Super Algebrawl now available in Chinese! Happy Chinese Lunar New Year!!



Hi punks!

Once more thank you all so much for your support so far!

We noticed that after English-speaking countries, the top country with the most people playing Super Algebrawl was China, so we thought it would be nice to provide a proper localization!

Huge thanks to Sound of Mystery who translated the game and then went the extra mile to ensure everything looked right in-game. Check out his channel on BiliBili for Chinese coverage of indie games! We even suspect that his streaming Super Algebrawl is what brought it attention in China in the first place!

We don't have plans to translate Super Algebrawl into other languages yet, but do tell us if you think we should!

Patch notes for v1.2b: Bugfixes!

Hi punks!

There were a few leftover bugs after the update from last week so we set back to work and fixed them! We also increased the number cap which was mistakenly set too low for one of the achievements to trigger, sorry about that. It is much higher now, so it shouldn't be an issue anymore!

Here's the full changelog:
  • [Lang] Fixed a shameful spelling error in the story.
  • [Balance] Increased the number cap to 999,999,999.
  • [Bugfix] Fixed spell duplication bug with rewinding after merging a soldier with a thief enemy.
  • [Bugfix] Can now select all skills on a unit even when they have 5 or more.
  • [Bugfix] Fixed some of the monsters' skill descriptions being mixed up.
  • [Bugfix] Fixed stealth skill being avail;able only once on units resulting of Breed and Break.
  • [Bugfix] Regular blobs can no longer transform into bugged King Blobs.
  • [Bugfix] Fixed worms not giving back soldier if rewinding too fast.

v1.2 Update: New game mode and more!



Hi punks!

Thank you all so much for your support on Super Algebrawl! We didn't expect this game to be so popular but it looks like people do like maths after all!

We've had some bug reports but there were also a few design points we were somewhat unhappy with in the game, so we decided to not just do a simple patch, but actually rather a sort of small content update that we think improves on the original design you've played so far.

One of the bigget changes: a new helper has been added to replace the extra Multi spell: the Advisor! The Advisor is a unit that remained suspiciously faithful to the king after his bankruptcy. They will help the king by giving him Add and Multi spells as well as two other new units with 10 and 50 HP... in exchange for some of the Boar King's HP. The idea is to give you some new options for those desperate moments where the gameover seems inevitable.

Another important addition: the puzzle mode! This is a new game mode which only uses Add and Multi spells but where every level has a solution, i.e. each level can always be won somehow. You can choose how many levels you want in your puzzle session and whether or not you want multiplications to be involved. We believe this game mode should prove ideal for kids who are still getting their grip on additions and multiplications, and for adults who are looking for actual puzzles without the game's roguelike element.

Apart from all this, two more new units have been added to the classic story mode and then it's all balance changes and bugfixes!

  • [New] The king's advisor will let you trade the king's life for spells or mercenaries.
  • [New] New Soldiers: Grim, Daren
  • [New] New puzzle mode: tweak parameters to design your own puzzle. Ideal for kids or time attack.
  • [UI] There's now a "x2" hint for double spell cards.
  • [Balance] New Bodyguard effect: Get a shield if they're the last soldier.
  • [Balance] Ritual now gives you a random spell on death (instead of sacrifice) and it can't be "Add".
  • [Balance] Chop Skill does not require sacrifice anymore.
  • [Balance] Abomination HP are now 250-500. (previously 500-800)
  • [Balance] Flowers' HP are now 5-10 (previously 3-6)
  • [Balance] Throne effect change: Revealing extra cards doesn't cost life
  • [Balance] Gravedigger is now only affected by monster deaths
  • [Bugfix] Fireball can't be used on two targets anymore
  • [Bugfix] Stick spell now merges soldiers without removing skills
  • [Bugfix] Merging soldiers does not remove stealth stacks anymore
  • [Bugfix] Monsters don't keep abilities from merge after rewind
  • [Bugfix] Corrupted soldiers resulting from merge don't benefit from zeal or anthem anymore
  • [Bugfix] Thief skill can no longer steal already depleted spells
  • [Bugfix] Blobs with 1hp won't divide anymore
  • [Bugfix] Killing monsters with spells like Fball or Shock won't corrupt the last soldier damaging them
  • [Bugfix] Worms can now digest each others.
  • [Bugfix] multiclick on a single card on levelup isn't freezing the game anymore.

Take the Countdown numbers round, replace the number cards with cute woodland creatures and the mathematical operations with spells, and consider the target number a boss you must defeat, and you've basically got
Super Algebrawl. This tactical mathematical RPG is the latest from Punkcake Délicieux, the small team behind the roguelikelike 'chess with a gun' Shotgun King. Super Algebrawl started life as a experiment by one of the devs to help teach his daughter maths, though frankly I think it'll teach her maths is cruel. This game and I have very different relationships with numbers.

Patch notes for v1.1

Hi punks!

Thank you so much for your support on our first release of the year! We hope you're enjoying the game!

There were a few minor bugs and errors left in the game, so we set back to work for this small patch. The game should now be a little more balanced, and also you should be able to get the achievements! (sorry about that)

Here's the full changelog:

  • Divide now requires at least one non-monster
  • Added a "give up" button in the ingame menu
  • Added numbers shortcuts for selecting spells
  • Ingame Ritual hint now specifies which spell is added
  • [Bugfix] Using bodyguard with no target doesn't freeze the game anymore
  • [Bugfix] Ritual won't give "attack" spell anymore
  • [Bugfix] Stealth now works anytime but can't reduce hp under 1
  • [Bugfix] Steam achievements will now properly trigger
