Sending animals to and from the shelter

Hello, Animal Shelter community! 👋
It’s time for another Animal Shelter 2 devlog and today we're thrilled to talk about some exciting upgrades on how animals move to and from the shelter in Animal Shelter 2.

Compared to Animal Shelter 1, where these interactions were more limited, we've significantly expanded the ways animals can find new homes, receive care, and interact with volunteers. Let's dive into the details!

Animal Shelter 1 🔍
In the original Animal Shelter 1, the options for handling animals outside of the shelter were fairly simple:

-Sending a car to pick up an animal.

-Sending a car to deliver an animal to its new home.

-Later, the addition of a park where players could take animals for walks.
New Features in Animal Shelter 2 📝
We've taken everything from Animal Shelter 1 and greatly expanded the system in Animal Shelter 2. Now, players have more control and variety over how animals enter and leave the shelter:

-Animals still arrive via car, but now players can choose the pickup location from a map!

-Emergency rescues: Players can respond to intervention cases, rescuing animals directly.

-Adopters now visit the shelter in person instead of just receiving an animal by car.

-Medical care outside the shelter: Animals can be sent for medical examinations and treatments by selecting locations on the map.

-Pet returns: If an adoption was a poor match, there’s a chance the animal might be returned based on compatibility percentages.

-In Animal Shelter 2 there are additional people joining the stage- Volunteers! They can:
-Take animals on walks.
-Bring animals to their homes for a day of care.

-Open House Days: A brand-new feature where multiple potential adopters visit the shelter at once, increasing the chance of finding a perfect match.

-Individuals can bring in stray or abandoned animals, requesting the shelter to take them in.
A More Engaging Experience ❤️
From day-one, players can now walk animals in the park (just like in the first game, but now also in co-op mode!). These updates make Animal Shelter 2 feel more dynamic, realistic, and engaging, giving players more ways to interact with and care for their furry friends.
We can’t wait for you to experience all these improvements. Stay tuned for more devlogs and as always, don’t forget to let us know your thoughts on this topic! 🐶🐱
The Process of Treating Animals

Hello Animal Lovers! 👋

Today we’d like to talk about something which was a hot topic for quite some time. Some of you were excited to hear more about it while others were a bit reserved. Today we’ll give you more details about 🌡️ illnesses and treatments in Animal Shelter 2.

In our game, animals arriving at the shelter may exhibit symptoms indicative of an ongoing illness. Players will need to keep a close eye on the health of their furry residents, as health deterioration can be noticed in various ways—such as a decreasing health bar, lethargic behavior, or detailed notes in the animal’s medical chart.
📝 Diagnosing Illnesses
The medical chart will serve as the player’s primary tool for identifying an animal’s condition. Suggested tests will be listed on the chart, guiding the player toward a diagnosis.

Some of these tests can be conducted directly at the shelter, such as collecting stool or blood samples. However, for more advanced diagnostics—like X-rays or ultrasounds—the player will need to send the animal to a specialized facility.

Once the tests are completed, the medical chart will update with a confirmed diagnosis and details about the required treatment plan.
😷 Types of Illnesses
In Animal Shelter 2 we can distinguish 2 main categories of diseases you and your animals will face:
-Fully Curable Illnesses: Examples include common colds or pneumonia. Treating these conditions will involve administering specific medications or combinations of drugs at proper intervals. Successful adherence to the treatment schedule will lead to full recovery.

-Chronic Conditions: Chronic illnesses, such as persistent lung disease, cannot be completely cured. However, proper medication can ensure the animal remains in excellent condition. Players will need to provide ongoing treatment, sometimes requiring daily administration or even overnight stays in the shelter. The animal’s well-being will depend on consistent care.
⚠️ Challenges in Treatment
The illnesses come with some additional issues players will have to deal with both during the treatment and the adoption process.
-Medication Accuracy: giving incorrect medications will hinder progress, leaving the animal weak and potentially worsening their condition.
-Chronic Condition Perks: animals with chronic conditions may have additional traits that make them harder to adopt. Some conditions, like blindness, don’t require treatment but will still affect the animal’s quality of life.
-Specialist Equipment: certain illnesses may require equipment unavailable in the shelter. Players will need to arrange for the animal to receive care at an external facility.
☣️ Infectious Diseases
In some cases, illnesses may be contagious. To prevent outbreaks within the shelter, players can use isolation units to separate sick animals from their healthy companions. Strategic use of these facilities will be essential to maintaining the overall health of the shelter population.
💭 Final Thoughts
Our aim with the animal treatment system is to create an engaging, realistic gameplay experience that challenges players to manage resources, time, and care effectively. Whether nursing a puppy back to health or providing lifelong support to a chronically ill cat, players will form meaningful bonds with their virtual animals while honing their skills as shelter managers.
What do you think of this approach? We’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
That’s it for today! We can’t wait to hear from you. If you’d like to meet other players interested in our game, look for a partner to play multiplayer or stay informed about the upcoming posts join our discord and add the game to your wishlist! 👇
