This May we've released The Witcher 3 REDkit, an end-to-end solution which allows users to create new experiences and modify all aspects of The Witcher 3. Now it's time to show us what you can do with it for a chance to win amazing prizes sponsored by our partners. Including:
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, sponsored by NVIDIA;
  • Gaming headsets, mice and keyboards, sponsored by Razer;
  • The Witcher team jerseys and playing cards, sponsored by Dyenamik;
  • The Witcher varsity jackets, sponsored by Insert Coin.

Ready to get started?

We invite you to craft a completely new questline made of 2-3 interconnected quests! Here’s your chance to tell your own tale and forge an adventure of your own making — whatever that might be! For each submission, we’ll be looking for creativity, originality, and technical excellence to shine through.

If the main task isn't up your alley or if you need a warmup, you can also take part in smaller Modding Challenges along the way! A themed challenge will be unveiled every couple of weeks to give you an opportunity to showcase your individual skills. There will be 3 in total, with the first one appearing soon!

In order to submit your mod, you will need to upload it on Nexus Mods at https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3 and provide a link in the submission form available on the official contest website:
https://thewitcher.ly/REDkitContest
You will also find there a handy set of Frequently Asked Questions!

You can participate in as many tasks as you want. However, please keep in mind that:
  • in the main category you can participate individually or in teams of up to 5 people (you can only be a member of one team);
  • entries in the main category can be submitted until October 14, 2024 3:59 PM CEST;
  • in challenges you need to participate individually, but you can take part in as many challenges as you wish (you can only submit one mod to every challenge);
  • entries in challenges need to be submitted within specific deadlines, as communicated in respective challenge announcements;
  • in order to be eligible in the contest, mods can't have been published prior to April 16th, 2024 1PM CEST;
  • submitted mods can be updated until the submission phase deadline.

Modding Challenges will be judged by CD PROJEKT RED and Yigsoft team members. For the Main Category, a shortlist of submissions will be made by CD PROJEKT RED and Yigsoft judges, while the final result will be decided by a community vote.

If you want to know more, the contest's complete set of rules and regulations can be found here.

Patch 2

The second patch for The Witcher 3 REDkit is now available. Here's the list of changes for this update:

  • [Experimental] Added an option to start the editor in dark mode (View → Settings → Editor Configuration → Editor → startInDarkMode).
  • REDkit is now shipped with pre-generated thumbnails. Users can update them for checked-out and added assets.
  • You can now use a .jpg image as a thumbnail when publishing a mod.
  • Added an option to disable the automatic reopening of resource editors that were open when the editor was last closed.
  • Added an option in Scene Editor to generate all misssing lipsync and voiceover. It will use Windows' text to speech feature for voiceover, lipsync generation is possible if the audio is generated and the Editor knows the location of the Blender Plugin.
  • Added the languages that were missing after cooking strings.
  • Added scrollbars for the "Entry Attributes" section in the Color tab in the Entity Editor.
  • Added support for additional virtual directories. REDkit can now attach additional directories besides the uncook depot (read-only). Essentially, your mod project can now depend on another mod.
  • Texture Viewer and Material Editor window layouts will now be saved.
  • 3D gizmo handling will now interact correctly with the cursor.
  • Added keyboard shortcuts for manipulating the gizmo. Shortcuts can be customized in "View" → "Customize editor shortcuts...".
  • Set defaultPlayerTemplate defaultCameraTemplate when creating a new game resource definition.
  • Hid some popups (e.g. New Game+ popup) that still appeared when playing from a .redgame definition.
  • Using the "Tools" → "Generate missing unique script tags" option in Journal Editor will now properly fill out the missing unique script tag fields of new journal entries.
  • Fixed issues with playback buttons in the Entity Editor.
  • Editing multi-property values in Scene Editor by text will now be disabled instead of resulting in a crash.
  • Implemented a material .xml metadata exporter/importer for Apex resources (CApexClothResource and CApexDestructionResource).
  • Having the word "scripts" in the project name won't break script compilation anymore.
  • Fixed the scaling of the "By Tag" editor window.
  • Fixed description tooltips not always showing after hovering over a property field.
  • Fixed an issue where recent projects could contain duplicates under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where when trying to save .w2mi files, the user was asked to "overwrite the existing file", although there was no file with the same name.
  • Various fixes for the Journal Editor: removed non-functional elements, improved color coding, fixed checking-out and reverting.
  • Added some fixes for importing scenes.
  • Fixed some UI glitches in the Asset Browser.
  • Several UI fixes for the PathLib Tool.
  • Various stability improvements and crash fixes.
