Devlog #13: The Sand Mask: A Source of Inspiration – May 28th, 2025

Hi, Gamers!

Tina here—Social Media Expert and Host at RolldBox Games. Today, I’m chatting with Cris, the Art Director of the studio at RolldBox Games and Ferran, one of our Co-Founders, as well as the Game Designer and Creative Director of the studio at RolldBox Games 👋

We’re getting closer and closer to the moment we can finally share Masks of the Void with all of you — it’s not far off now!

We can’t wait for you to discover the story behind this anti-stress roguelite, as some of our playtesters call it.

While the launch approaches, we wanted to give you another glimpse into how we get inspired and how we bring our ideas to life.

We know you love seeing how the team works behind the scenes — so here’s a brand-new Devlog just for you!
Inside the Development Process
We shared some details about the Sand Mask in our last Devlog, and now we want to take you deeper into how we came up with it:

From both the Art and Game Design sides, our goal with all the masks is to convey strength, power, and intensity. That feeling comes through in the shape of each mask, its powers, and the effects crafted by our Technical Artist to bring everything to life.

For the Sand Mask, in particular, the Game Design team focused on a single-direction launch mechanic. We wanted it to channel the Glass Cannon archetype — and what better material than sand to hint at something as fragile and sharp as glass? ✨

🔹 We designed this mask to let you take down powerful enemies like the Sand Guards in a single hit — but only if your spatial awareness is on point:

And to match all that power, we had to find the tricky balance in Iret’s cloak effects: showing the maximum info in the simplest way possible, with style and clarity.

🔹 What do you think of this Sand Mask cloak? Once again, we want the mask’s power to stand out in this World of Sand:

Speaking of masks, let’s check out what the Blood Mask can do — and you can try it yourself in the available Demo.

Did you know you can grab every object around you, make them orbit, and throw them whenever you want?

Give it a try and share your thoughts!

🔹 We're showing off this awesome poster our Art Team made — again, because it just looks too cool not to!
What do you think?
