DEVELOPER JOURNAL #6 - Monsters Pt. 2 🧟

Welcome!
[p]Last time, we shared some very useful information about how to deal with the spiders of the I Hate This Place world. Now, we need to tackle something different - The Mutants. Mutants are mostly indoor creatures who hide in the underground facilities and tunnels. It’s unclear what caused the mutations and how long have they been in this form, but one thing is certain… They are hunting YOU![/p][p]
Centaurs are mostly blind and use noise to detect people walking by. It may seem easy to avoid them, but they are much smarter than you think. They have their own routines, they change their behaviour depending on your moves and they are fiercely defending their territory. Even if you start fleeing, it may even destroy parts of the environment just to try and catch you. Don’t get too close to them as they will for sure notice your presence and try to embrace you very strongly - and it’s not going to be cute when they crush you in this hug either…  [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Mobs are similar to centaurs as in they are also mostly blind and will use their hearing abilities to detect you. They like playing around with dead bodies which results in very disturbing noises echoing through corridors. They use their big hands to shield against enemy attack and bullets, so it’s better to try and strike from behind.

[/p][p]As with the centaur, getting near to a mob may result in a very crushing embrace or getting thrown across the room by their additional hand. [/p][p]The name of this mutant may be misleading, because Hands are more like mutated tentacles prowling the corridors than a literal hand. Nonetheless, you will feel their grab if they hear you running around the underground facilities. The more noise you make, the faster it will try and pull you to itself. You have to respond fast, because if your escape from the tentacles is unsuccessful, then you will be crushed[/p][p]Hands are mostly an environmental hazard than an enemy in the usual sense, but don’t underestimate it because of that. It may not change its position, but it’s just as deadly as the other mutants. [/p][p]That’s all for now. Next time, we will tackle some other monstrosities hunting Elena in I Hate This Place!  Let us know what you would like us to showcase in the future through those Developer Journals! We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments 🙂[/p][p][/p][h2]Can't wait?
