I Hate This Place News

[p]Monsters are one of the fundamental parts of this f**ked up world of I Hate This Place - like it or not. They are hunting Elena, trying to kill her and fiercely defend their territory from any outside interference. Knowledge about those monstrosities is vital for your survival in this world. For now, let’s tackle some of the encounterable arachnids, so if you have arachnophobia, don’t read on… Spiderling is the most basic enemy of the “Spider” variety. They can be found in eggs spread around some maps.When you get near the egg or shoot it the egg explodes and spiderlings come out.
They are weak and easy to defeat, but can overwhelm the player with sheer numbers. So don’t underestimate them![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]There are also Jumping Spiders - a bigger type of the Spider variety. Hiding in the environment pretending to be a rock, they are patiently waiting for an unsuspecting prey to walk through the tall bushes of the forest. [/p][p]
When you get near a Jumping Spider comes out of the ground. If you are near it simply bites, but if you are a little bit too close it will jump on and knock you down while biting into the flesh. You need to push them off you or… well, you are gone.
 [/p][p] Broodmother is the biggest form of the spider enemies. The place she occupies is foten is filled with spider eggs laid by her. When it comes to its nature, it’s very territorial and will impale you if you get too close, possibly tearing you in half if you have been already weakened. 
[/p][p]Moreover, it can use the web-tangled environment to its advantage by, for example, attaching vines to drag unsuspecting victims for a meal. You can free yourself from those leafy shackles by shooting them, but it’s not gonna be an easy fight. It can also summon reinforcements in the form of a spiderling horde faster than you, so you really have to be certain what you want before starting….[/p][p]

[p][/p][p]One of the gameplay mechanics of I Hate This Place that we haven’t delved into too much for these Dev Journals is the crafting system. It’s time to change that - today, we will be taking you through the design of the crafting system, why should you even care about crafting in the first place and how crafting can transform your base - the Ranch! [/p][p] To start with you need materials and a place to do your crafting. For the materials part, you will have to explore the world and find resources to use - later on, you will be able to create more of a passive resource gathering source, but that will have to do for now. Once you gather all the necessary ingredients, you need to craft your very own Workbench. This is where the ‘’magic’’ happens.

[/p][p]Initially, you won’t be able to create much, but once you progress in the game further, you will discover more and more Blueprints & Recipes to use on the Workbench. Just like Elena, you will have to gradually get better at crafting to actually survive in the f**ked-up world of I Hate This Place[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Alright, so you know how to build a workbench and craft a few basic items. But why should you even care? [/p][p]Well, crafting in I Hate This Place is fundamental to the way you explore the world and deal with monstrosities along the way. Elena is strong mentally, but in no way, shape, or form prepared for what this world has to offer, so she needs her tools to survive. In order to, for example, get better weapons or more ammunition, you will have to do it yourself. [/p][p]
More nutritious food? It doesn't come from cans. Electric Grenades & Molotovs? They don’t grow on trees, even in this world. Full Auto Rifle? Yeah, this and many more need to be crafted. Also, if you want to test out all the new weapons, there is a friendly Scarecrow who is just waiting for you to start blasting away.

Besides the creation of tools and weapons, the Workbench can be used to expand your base of operations - The Ranch - as well. In the beginning, it will be nothing more than a run-down shack with creaky floorboards and leaking roof. No facilities whatsoever. But, you can change that through the Building system as you progress in the game itself. Better ways of collecting resources, source of cleaner water and more food come with upgrading The Ranch to its fullest potential. [/p][p][/p][p]The Ranch can be expanded with such buildings as Water Pump, Garden, Scrapyard - all essential for surviving in the wilds. They won’t be cheap, fast or easy to build, but those improvements will make the base much more secure and sustainable in the long run. [/p][p]

The vision for the game stays the same, but this feedback highlighted a few tweaks or features that would really help the game feel just that much better. As we got closer and closer to release, we had to keep moving many of these additions to post-launch support. But we feel the game deserves to make a good first impression so we rethought things and together with Broken Mirror Games decided to move the date to January 2026. We know it’s last-minute, but we hope fans will understand.
