🎄 Merry Christmas, Erannorth Adventurers! 🎄

Hi folks!

As the holiday season unfolds, I wish you all joy, warmth, and epic adventures! I’ll be taking a short vacation to recharge, but rest assured, work on the 3rd major update for Erannorth Renaissance will resume shortly after.

In the meantime, enjoy today’s patch! It lays the groundwork for things to come and addresses a few pesky bugs. You can read more details below:
Patch Notes - 17/12/24 # 0.6.02
Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue with Teleport Move actions not working when they had an AP cost.
  • Fixed an issue where replacing unstackable effects would partially replace the old effect, causing duplicate icons to appear in the initiative order portrait and actor details panel.
  • Fixed an issue with pathfinding allowing movement through blocking tiles when the movement range was increased due to passive bonuses.
  • Tags on non-companion/non-random NPCs weren’t properly saved. This didn’t have any adverse effects previously, as they weren’t used before, but they are now.
  • Fixed an issue where Resist and Resistance effects displayed a blank icon when used with the Caster or Adjacent keywords.
  • Fixed a potential exception issue on the world map when a hostile band was in range but unable to move to a tile near the player.

Misc improvements

  • Actors now follow the shortest tile-based path instead of moving in a straight line, making movement feel smoother.
  • Move actions now support the "Caster" keyword.
  • Composite keywords like Dispel, Resist, Resistance, etc., now also support the "Caster" keyword.
  • In Character Creation: Added arrows to cycle through the Species and Heritage options more quickly.
  • In the Perks Editor: Added a filtering field.
  • In Actions Editor: Filters now support range and cooldown.
  • Added the "Caster" keyword to "Self" actions to make it more apparent that even their negative effects apply to the caster.
  • Adjusted the balance of several actions. (Ongoing process)
  • Summon Actions now scale with the caster's level for bonus HP, up to 2 Ă— their Rank.
  • Tweaked various codex entries for species and heritage lore.

New Content

  • New Passive Effect, Mourner’s Dirge +X: When an ally drops to 0 health, you immediately restore X HP.
  • New Character Creation Options:

    • Added the Oscultari Species, along with its Perks, Actions, and Codex entry.
    • Added the option to pick Galdorak as your species during character creation.
    • Added new Galdorak portraits.
    • Added the Aelvren Heritage, along with its Perks, Actions, and Codex entry.
    • Added the Outlander Heritage.
    • Added unique portraits for the Oscultari characters.

    • Adjacent Hostiles Dark Damage#0#4* deals Dark Damage to all hostile characters adjacent to the targeted tile.

  • Added a few new scenes and chat options with Olivia.
  • World Map Expansion: Implemented Ponthill and Ashwick locations. Nothing much to do there other than shopping.

Hotfix - 09/12/24 # 0.5.92

Hi folks,

Today’s hotfix addresses a blocker issue that could occur while exploring the Valetport Sewers, along with a few other fixes and tweaks I was working on at the time. The extra MBs in the update are due to rebuilding the combat map resources to include six new encounter maps. These maps will trigger based on the tile you’re exploring, adding more variety to your adventures.

Have fun, and let me know if you come across any other issues!
Patch Notes - 09/12/24 # 0.5.92
• Fixed a blocker issue that could occur while exploring Valetport Sewers.
  • Fixed a visual glitch in the inventory and barter UIs that could happen when dragging was initiated while holding both mouse buttons simultaneously.
  • Fixed a warp hole in the map that allowed crossing into unimplemented areas.
  • Fixed a visual glitch that could occur when triggering encounters on water tiles.
  • The Lua extension "Recruit" now ensures there are no more than six active companions at once. Recruiting additional allies will automatically send any excess companions to your reserves.
  • Added six new random encounter maps for Forest, Woodlands, Plains, Hills/Highlands, Marsh, and Arid tiles.

Hotfix - 06/12/24 # 0.5.91

Hi folks,

This hotfix resolves a random issue that could occasionally prevent you from targeting enemies, even when they were legal targets. It also addresses a problem with movement highlighting that sometimes blocked access to legal tiles.

While I’ve done my best to thoroughly test the updated methods, these changes affect a critical part of the combat system. If you encounter any issues or notice anything unusual, please let me know.
Patch Notes - 06/12/24 # 0.5.91
• Fixed an issue in the Sunken Temple where a certain branch wasn’t properly concluding the quest.
  • Fixed an issue with action targeting, where legal targets were sometimes not highlighted.
  • Fixed an issue with movement highlighting where legal paths were sometimes not shown.
  • Fixed a potential issue when changing Dreya’s portrait.
  • Increased the net worth of NPC actors per level.
    • Enemy NPCs will now have better equipment, making them more challenging to fight but also offering better rewards.
    • Friendly (non-merchant) NPCs will have better equipment available for trade.

Valetport Update is now Live

Hi folks,

I’m excited to announce that the second major update, Valetport, is now live on the public branch!

