The Legend of California Alpha Coming Soon

[p]The enthusiasm we've seen since The Legend of California was announced has been overwhelming in the best way possible, and we appreciate that so many of you have shown up for the game so early on.[/p][p][/p][p]We'll be hosting our first public playtest, The Legend of California Alpha, from March 26 - March 30 right here on Steam. This is an important moment for both the game and our studio, and we're excited to be able to share it with this community as well as welcome more players onto the Island of California.[/p][p][/p][p]If you’re interested in joining the playtest, you can sign up by going to the main store page and clicking the \[Request Access] button (right above “Add to your wishlist”). The playtest itself will be very small, so that means that not everyone who signs up will be invited to play. If you’re selected to participate, you’ll receive a Steam notification and the alpha client will be automatically added to your game library.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]If you’d like to learn more about The Legend of California, developers Jeff Kaplan and Tim Ford livestreamed the game for over 10 hours this past weekend, digging into various systems, mechanics, and features, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the game's development, and answering questions from chat. Check out the full VOD below![/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]PS: We know this is a long video, and you may not have time to watch it all. So, we've pinned a post to the top of the comments section that includes timestamps for some key moments + popular topics from the steam.[/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p]Q. When does the alpha playtest start and end?[/p][p]The alpha begins on March 26 at 10am PT and ends on March 30 at 10am PT.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. What platforms can I play on?[/p][p]The alpha is only available for Windows PC on Steam.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. How can I sign up to playtest?[/p][p]Visit our Steam page, then click “Request Access” while logged in.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. Does signing up guarantee access?[/p][p]Since this first alpha playtest will be very small, not everyone who signs up will get in. We’re planning to host a much larger beta this summer, though, so there will be another opportunity to help us test the game before Early Access. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. How many players will be included in this playtest?[/p][p]This will depend on our testing needs, but we know that not everyone who signed up will be able to play.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. How are players selected?[/p][p]Selection is random and handled completely by Steam. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. When will playtesters be selected?[/p][p]TBD. Right now, we’re thinking sometime on March 25 (though that may change).[/p][p][/p][p]Q. How will I be notified if I'm selected for the playtest?[/p][p]If selected, the alpha client will be automatically added to your Steam Library. You’ll receive a Steam notification at the same time as well as an email from Steam to your registered email address. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. If I'm selected, will I be able to invite friends?[/p][p]Since the alpha will be very small, we won't be providing friend invites.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. If I'm selected, will I receive a playtest key?[/p][p]No, you won’t receive a key. Instead, the alpha client will be added to your library for you to install. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Will I be able to pre-download the playtest client?[/p][p]TBD. This ultimately depends on when we decide to select and notify playtesters. Stay tuned![/p][p][/p][p]Q. How large is the playtest client?[/p][p]It’s around 50GB, and an SSD is required.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. Will this playtest include the full game?[/p][p]While the alpha will include everything that’s currently ready for public testing, the game itself is still very much a work-in-progress. We look forward to adding more features, systems, and content as development continues. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Can I play the alpha offline?[/p][p]No. The Legend of California is a multiplayer game and requires an online connection to play.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. Does the alpha include a single-player mode?[/p][p]The Legend of California is played on online multiplayer servers. However, you can choose to play on those servers alone or form a company with up to three other players.[/p][p][/p][p]Q. What regions and languages are supported during the playtest?[/p][p]The alpha client is only localized into English, and the servers for the playtest will be located on the west coast of the United States. It’s possible players from outside the US may be randomly selected to participate, in which case their connection may not always be optimal. For Early Access launch, we’re planning to localize the game into more languages and have more servers in different regions. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. What are the PC specs for this playtest?[/p][p]You can find the current PC specs on our Steam page (just scroll all the way down). While the game may run on hardware that's below min spec, the performance will be poor. We're a small team with limited access to hardware, but we're committed to hitting 30 FPS on min spec and 60 FPS on recommended spec. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Will I be able to play with a controller?[/p][p]Controller support is available, but it’s very basic at the moment. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Will I receive any in-game rewards for participating?[/p][p]There aren’t any in-game rewards for playing the alpha. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Will any progress from this playtest carry over?[/p][p]Progress made during the alpha will not carry over. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Can I create and/or share content from the playtest?[/p][p]Absolutely. This isn’t a closed alpha (there’s no NDA), so you’re welcome to talk about your experiences and share videos, screenshots, etc. from the playtest. [/p][p][/p][p]Q. Where can I learn more about the game?[/p][p]The best place to learn more about the game and get the latest news is our official Kintsugiyama Discord server.
