Happy Holidays from the Ruins to Fortress Team!

To all our players celebrating Christmas, the holidays, or simply enjoying a festive season, we wish you warmth, joy, and wonderful moments. And to those who don’t celebrate, we hope you’re having a peaceful and cozy end to the year.

We want to take this moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us, shared valuable feedback, and purchased our DLC. Your involvement means the world to us and helps shape Ruins to Fortress into a better experience for all.

We also want to address an issue many of you have raised: cheaters. This has been a significant problem that we unfortunately underestimated. While we anticipated some cheating, we assumed it would be limited to gaining small advantages. Sadly, we’ve realized that many cheaters are primarily focused on ruining the experience for others. We understand how frustrating it is to invest hours into building a beautiful base, only to have it destroyed in seconds. The negative reviews we’ve received about this are entirely valid, and we hear you loud and clear. We are committed to tackling this issue.

As a result, our first development sprint in the new year will prioritize fixing this issue over introducing new features. That said, we still have exciting plans for early 2025:
- Character Customization: A character editor to let you fully personalize your player avatar, with even more customization options coming later.
- New PvE Content: Expect new maps, enemies, unique locations, and fresh challenges to enhance the PvE experience.

Upcoming Skinpack: Serpent's Dawn

Our seasonal Christmas event will wrap up in January and seamlessly transition into the launch of our first skin pack: Serpent's Dawn. This pack is designed to celebrate the Year of the Snake while highlighting and honoring various Asian cultures. It features a striking collection of skins inspired by Asian traditions and aesthetics, with a predominant focus on vibrant red and golden hues. Highlights include simple yet elegant outfits, a magnificent golden axe skin, and ornate decorations for your base that capture the essence of these rich cultural influences.

The Serpent's Dawn skin pack will only be available for purchase for three months and will not be in the store afterward. However, all items in the pack will be tradeable and marketable for you, meaning you can exchange or sell them with other players. Owners of the DLC who log in during the event period will receive one of the skins from the pack for free—so don’t miss out!

The revenue from the DLC and skin packs will help us ensure the continued development of Ruins to Fortress and allow us to dedicate more time to improving and expanding the game. Your support directly contributes to making Ruins to Fortress the best experience it can be.

Once again, thank you for being part of the Ruins to Fortress journey. Your support and passion make it all possible. For those eager to stay up-to-date, we are sharing more detailed milestone plans on our Discord server, where you’ll also find more regular updates on our progress. Join us there to be part of the journey and share your feedback!

We wish you all a happy holiday season and a fantastic start to the new year. Let’s make 2025 unforgettable together! 🎉

Warm regards,
The Ruins to Fortress Team

Launch Day Recap: A Big Thank You! Gratitude, Challenges, and Moving Forward!
Thank you for playing Ruins to Fortress in its early days!
We’re happy to see the game up and running for most player, our biggest fear was things not starting at all. We even peaked at around 400 players!

There were some initial issues with the free early adopter skin shirt not dropping, but that should be resolved now.

Mago and I had a great time playing on the official servers with the community at the start—about 25 players joined in. It was chaotic (in the best way)! We were impressed by how quickly everyone picked up the mechanics. We’re a small two-person indie dev/artist team, and playing with you or watching your streams has been incredibly valuable. It’s helped us identify bottlenecks in the game and even stress-test the servers.

That said, we’ve already received reports of cheating, especially on the official servers. Some high player count servers even crashed at one point! Addressing these issues is a priority, and we’ll be trying to scaling up our efforts while the game is in Early Access. Cheating is always a cat-and-mouse game, but we’re on it. Currently, if you’re hosting a game, you can set a password or use the console to kick and ban players as needed.

We’re thinking about the best strategies and anti-cheat measures to implement in the coming months.

We understand how frustrating it can be to enjoy the game for six hours, only to have a cheater destroy your base in an instant. If you have a saved game, you can reload it and set your server to password-protected to prevent this from happening again.

We’re reviewing all the improvement suggestions and bug reports you’ve shared. I’ll focus on addressing the most urgent issues first and schedule the rest for future updates.
