October Newsletter: A Spooky Time Arrives

Greetings Rift Runners! In our last newsletter we chatted about the Past, Present, and Future of the game. We’re back here to discuss some of the future features that were teased, and talk about other things that weren’t previously discussed in the last newsletter!

(This is a work-in-progress mockup)

Neverending Nightmares

First and foremost, we’re excited to bring you Neverending Nightmares, a spooky alternate art pack arriving on the weekend of October 26th, just in time for Halloween! There’s five all new alternate arts for the following cards:

Here’s a quick rundown on the different Neverending Nightmare bundles. These will all be available for preorder starting this week. We've heard requests from players that it's too hard to collect full sets of platinum foils, so we made an item to purchase them directly. Additionally, since alt arts can't be opened in packs, we wanted to add a way to collect gold and gold foils of them as well.

Stay tuned this month for the reveals of the final art pieces - the images shown in the store and in this post are in-progress and will be subject to change.

Featured guest artist

Sezzadactyl is a talented digital artist, watercolorist, and streamer who we commissioned to produce the headline piece of Neverending Nightmares, Corrupted Celestial Dragon. She'll even be joining us for a special art-tastic Sanctuary Social on the 19th of October.

She's been streaming her creation of the piece over on her Twitch page, so be sure to check out those streams or VODs if you’re interested. You can find more of her excellent work here!

New card rendering

In this week's patch we’re changing a bit under the hood for how the game renders cards during gameplay.

The graphical performance of the game will be significantly improved, enabling the possibility to animate all cards on the field at the same time. Foil cards will now be a lot prettier as well, a long-awaited change we've shown off in the past.

Rest of the year and beyond

We’re excited to bring you Ranked mode and In-Game Chat very soon! Campaigns and additional balance patches are also in-development and will follow afterwards.

In Conclusion

We’re excited that we got a chance to deliver on some of the features we teased and we can’t wait to keep getting more done for you! We’ll see you next time in the next future newsletter when we have more features and updates to share with you.

As a reminder, all of this is made possible due to the continued support of players like you! Every card in Infinity Wars Classic is free and accessible for anyone to hop in and try, if you’ve enjoyed our game consider joining our Patreon if you haven’t already!

August Newsletter: What's New With Infinity Wars

Greetings Rift Runners! It’s been a while since we last had our last newsletter, so we here at Lightmare Studios wanted to provide you guys with another where we discuss the Past (couple of months), Present, and Future of Infinity Wars!

Past
April and June Card Sets
We’ve been kicking it making some cards with Promo Sets! Ever since our last Newsletter, we’ve done a couple of these sets releases with five cards in each of them to help keep the game fresh and exciting; with a lot of these cards finding a competitive home!
Big Balance Update
We also had a big balance update providing changes to over a hundred cards! We’ve been happy with the result of this big balance update since it gave these cards an extra lease on life, both in constructed and limited formats.

Present
An August Card Promo Set!
Back here in the present, we just had another Promo Set this past weekend with another five cards to shape up the meta! The stuff all of you have been cooking has been exciting to witness, things are already shaping up quite nicely for these newest additions to Infinity Wars!
Sanctuary Socials are still going strong!
Another thing which has been fun to continue providing all of you are these weekly Sanctuary Social events! We still have wonderful hosts each weekend from our fantastic community. Sanctuary Socials still remain the best time to play the game as that’s when the most players are online, as well as the best time to try the Mutator Mode!

Future
Ranked
While the present is nice, here are some things to get excited about regarding the future of Infinity Wars. Our top priority is bringing you Ranked mode and the chance to climb the ladder and prove yourself before 2024 ends!
Chat System
We’re also working on a chat system so you will be able to find and set up games even more efficiently in the client itself!
Campaigns
The return of single-player campaigns is on the horizon! We’re remaking and improving the story and mission design to improve replayability and to get players involved with the story of the Infinite Worlds.
Halloween Alt Art Pack
Ready for something spooky? We’re going to be giving you some alternate arts to coincide with Halloween! So be on the lookout for that soon!
Next set
In the near future we are setting out sights on the next full-size expansion, with 100 new cards that will be added to the game. We’re not quite ready to tease the contents of this set yet, but we wanted to let you know where our focus is going because we will be scaling back the releases of Promo Sets to focus on delivering this expansion to all of you. We’re aiming to launch the next major set some time in 2025.

Conclusion

We’ll catch you in game until the next newsletter Rift Runners! 2024 has been an exciting time in Infinity Wars and we hope you enjoy what we’ve been cooking up!

As a reminder, all of this is made possible due to the continued support of players like you! Every card in Infinity Wars Classic is free and accessible for anyone to hop in and try, if you’ve enjoyed our game consider joining our Patreon if you haven’t already!
Fixes:
• Fixed single-frame art for the following cards: Annihilate, Chain Lightning, Hubris of the Strong, Rubble Golem, Aura of Arrows, Avatar of Lingbao, Gravedredge Demon, Hungry Abomination, Tibat the Mad Monk, Give Him A Jetpack, Uncontrolled Rift, Flame Dawn Fanatic, Morningstar Accelerator, Swift Strikes, Timely Strike, Tullio the Duelist, EMP Grenade, Interdimensional Phase-Bot, Lucca Rebellion Leader, Overload, Recruit of Solace, Defiant Hunter, Passing Gift, Stampede, Titan of the New World
 • Prayer of the Dragon now only triggers once, instead of infinite times per turn. This is a return to its IW1 functionality, and mainly because it was too broken with Gao Han, The Stalwart.
 • Bloodbath no longer moves enemies. This should give it a little bit more counterplay, though it should still be a strong finisher.
 • The “Agent” keyword is now displayed on the type line.
 • Fixed the wrong art being used for Corrupted Celestial Dragon. The two-headed one is supposed to be Agent Coyle, Divinedemonic’s transformation.
 • Azael, the Torn can now target characters in the Command Zone, though the effect will only take place if the target becomes Deployed that turn, similar to other limited-targeting cards like Death Ray.
 • Fixed quickplay UI issue where the Rift Run toggle kept its previous state if unable to queue, which would leave the toggle on, while not being allowed to queue for that mode.
Hotfix 0.90.0b
• Fixed various card spritesheets which were incorrect.
 • Updated animations of Rosie, Meridius, Sabore
 • Genesis Researcher joins the crew of reducing costs in hand, deck, graveyard, and command (if you somehow get an artifact there).
 • Kev no longer causes 0-cost activations to cost 1.
 • Subject 1/MN-Y now draws randomly.
 • Fix the text on Junkyard’s choice cards not being updated to reflect their buffed costs.
 • Fix desync caused by fast-forwarding.
