Prawn Suit Improvements
The Prawn Suit has more maneuverability than ever before with the addition of a horizontal boost, as well as improvements and refinement to existing Prawn Suit upgrade modules, such as the Torpedo Arm.
Bug Squashing
Thanks to all of your incredible feedback and bug reporting, the team has been hard at work squashing bugs for this latest release. With the Seaworthy update, you'll be able to play the most stable version of the game yet!
New Loading Bar
What's that waddling across the bottom of your screen? While you wait for Below Zero to load, a cute little Pengling will walk along the loading bar. It may stumble a few times, but don't worry, no Penglings were harmed during the loading process!
Steam Cloud
With this final Early Access update, we're bringing Steam Cloud support to Below Zero. You can utilize Steam Cloud to upload your saved games and download it to any computer with the same Steam account upon launching the game. So, if you need to move from computer-to-computer, taking your lived in saves with you has never been easier.
Note: If you have local save games on multiple computers, we recommend disabling Steam Cloud and manually merging your files before syncing.
Gamepad and Rumble Support
Below Zero now has added gamepad support. If you prefer to traverse the waters of 4546B using the gamepad of your choice, it should now provide a seamless experience. Rumble support is also available for Xbox controllers only.
1.0 Release Date
Oh, and we have just one more little announcement: Subnautica: Below Zero is coming to all platforms on May 14th! We want to extend our thanks to all Subnauts for your patience as we finalized the release date. We can't wait to bring the game to everyone playing on PC and console. And once again, we appreciate all of your support and feedback throughout the Early Access process.

Subnautica: Below Zero release date set for May

Subnautica's expansion-turned-sequel entered Early Access over two years ago, and we're finally closing in on the proper Subnautica: Below Zero release date. Developer Unknown Worlds has confirmed that Below Zero will launch for PC and consoles in May, bringing a lengthy development journey to a close.

Subnautica: Below Zero goes 1.0 on Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 14. It will maintain its current price point of $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99, set earlier this year. The game will hit consoles - including the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch (whew) - on the same day.

The most recent major update for Below Zero in Early Access landed back in October, letting players dive (pun only sort of intended) into the nearly-complete story. The final release will let you finish things out all the way to the end. While 1.0 does technically mean the game is finished, the devs have, of course, promised additional patches and bug fixes after launch.

Subnautica devs want to make a full sequel - and they'll "rethink" multiplayer

Subnautica: Below Zero started life as a DLC expansion, and while it's blossomed into a standalone project, it's not quite a full sequel. It seems that developer Unknown Worlds on to, well, unknown worlds after Below Zero wraps up its stay in Early Access, but the devs make it sound like a third Subnautica is basically inevitable. And that might be the point at which we finally see official multiplayer support.

"We knew right away that we weren't doing multiplayer with Below Zero," art director Cory Strader tells us in an interview. "It was initially going to be an expansion pack, it was a much shorter timeline. So we knew that was totally out of the scope." Strader says that VR support was a similar casualty of the more focused approach in Below Zero - but, of course, there are mods for both of those things.

But in an official capacity, Strader says "I would imagine we would be rethinking those things, at least the multiplayer side of things, if we do future a Subnautica game."

How Subnautica's community helped create an underwater world dying to be explored

Steam Early Access has changed the way games are launched: gone are the years of waiting for a game, only seeing gameplay snippets in a string of trailers. With Early Access you can sometimes be playing a game as soon as it is announced. It has brought a new thrill, the thrill of a journey and a collaboration between community and developer.

Subnautica is perhaps one of the best examples of this new way of developing games. It is an underwater survival game, where you play as an unfortunate soul who has crash landed on an lonely sci-fi planet. With few prompts, it is up to you to decide how you will eat, drink, and escape - all while carefully managing your oxygen supply. It launches from Early Access today and, in the words of design director Charlie Cleveland, "there's not much to ship."
