Resident Evil 4 Remake easter egg links back pleasingly to RE2

Capcom recently shared some in-depth gameplay of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, which looks like it will ratchet up the spooks of the horror game series in contrast to the 2005 original, while still paying homage to it. This isn't the only homage in the recent gameplay we saw though, as Capcom has made direct reference to its Resident Evil 2 Remake from 2019 with one minor detail.

Resident Evil 4 Remake gameplay shows you seriously can't pet the dog

Resident Evil 4 Remake, the upcoming Capcom horror game which aims to continue the success of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and a swathe of survival horror revivals including Dead Space, Alan Wake, and Silent Hill 2, just got a brand new gameplay trailer at the Resident Evil Showcase. It looks fantastic, but one vital thing has changed, and as a longstanding RE4 fan, I'm heartbroken.

Resident Evil 4 remake release date announced

The Resident Evil 4 remake now has an official release date. Sony and Capcom revealed that the remake of Resident Evil 4 will launch March 24, 2023, and they showed off a first official look at the horror game's gameplay during Sony's State of Play.

The trailer was, as is typical of the Resident Evil series, oozing with atmosphere, and included shots of Leon Kennedy walking along a trail toward the game's village, as well as a shot from his ride on the train. The game has been completely rebuilt, and the brief shots of gameplay show off some of the new tech Capcom will be bringing to bear in the remake.

We'd heard rumours about a coming reveal for the Resident Evil 4 last year ahead of Gamescom, but it seems Capcom needed a bit more time to get all of las plagas positioned correctly for maximum scares.
