Being A Jarl

Hello shield maidens and Vikings!

Last time we spoke to you, we introduced you to Freydis, the jarl of the harbor town of Kaldaborg in the fictitious Steineyjar Islands.

But what does a jarl actually do?
In a nutshell, a jarl is a leader, whose job is governing a territory, maintaining order, and ensuring the prosperity and safety of the people.

The main responsibility of the jarl is governing. Think of it as a mixture of mayor and judge. The jarl enforces the common laws, settles disputes, and presides over local assemblies in order to maintain harmony among the citizens, which is crucial for stability and the general welfare of all. By taking care of the people and their needs, the jarl can secure their loyalty. Needs like safety and prosperity have a high priority, as you can imagine. Which in return means, the jarl has to make sure that the village is protected - also so trade can commence, which usually is also controlled by the jarl.



And like we mentioned the last time already, although this role was mainly portrayed by male Vikings in sagas, there were many inspiring and powerful women in Viking history, which we'd like to pay tribute to with Freydis in our game as a prime example.

But women in Viking society held a variety of roles, from managing the household to religious practices, from being involved in trade and craftsmanship to being a fierce warrior as a shield maiden. All of which you will be able to see and experience once you enter Steineyjar Islands.



And you as a player can not only choose between a male or female character to start your journey in the world of Vikings Dynasty and eventually even strive to become a jarl, thus taking care of your villagers’ needs or try to defend them by actively searching out bandit camps and destroying them. You will learn the tools of the trade, start crafting your own tools, weapons, and even build ships and take them to see to explore the archipelago.
