New roguelike strategy RPG Astral Throne puts a fantasy twist on XCOM ironman

Things may be quiet on the XCOM 3 front, but we're not short of fantastic turn-based RPGs. From the mighty Baldur's Gate 3 to 2024's joyous Tactical Breach Wizards, we've been spoiled for choice. Just out on Steam, new roguelike strategy game Astral Throne might become the PC's answer to Fire Emblem, much as Wargroove did for Advance Wars. It offers full party customization with dozens of classes and hundreds of skills, those delicious weapon triangles, and even an intriguing narrative with multiple potential endings to discover.

Hotfix 1.0.2 - Small Fixes

Hello, another quick patch to hopefully address some more save issues.
This patch also fixes some missing text in the UI.

Hotfix 1.0.1 - Bug Fixes

Hello everyone, thank you for supporting Astral Throne!

And also thank you for reporting your bugs. We are really sorry some of you are experiencing corrupted save files. Since runs are long, it’s important that you are able to properly save and load in the middle of runs, so those issues are our #1 priority.

[h2]In this patch, we have:[/h2]
  • Fixed some instances of save files getting corrupted (but not all, probably)
  • Fixed lifesteal-based skills and status effects
  • Fixed ‘Second Time’s the Charm’ activating for enemies
  • Fixed the Caravan Menu from being stuck open in shops and encounters
  • Fixed undeployed Units not being placed at the bottom of the Units List
  • Fixed some small visual issues
  • Made some minor design adjustments


This (and future) patches should not corrupt your run save. If your run save is corrupted, please let us know. You can post on the forum, join our discord or email to us: [email protected]

  • Your report will be extra helpful if you include:
  • The version number (on the bottom right of the title screen)
  • A screenshot (or even a video recording if you can manage)
  • What was going on at the time (e.g. enemy phase, in the world map, etc)
  • What actions you were doing (e.g. hitting the end phase button, initiating combat, etc)


If you want to be really helpful, you could go into C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\Zero Sun Games\Astral Throne and attach the “Player.log” file to your message.
And if you want to be extra extra helpful, if you haven't started a new game yet, you could zip up that entire save folder and send it to us.

Astral Throne is out!

Hello everyone, we're just finishing up one last thing and we'll release the game as soon as we're done with that.
I'd like to speak for everyone on the team and say that we thank you all so much for supporting us through development, we couldn't have done it without you, really!
Though we are a small indie studio, there will probably be some bugs and jank here and there, please report anything you see and we'll try to fix it as soon as we can.

It would also really help us out if you could give the game a review some time soon, it would help us a lot on Steam's algorithm.
