We’re excited to announce that Meridiem will publish Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure 🦕 digitally on Steam on November 24, 2025! 🚀Developed by The Dude Games, in Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure take on the role of Cacops, a charming amphibian dinosaur who embarks on a journey to recover his stolen egg, facing off against ninjas, unique enemies, and colossal bosses.

Set in a pixelated world full of references to the 80s and 90s, Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure pays homage to classics such as Wonder Boy, Alex Kidd, and Contra. This game captures the essence of the golden age of 2D platformers, but with updated graphics and gameplay for modern audiences.

With stages and characters inspired by iconic pop culture references, Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure aims to be the ultimate 2D platforming experience, seamlessly blending classic nostalgia with a fresh sense of innovation.

Hey there, lovers of the Jurassic era, retro games and good old 2D platforming adventures!
I’m Javi, or as most of you know me, The Dude Games, and today I want to share a bit of the story and evolution of Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure.

When I started, I knew very little about Cacops. My only inspiration was something ancient: Cacops aspidephorus, a prehistoric amphibian with the look of a tough guy and a slow stride. A forgotten fossil. A shadow among saurians.


But the game needed more. It needed soul. Movement. A silhouette that would stick in your memory.
That’s how the pixel version of Cacops was born — inspired by chibi-style characters from the 80s, especially the heroes from Bubble Bobble. The idea was clear: I wanted an adorable hero, but with the potential to pack a punch.


At first, Cacops just wore a red scarf. But once I got him moving through backgrounds full of vegetation, he got lost. Literally. Green on green doesn’t work — especially when your character is jumping, dodging, swimming, and shooting water.


So the red shirt appeared. A visual and functional decision… and also a tribute:
📺 to Magnum P.I. and his iconic 80s shirt.
🎮 to Chip 'n Dale on NES, who also wore similar shirts to stand out.
🌊 and of course, to keep that surfer vibe alive!


Each sketch was another step in shaping his personality. I wanted Cacops to stand out, even in tiny sprites. For his silhouette to be instantly recognizable. For every frame to breathe charisma.
And above all — for you to want to play as him, to follow him, and to help him recover his stolen egg from those wicked ninjas.

Dinopunk: The Cacops Adventure isn’t just a tribute to classic pixel art.
It’s a love letter to an era when characters didn’t need thousands of polygons to stay with you forever.

And Cacops is here to stay.
