Hold your horses, 13th century Mongolian courier sim The Legend of Khiimori's early access release is delayed

Time to phone Genghis Khan. Tell him the news. There's gonna be a bit more waiting before you can become 13th century Mongolia's truest Yam courier rider/horse befriender. Following its latest Steam Next Fest demo, The Legend of Khiimori's early access release has been pushed back to March next year.

I know, throw down your spurs like they're Yosemite Sam's hat. There's neigh way developers Aesir Interactive and NightinGames have done this to you. Well, they have, but they say they've got the game's best interests at heart.

I played a lot of Steam Next Fest demos last week. It's got to the point where I think I like playing demos more than I do full games. It's something about the tantalizing potential, the fact I can dip into five different games in a single evening and receive a meaningful conclusion (of sorts) in each. While I was balancing my Next Fest coverage with a burgeoning Ball x Pit obsession, one game stood out to me more than any other: Legend of Khiimori.

Early Access Delay Announcement

[p]Dear Couriers,

Today we’re announcing a delay to the Early Access release of The Legend of Khiimori until March 3rd, 2026.

The wonderful reception during Steam Next Fest has led to us sitting down with our publisher and together we have decided to take more time to create a more feature and content-rich experience! While this does mean that you all have to wait a little longer to get your hands on Khiimori, it also means we’ll be able to make sure you get a better game when we do release into Early Access.

We would like to thank everyone for participating in Steam Next Fest, trying out the demo and leaving us with valuable feedback. While it’s clear a huge number of people are enjoying the demo, we believe that it is the right decision to delay to March. This will give us an even stronger foundation to build from when we enter Early Access and then begin the collaborative development of Khiimori with all of you!

With that being said, we’re pleased to announce that as a result of the delay, the demo will not go offline as originally planned on October 20th, but will stay online until November 30th, 2025.

We will spend the time to work on the following areas as our primary focus and then also try to get in as much as we can until the start of Early Access, everything that does not get addressed until then we will deal with during Early Access. Please have in mind that this is not a complete list and we will adapt to use the time as wisely as possible to create the best possible game experience for you:

The Legend of Khiimori Demo is Part of Steam Next Fest!

We’re beyond excited to announce that The Legend of Khiimori is taking part in Steam Next Fest, and you can, for the first time, try out the game with the release of our demo, which will be available until the end of Steam Next Fest.

The 90-minute early access demo offers a glimpse of the rich gameplay systems and majestic world players will get to fully experience when The Legend of Khiimori launches in Early Access on November 4th!

In the demo available during Steam Next Fest you can:
• Begin their journey by delivering goods and messages across a vast, beautiful open world to build their prestige and reputation
• Ride, care for, and manage their horse’s health, stamina, and mood to ensure their horse stays strong and reliable
• Craft medicines, purchase upgrades, and trade or breed horses with unique traits
• Defend themselves against wild predators using archery and survival skills

Set in 13th century Mongolia, The Legend of Khiimori invites players to step into the role of a brave courier rider navigating a vast, untamed landscape on an unforgettable adventure. Players will need to breed and train horses with specialized abilities, plan their routes strategically across diverse environments, and master the challenges of the wilderness to complete their quests.
