Pompeii: The Legacy News

Roman Cities Skylines rival Pompeii The Legacy twists history and it's here soon

As a fan of ancient history, videogames have long been my favorite way to explore long-dead worlds. Sailing the Aegean and running around Athens in Assassin's Creed Odyssey transported me back more than 2,000 years. Watching empires rise and fall in Civilization gave me an eye for conflict. Even The Forgotten City embraces its Roman heritage with open arms. Speaking of, city builder Pompeii: The Legacy is a historical game I'm incredibly excited for. Best of all, developer Siscia Games has finally revealed its Steam Early Access launch date, and it's here very soon.

Early Access Release September 16
Pompeii: The Legacy – Coming to Early Access on September 16!
[p]Hey everyone![/p][p]I’m incredibly excited to finally share the news — Pompeii: The Legacy will launch into Early Access on Steam on September 16, 2025!
As a solo developer, this moment means the world to me. Thank you all for following the journey so far, whether you played the demo, shared your feedback, or just wishlisted the game; every bit of support matters.[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Your Legacy, Forged in the Shadow of Vesuvius
[p]In Pompeii: The Legacy, you're not just building a city, you’re shaping the story of a Roman family across generations. Your decisions in politics, religion, trade, military affairs, and aesthetics shape not only the lives of your citizens, but the very fabric of Pompeii itself.
The game draws from real historical events, but leaves plenty of room for you to rewrite history in your own way.[/p][carousel][/carousel]

What to Expect in Early Access
[p]The Early Access version will include three game modes:[/p]
 • [p]A fully playable campaign with narrative quests and progression[/p]
 • [p]A sandbox mode for open-ended city building with challenges[/p]
 • [p]A creative mode for relaxed, penalty-free construction[/p]
[p]Throughout Early Access, I’ll be continuing development on new features, improving balance and visuals, and integrating your feedback into the game’s evolution.

While the core systems will be fully functional at launch, the military gameplay will initially be limited to its basic form. More advanced combat mechanics, including battles will be introduced gradually throughout Early Access.[/p][p]A detailed roadmap outlining planned updates and timelines will be published shortly before the EA release, so you'll have a clear view of what’s coming next.[/p]

And That’s Just the Beginning
[p]Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing several developer blogs right here on Steam covering key areas of the game:[/p]
 • [p]The production system and resource chains[/p]
 • [p]How trade works, both land and sea[/p]
 • [p]The military system (and how you can also pursue a peaceful route)[/p]
 • [p]UI and UX changes based on feedback[/p]
 • [p]And later on, support for modding, giving even more creative freedom to the community[/p]

[p]Once again, thank you for being here and helping bring Pompeii to life.
I truly hope you’ll enjoy what’s coming, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts when the Early Access version goes live!

I'm excited to share the official trailer for Pompeii: The Legacy, released in celebration of the upcoming Steam Next Fest!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
DEMO AVAILABLE NOW!
Yes, the Pompeii: The Legacy demo is already live! You can dive in today and start building your Roman legacy.
But that’s not all, a new and expanded version is coming on June 6, featuring sandbox mode and additional content.
Then, on June 9, the full Next Fest demo launches with even more polish and improvements!
What’s the Game About?
Pompeii: The Legacy is a single-player city builder set in ancient Rome, blending strategic management, generational storytelling, and rich historical atmosphere. It features a narrative campaign filled with quests, characters, political intrigue, and the ever-present shadow of Mount Vesuvius.

Inspired by Caesar III and enriched with systems familiar to fans of Anno 117, this game brings deep mechanics and immersive worldbuilding together, all handcrafted in a custom engine. No Unity, no Unreal. Just passion and code from a solo developer with 20+ years of experience.
What’s in the Trailer?
• Flythrough of Pompeii’s real ruins recreated in-game
 • Scenes of your early farms and wheat fields
 • Campaign moments with key characters like Sulla
 • Strategic management UI systems (Government, Trade, Research…)
 • Dynamic trade across the Mediterranean
 • A bustling, fully built Roman city in action

Thank you all for the amazing support, feedback, bug reports, and kind words. I’m reading everything and improving the game day by day.

I hope you enjoy the demo, and I can’t wait to show you even more during Next Fest!

Roman city builder Pompeii The Legacy now has a full demo, with upgrades coming

Pompeii: The Legacy is easily one of my most anticipated games of 2025. It combines my love for ancient history and city builders into something new, where you take control of the once-doomed Roman town of Pompeii and give it entirely new life. While Cities Skylines 2 and Civilization 7 keep being improved, Pompeii: The Legacy is shaping up to be a true contender to the strategy throne. With a temporary playtest earlier this year, you can finally dive into Pompeii's all-new demo, which developer Siscia Games has plans to keep improving.
