April DevLog: Characters

Hello everyone! It's time for the monthly DevLog again.

In Chaos Front, there are two types of characters: 'Captain' and 'Pilot'. They have different abilities and attributes, and can respectively drive ships and arms. To help you understand their differences better, let's take a look at two examples.

Captain Helen, for instance, has four attributes: Shoot, Maneuver, Command, and Skill Point. When she controls a ship, her 'Shoot' attribute increases the hit rate of the ship's shooting weapons. 'Maneuver', on the other hand, helps the ship avoid enemy fire and increases the damage of the ram weapon if equipped. 'Command' can increase the damage of friendly arms or reduce the damage they take within her command range. Higher SP means Helen can use more and stronger skills during the battle. Every time she levels up, these attributes will increase.

The blue entries below 'Merchant Lv1' and 'Commander Lv1' represent Helen's talents when she reaches Captain Level 2. They respectively allow her to obtain more mission rewards and increase her command range. With every level, Helen will either gain a new talent or add one level to an existing talent. The maximum talent level is 5.

'Reinforce' is Helen's Skill which can be used on the battlefield by consuming SP to recover the HP of friendly units. Each role has three skills, and the remaining two are unlocked as the role levels up.

Now let's talk about Pilot Pyrrhus. He cannot command a spaceship, but he can fight in a mecha or other arms. Pyrrhus also has four attributes: Shoot, Melee, Reaction, and SP. The 'Shoot' and 'SP' attributes are the same as Helen's. The 'Melee' attribute increases the damage of Melee weapons, while 'Reaction' increases the dodge rate and parry rate of his unit.

His talents, 'Shielder Lv1', increase the shield's durability, and 'Fencer Lv1' makes it easier to trigger a Preemptive strike when using Melee weapons. After using the skill "Effort", he can increase the EXP gained in battle.

By the way, some players have asked how many characters there are in Chaos Front. We can confirm that there are over 120 characters in total, but the characters that each Corps can collect are only a portion of them.

That's all for today. I will be back next month.

March DevLog: Big Map

Hello everyone,

In this month's development log, I'd like to show you the big map of Chaos Front. The map includes seventeen planetary worlds and many important places within the Centersea Sector. Your mercenary corps can move around the map on your flagship, and time advances as you move on. However, time won't pass if you stay in one place.

When you reach a planetary world, you can take missions, and buy ships and arms, and some planets have gladiatorial arenas and army HQs. When you take a mission, an exclamation point animation will appear at the place where the mission is triggered. Moving the mouse over the place will show you how many days it will take to move to it.

Periodically, the warring armies will launch battles for the planets. You can see the intense animation of the two fleets on the map. Move your mercenary corps to the warring planets, you can choose which side to join and participate in the battle.

That's all for today. I will be back next month.

Best regards,

CHAOS FRONT Announced!

Hello, my friends!

After a year of preparation (which has been delayed for too long), I can finally share with you the information about my new work CHAOS FRONT.

Perhaps some players know that in the initial planning, I had planned to place the game stage on a planet and its orbit, let mecha engage in battles on the land, ocean, ice field, desert, and space, create cut-screen combat animations, and replace mecha components. However, after several months of trying, I found it difficult for me to solve the problem of artistic expression. When a mecha needs to fly in the air, walk on the ground, and swim in the sea, with one side on the ground and the other in the sky or ocean, there should be differences in the shooting and moving show of both sides. This means that a massive amount of artwork is needed to ensure visual correction.

As an indie developer, my ability lies in creating interesting gameplay, rather than making tons of art as a big company. I can only painfully abandon this plan.

The new design direction of CHAOS FRONT is more interesting than the initial plan. We are no longer playing the role of a faction like in Chaos Galaxy. Instead, we play a mercenary corps in a war-torn galaxy, set in the dark era after the downfall of the Solar Union 1000 years ago before Chaos Galaxy.

In this game, our mercenary corps can travel on spaceships in a space sector that has nearly twenty planets, recruiting various characters, including captains, pilots, and even psychics. We can purchase ships, mecha, artillery, fighters, and even titans. Although it is not possible to freely change weapons for units as originally envisioned, most units can be made a modification that includes changes in their appearance and abilities.

We can complete mercenary missions to earn gold and reputation and join a faction to take part in battles. With the strengthening of your mercenary corps and changes in the battlefront, there will ultimately be multiple different game endings.

Most importantly, the new game will feature meticulously crafted cutscreen combat animations!

Now let's talk about the development schedule. I hope to take October 2024 as a milestone, when we will be able to see game videos and play the game demo. The release date is in the spring of 2025, and I will try my best to complete it as early as possible.

Hope you can add this game to your wishlist, and I will publish development logs every month. Let's keep in touch!
