, the new Challenge Box will be a point-based structure.Throughout your runs, you’ll complete specific objectives and earn Challenge Points. These points are your key to unlocking harder challenges in your next run.

The system is laid out as a challenge tree, branching into three distinct challenge categories:

 • Empowered Enemies: Enemies gain more health, hit harder, spawn in larger waves, and bosses become significantly more dangerous.
 • Player Debuffs: Your base stats like max health, attack speed, or movement speed are reduced, demanding new survival strategies.
 • Resource Limiters: Potions heal less, health pickups restore fewer points, and resource gain across the run becomes limited.

As you explore each branch, you’ll activate nodes. Some increase item drop rates, while others provide small but powerful buffs.

The new Challenge Box is about more than just difficulty; it’s about risk, mastery, and growth. And it will evolve as you do.
Evolving Enemies of the New Chapter
With the arrival of our next chapter, enemy behavior is stepping up to the next level.

We’re moving beyond raw stat upgrades. Now, enemies don’t just hit harder; they behave differently.

Every enemy type is gaining new behavioral diversity through enhanced M2 variants.
Let’s break it down:

 • A basic melee enemy may only strike you in its original form. But its M2 variant? It explodes on death, leaving behind a toxic cloud that punishes careless movement.
 • A ranged attacker normally shoots projectiles. Its M2 version? Those same projectiles now grant shields to nearby allies upon contact, turning a damage-dealer into an unexpected support unit.

This level of behavioral depth turns familiar encounters into moments of surprise; even for veteran players. You’ll never be quite sure what an upgraded enemy might do, and that’s exactly the point.

Even bosses are changing. Through the Challenge Box, certain challenge nodes now modify boss behavior, increasing the frequency or complexity of their special abilities.

This feature isn’t just about making enemies tougher; it’s about making them unpredictable, dynamic, and truly exciting to fight.
A Glimpse of What’s Coming: New Character Sneak Peek (Future Updates)
A new hero is in development, and while we’re keeping most details under wraps for now, we couldn’t resist teasing what’s to come.

This upcoming hero will be the sixth playable character in Ketz; bringing an entirely new rhythm and role to combat.

Unlike our existing five characters, this one fights at mid-range, wielding a whip-based weapon designed to control space and string together graceful, deadly combos.

Their skill set bridges the gap between melee and ranged; offering unique mechanics for crowd control, zone denial, and high-tempo movement.

We’ll be revealing more art, animation, and gameplay in the near future. For now, consider this your first taste of something... a little snappier.

All of the systems and features shown in this devlog are designed to give players more choice, more surprises, and more ways to play. Whether you’re here for strategic depth, fresh combat dynamics, or new heroes to master; Ketz is growing in every direction.

Thanks again for being on this journey with us.

NOTE: The Challenge Box and new character planning for later updates which following the Chapter 2 update. For now, we are focusing on testing and improving Chapter 2.