While I had planned to add more camp interactions and random events, I had to draw the line somewhere—before you all grow old waiting for this patch! After all, what’s the point of having the game in Early Access if I work et perpetuum in the shadows? My main concern with releasing this patch was ensuring as much save compatibility as possible between this update and both the previous and future ones.

So the good news is that you can still resume from an older save:

How to resume an existing save?

The following steps aren't needed if you start a new game in this build, but only if you are continuing with a character from previous builds:

  • You can resume from an older save to follow up on the Agent of Darkness by visiting Harronwell Manor.
  • You can resume from an older save to follow up on Destinies by visiting the Merry Pixie inn in Heygrove.

Then start the arrival activity in Valetport's Harbor Gate.

That said, starting a new game is highly recommended due to structural changes in tiles, companions, and story events to avoid any lingering bugs from the previous version.

Since its early access debut, Erannorth Renaissance has grown a lot. With two of the planned nine major updates complete, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what’s been accomplished—and what’s next.

The game now features over 220,000 words of interactive dialogue (equal to two novels), 1,000+ items and actions, and multiple story paths with satisfying endings. While some characters’ journeys are complete, one story ends on a cliffhanger, setting the stage for the next update.

Additionally, there are several quality-of-life improvements that I hope you’ll enjoy.

There is now an easy way to see if your character has unspent points.

Or if your allies have unspent points without needing to check their overview and perks every 10 minutes.

The new filter in the Save/Load UI lets you manage multiple characters a bit more easily. However, these aren’t profiles, so save names still need to be unique.

And more, which you can read in the patch notes below.

The next content update will wrap up the remaining story branch and introduce two new settlements—Ashwick and Ponthill. I’ll also focus on improving what’s already in the game by adding more roleplaying options, optional fights, balancing actions, and deepening character relationships.

Llanford and Heygrove will receive some need love as well, with new sidequests, random events, and richer NPC interactions. Since I won’t have to worry about disrupting the main story thread or breaking your saves, I’m hopeful I can pack in even more content for you to enjoy.

The patch notes below may contain light spoilers, so let's hide them behind the updated Roadmap!

Hi folks,

The latest build, 0.5.89, is live on the beta branch and ready for testing! Anyone who wants to try it before the official release is welcome! This is our second major update (out of the nine planned) and includes a significant content expansion, continuing our main storyline, locations, recruitable companions, and plenty of new mechanics to explore.

Beta Access

The beta is available on the Steam beta branch, no password needed!

  • Right-click on 'Erannorth Renaissance' in your Steam Library.
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Go to the 'Betas' tab.
  • In the dropdown menu, choose the 'beta' branch.
  • Steam will then download the beta version. Launch the game, and you're ready to explore!

The full update is planned to launch for everyone in early December. With your help, I hope we can catch up and fix any major issues before then.

Starting a new game is highly recommended due to structural changes in tiles, companions, and story events to avoid any lingering bugs from the previous version. But you can still resume from an older save:

How to resume an existing save?

  • You can resume from an older save to follow up on the Agent of Darkness by visiting Harronwell Manor.
  • You can resume from an older save to follow up on Destinies by visiting the Merry Pixie inn in Heygrove.

What is the currently the status of the game?

The game has come a long way since its early access release, and now feels like a good time to take stock of where things stand and where they’re heading. Two of the planned nine major content updates are complete, and while significant progress has been made, there’s still plenty of work ahead.

Right now, the game features over 220,000 words—just counting the conversations. That’s the length of two hefty novels. On top of that, there are more than 1,000 items and actions helping to shape a detailed, immersive world. All the major story paths are wrapped up, with multiple endings that could easily close the book if this were just a traditional choose-your-own-adventure.

But Erannorth Renaissance is more than that.

The sandbox aspect sets this apart. The goal isn’t just to finish our story; it’s to use your choices in this story to shape the world, then step into that world and live with the consequences. And experience even more stories.

So, what’s next? There’s still work to do. The completed sections need more roleplaying options to give you greater freedom to shape your journey and your character.

Balancing remains an ongoing challenge. Some systems feel unpolished and need fine-tuning to create a more fair and engaging experience. The main story is progressing well, but many characters could use more depth. Relationships—whether friendships, rivalries, or romances—still feel underdeveloped.

Sidequests and sandbox elements also need attention. Once you’re on the main story’s path—or finish it—there’s not much else to do. Expanding these areas would give you more reasons to explore and engage beyond the main plot. Exploration itself could also use a boost. Every tile type should bring its own unique challenges and events, making the map feel more dynamic and exciting.

Interactions with random NPCs feel a bit one-dimensional right now. Adding meaningful exchanges, especially in romance and rivalry, would bring more life and variety to these encounters.

This update marks both a milestone and a step forward. I’m happy of how much has been accomplished so far, but I also see how much more can be done. With every update, the vision becomes clearer. Step by step, we’re getting closer to making this the truly immersive experience it’s meant to be.

The patch notes below may contain light spoilers.
