Two of 2023's best games get big discounts in Capcom Steam sale

Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6 prove that Capcom is still right on top of its game, with the pair being among the best games of the year by many metrics. In a new Steam sale celebrating The Game Awards, where SF6 took home the best fighting game award and RE4 Remake was a nominee for the top prize, both games are given spectacular discounts, making it a great time to grab them cheap. Resident Evil 4 remade as a fixed-camera, classic survival horror game

Resident Evil 4 Remake is a terrific example of how to reinvent a classic game without sacrificing what initially made it great. The guns are louder, the combat is tougher, and the visuals are superb, but the fundamentals of the first RE4 remain. Now, Capcom's superlative action horror has been remade again, only this time with a slightly different set of ambitions. Imagining an alternate dimension where Resident Evil 4 was released around 1998, this is the landmark, Leon Kennedy over-the-shoulder shooter but with fixed cameras, 2D backgrounds, and wonderful polygonal graphics, and you can check out the whole thing right now.

Baldur's Gate 3 gets GOTY nomination, but there's a big game missing

Baldur's Gate 3 is undoubtedly this year's best game in my opinion, and possibly even this decade's greatest, too. With The Game Awards 2023 nearing, the event just announced its nominees for this year's GOTY award. Unsurprisingly, Larian Studios' behemoth RPG is among those nominated, as are other banger games like Alan Wake 2. What is surprising though, is that Bethesda's interstellar entry, Starfield, didn't make the cut for Game of the Year.

Capcom is working on a next-generation RE Engine successor

Capcom has revealed that it is working on a successor to RE Engine. While details are currently fairly light, we do know that it has been codenamed REX Engine, standing for RE neXt Engine, apparently. This was all revealed during a presentation at the ongoing RE: 2023 conference, hosted by programmer Tomofumi Ishida.
