We’re thrilled to welcome you to the 2nd devlog from Animal Shelter 2! Today, we’d like to talk about another feature which was frequently mentioned and asked for and it’s the ☀️ day&night 🌑 cycle. As we’ve already explained, due to the limitations of the game’s code, we weren’t able to implement this feature before but with the Animal Shelter 2 that’s not an issue anymore.


[h3]Today, we’ll explain this system in more detail and give you examples of its impact on other in-game mechanics! 🔥 We’ve got a lot to talk about so let’s take a look, shall we?[/h3]

[h3]👱 Employees[/h3]
As we’ve already announced, the game will offer you a possibility to hire workers helping you to take care of daily activities at your shelter. Their help is available only during the day because when the shift is over, they’re heading home to have some rest and prepare for the following day! 👍

[h3]➕ Curing Animals[/h3]
A change also occurs in the process of tending to sick animals. With the introduction of day and night cycle the time animals need to get well will be slightly longer than in the Animal Shelter 1. On top of that, treatments will require giving medicine every few hours at fixed intervals, once a day etc. in order to help your animals get better. 🐶

[h3]🚶 Adoption[/h3]
This brings us to one more significant change- even if you decide to stay at the shelter for night because of the treatment of a particular animal, before it gets well you’ll not be able to arrange any adoption meetings for this animal before it gets well.

[h3]🐱 Animals[/h3]
Finally, the Animals. Your cute pupils will also not stay indifferent to the passage of time. Because of the fact that during the night the only personnel allowed to stay at the shelter is the owner, the animals will require to be taken care of in the morning. Fill in their food and water bowls, clean up the enclosures and give them some love and affection to shake off the lonely night. Don’t worry, the employees will also come in the morning filled with energy to help you get the place tidied up. 🤩


As you can see, the day&night cycle will affect many different aspects of the game. Starting with the looks of the environment, through the employees' availability to even the mood of the animals at the shelter.

We’re extremely happy to see you in the first monthly devlog from Animal Shelter 2 🐶. Once again, we’d like to thank you- this game is in development for and because of you all. The overwhelming amount of feedback and ideas made us take a step forward and implement a new, better ground where we’ll be able to implement them! 💪 We hope that you’ll follow each of our devlogs closely and let us know your opinions on the topics we present. We’ll surely pay close attention to your responses to make sure the game is up to all your expectations!

This month, we’ve prepared three topics, two of which are completely new mechanics! 🤩

[h3]☀️ New day & night cycle 🌑[/h3]

The alteration of this system, as well as an option to be able to pick up stray animals off the streets were frequently mentioned on multiple occasions by our community. 💬 Unfortunately, we weren’t able to introduce these changes in the Animal Shelter 1 due to the old code but with the new game it’s not an issue anymore!🔥 We’ve already finished implementing a fully operational, new day and night cycle which you’ll be able to enjoy in the upcoming playtest 👍.


[h3]2d in-game map 🗺️[/h3]

You’ve read it right! We’ve introduced a 2d map which is already partially functional. It’s going to be further developed but you’ll be able to use some of its features in the playtest. 😀 We’ve been wondering if you’ve got any idea which new feature yet to be revealed is the introduction of minimap connected to? Let us know in the comments! 😼


[h3]New, improved animal models and animations of animals and the petting system 🐈 [/h3]

The animals were given much, much love and have undergone a complete metamorphosis 🔥! In Animal Shelter 2 we’ve focused on perfecting the cats and dogs which were given some suggestions to alter their looks in Animal Shelter 1.

The animals are various, have fluffier fur and their physique fully differs in comparison to each other! 🐕 We’re also giving some love to the animations of their behavior and interactions with both other animals and people! 😍 The petting mechanic has also undergone a massive upgrade and now it should be able to satisfy even the most demanding animals (and animal fans).
