Vladimir and the Town

Vladimir once helped five villagers — later, he earned all their trust.

On a winter’s day in the border town, a hulking figure emerged through the thick snow haze. With his intimidating appearance and silent demeanor, the neighbors initially mistook Vladimir for a fugitive thug, avoiding him at every turn.

Yet beneath that massive frame lay a heart of gold. He paid no mind to the rumors, quietly aiding the townsfolk — whether gathering fruit, hauling heavy loads, or once even smashing through ice to rescue a child who’d fallen into a frozen river, unconscious. The giant’s silent kindness slowly won over the town, and soon, Vladimir became a beloved local legend.

But peace was short-lived. A new mayor arrived — greedy and tyrannical. Oppression festered until despair gripped the town, driving many to consider abandoning their homes.

Then, for the first time, the townspeople witnessed Vladimir’s wrath.

He marched to the town hall, tore the iron gates barepawed, and shrugged off the guards’ bullets as he tore apart every last tormentor. By nightfall, the building was engulfed in flames. With a shattering of glass and a final scream, the mayor plummeted from the rooftop, his burning body a pyre for the sins he’d committed against the herd.

Vladimir stepped out of the inferno and sat for a long time on the steps. The town was silent as ever — only the crackle of burning timber and the hiss of snowmelt on charred wood filled the air.

The Tough Cop

Since Ryan, Blackmire’s notorious troublemaker, was officially recruited, the streets have fallen eerily quiet. The city center has become the most orderly district in town — with one glaring exception: the local police station.

For Blackmire’s police force, what began as a strategic alliance soon backfired. Ryan, a street-savvy kingpin who once commanded the underworld, proved too effective at keeping petty criminals in line. But his influence blurred the boundaries between law enforcement and organized crime. While violent offenses vanished, gray market operations flourished under police tolerance. Worse, Ryan’s presence factionalized the department itself. Clearly, co-opting a local warlord was a stopgap measure — not a solution for lasting peace.

On the eve of war, the police seized their chance to offload this double-edged asset. Ryan, now their "most capable" enforcer, was drafted into military service — a convenient way for the precinct to rid itself of the problem.

Ryan saw through their scheme, but he had grander ambitions than ruling back-alley fiefdoms. The battlefield offered a path to real power: combat honors would grant him influence, and his talents guaranteed rapid advancement. Before deployment, he secured alliances across Blackmire, laying groundwork for his return. When the war ended, he’d scrub his record clean, enter politics, and crown himself the city’s true sovereign.

Marquez’s Research Obsession

Marquez’s exceptional research skills earned her the title of Lead Researcher by her seventh project. Driven by a desire to surpass her predecessors, her obsession with progress grew unchecked—eventually leading her to cut corners by conducting illegal experiments in abandoned labs.

Lianhua repeatedly urged Marquez to stop, but with the efficiency of reagent development skyrocketing, higher-ups turned a blind eye. This only deepened the rift between the best professor and her best student.

Not long after, Marquez’s brilliance secured her a role in the institute’s most classified project. Within months, she became its core leader, spearheading the development of a performance-enhancing serum designed to boost soldiers’ physical capabilities on the battlefield. Yet whenever questioned about side effects, Marquez dodged the subject.

Then came the raid.

When law enforcement stormed the lab, the only stable sample vanished. With no other choice, Marquez injected herself with the remaining formula…
