Customization and Upgrade Systems

Hello Animal Shelter Fans! šŸ‘‹
As promised we’re back with another topic we’d like to introduce in more details- the shelter upgrade and customization systems ā¬†ļøMost of these features are novelties in comparison to the Animal Shelter 1, that’s why we’re even more excited to hear your opinions about these mechanics! 🤩 Make sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!
Buuuut, before we get to the devlog, the premiere of the free Prologue for Animal Shelter 2 will take place soon! So don't miss the release date and you can add it to your Wishlist now!šŸ‘‡
Shelter levels šŸ“
There are five levels in total for all the rooms and the shelter, the first which is essentially a ā€œlevel 0ā€ is the neglected building you’re clearing to reach level 2- an operational shelter. An important thing to remember is that in order to be able to raise the level of your shelter, you’ll first have to raise the level of all the available rooms.

You might be wondering ā€œHey, can I just upgrade the rooms as I please?ā€ Yes- you can put your effort into upgrading your rooms in any order you want but there's an additional factor- ⭐shelter reputation. Once you reach a certain level of reputation you’ll meet the criteria to be able to upgrade your rooms to the next level.

But what exactly changes once you raise the level of the room and shelter? There are various possibilities. Let’s start with the shelter level, shall we? Each level of the shelter grants you some visual upgrades such as the looks of your shelter, adjacent terrain, lawns etc. They also grant you new decorations or alter the already existing ones. What's most exciting though is that these upgrades may also come with new features for your rooms! šŸ˜ One example is gaining additional cars in your garage.

It’s similar in case of room upgrades. While all the upgrades grant you nicer looks of the rooms, some of the upgrades increase the size of a room or unlock additional space which was previously taken, giving you more possibilities. šŸ‘
We’ve prepared some cool graphics to show you how your shelter's looks can change if you put some effort into it!

Painting šŸ–Œļø
One of the features available to make your shelter fit your vision is to alter the looks of the surfaces in it. You can paint:
    1. Walls
    2. Ceiling
    3. Floors
We’d like to help those of you who don’t want to spend too much time on decorating your shelters to have nicely looking buildings. That’s why we’ve prepared some presets which will be at your disposal. ā¤ļøā€

For others who would like to put more effort into making the shelter more customized, we’ve got you covered. We’re providing you with the possibility to mix the colors and materials. We’ve also prepared more fancy materials adding textures or some shape to them!
Furniture šŸŖ‘
We’ve introduced a reworked system of placing furniture in the first person camera. It’s similar to the one used in case of smaller items but adjusted so that it doesn’t compromise your view. šŸ‘€ (the held furniture turns into a blueprint in your hand). To allow more precision a grid also appears which optionally can be snapped to while placing the objects. This way you’ll always be able to place your furniture perfectly where you want it.
Items šŸ“š
We’ve added all sorts of small items to allow you to make your shelter even more personal. We’re positive that the addition of books, flowers, posters and other decorations will make each of your shelters truly unique and exciting places. Keep in mind that some of the decorations are dedicated to certain areas like walls. šŸ™‚
That brings us to a question ā“What other options for customization would you like to have in the gameā“
Thank you for reading the entire devlog. We’re happy that you’re interested in our game’s development. If you don’t want to miss out on any future devlog please consider joining our discord and add the game to your Wishlist. šŸ‘‡
