Update 1.1.0: Into the Embalance

Hey Lightbearers!

First of all: Thank you! 💝
Not just for playing Into the Emberlands, but for giving us your feedback. So far, almost all reviews for Into the Emberlands have been positive, and it’s wonderful to know that so many of you are enjoying the game!
Your feedback is incredibly valuable for us and has helped us identify issues, fix bugs, and ultimately prepare this patch!

While our initial plan was to focus on a content-update after the Early Access release, you made it clear to us that there are more pressing issues that involve quality of life (inventory management) and balancing improvements. These changes are at the heart of this update.

BUT we also wanted to give you something back and enhance your experience with Into the Emberlands, so we added a few lightbearer skins that are available to all of you (after unlocking them for the first time)!

Here’s what’s new in the update

Inventory Management 💼

Many of you were a bit unsatisfied with the inventory management, mainly the inability to get rid of tools that are not currently needed, and suggested improvements.
  • Dropping materials from the inventory now always drops the full stack instead of just one
    • The ember blossom was adjusted. The amount of ember you’d previously get for dropping it will now be awarded for burning it
  • Tools can now be burnt in the ember lantern for ember. Previously they could only be removed by actually using them. Now, there’s a (debatably 👀) better use for them!

  • We also added some little changes to the tutorial to introduce players to the new tool burn mechanic

Balancing & scaling ⚖️

There were some significant divides in player experiences, as some players found it challenging to accumulate enough max ember to progress, while others were running around with hundreds of max ember, barely facing difficulties. These changes aim to make the experience more streamlined: easier for some, while restoring the suspense for others.
  • Max ember is now capped at 180, the coin girdle at 50, the crystal bag at 8

  • Capacity upgrades (to purses and lantern) become gradually more expensive (later upgrades are more expensive)

  • Increased the cost of all quests across the board (this should make it a little harder to snowball to a point where quests don’t offer any challenge anymore)

  • On getting lost, you will only lose 40% of your capacity upgrades (you’ll never get below the minimum) and 1 inventory slot

New player characters 💅

Although this is a QoL-focused update, we wanted to add something exciting for you to discover. There will be new lightbearers for you to unlock! We won’t spoil the unlock conditions here, but if you're curious, join us on our Discord server for more details. 😉
  • Added 4 new player characters unlockable for everyone

  • Each of the characters will allow you to start a run with a specific item already in your inventory, so choose your preferred one for a little head start!

  • Those of you who have already met the required conditions will have automatically unlocked the characters

Additional Fixes 🔨
  • Fixed a bug that would break the game when quitting during a dialogue
  • The opening cinematic now plays again when starting a new save
  • Save/load is now 100% reliable (let’s say 99,9% 👀)
  • The default startup language is now your system language
  • Optimized pathfinding logic
  • Fixed the Ember Charm not having any effect outside of the Meadow biome
  • Fixed the pop-up UI when the end of Early Access content is reached
  • Added a disclaimer that the game is not saved during tutorial
  • Fixed a bug where Miasma sound would keep playing after respawning
  • Fixed a bug where fixing one building would cross off multiple in the quest log

Thank you all for being so supportive and for helping us in making Into the Emberlands the best game it can be. ❤️✨
Keep the feedback coming and we’ll do our best to resolve issues quickly and add interesting content to the game!

Hotfix (ver. 1.0.6.5)

Hey Lightbearers!

We've just uploaded a hotfix for Into the Emberlands to address the infinite loading screen issues (e.g., when teleporting to the village or loading a save) that some of you faced in the last days. Please let us know if you continue to encounter this problem! 🎮

We also want to let you know that we are working on a Qol and balancing update that is inspired by community feedback and adresses some of your concerns (like difficult inventory management and the punishing gameplay cycle). Expect it late next week, so stay tuned! ✨

Patch 1.0.6 is here!

Hey Lightbearers!

We have another patch for you, fixing some previous issues and adding some new sounds. Also, the background music now changes slightly depending on how many Lost Ones are following you – go ahead and give it a try!

  • Added changes in the background music: it now changes depending on how many Lost Ones follow the player
  • Added new ambience music for the Enderlands biome
  • Added new distinct sound effects for some of the interactable objects/NPCs in Petalogistan and Enderlands biomes (e.g. Cuts And Chisels, Extractiorium, Distillery, Screwed Workshop and some more)

  • Fixed crystal bag capacity increase description
  • Fixed stuttering in tutorial
  • Fixed being stuck after returning to the main menu while being in a tutorial dialogue and starting that save again
  • Fixed Early Access end screen (texts and buttons functionality)
  • Fixed an issue where on rare occasions an ember or a troll would spawn instead of a building in the village
  • Changed the thrift store loot
  • Fixed Crafty description
  • Fixed check for item if backpack is not full (error prompted by the mask achievement)
  • Fixed key placeable data (previously couldn’t be put down on certain biomes)
  • Fixed the tracking of time played (only for new savegames)
  • Fixed crystals and coins not saving properly when quitting
  • Intro cinematic now always plays on a new save game instead of just playing once
  • Reverted a change that made savegames from before the full release incompatible (potential fix to corrupted savegames)
  • Miasmask now actually upgrades on village level 11
  • Star icons removed from the Mask and Lux+ pick-ups
  • Loot fix for Lux+ pickup

Apart from these fixes and small additions, we are working on an update that addresses some of your feedback and concerns. Many of you contacted us about not being able to store tools or put them down, and about the roguelike-aspects needing some more balancing, so we are working on finding a solution for these.

Until then, keep your feedback coming (ideally over on our Discord server)! We’re interested in hearing about your experiences with Into the Emberlands, as well as your ideas for the game!

Patch 1.0.5 is here!

Hey Lightbearers!

Thank you all for not just playing Into the Emberlands right after release (you’re the best!) but also giving us a ton of feedback and pointing out issues you’ve encountered.

We’re actively working on resolving bugs as quickly as we can, and have tackled the following ones in this patch:
  • Fixed achievements not triggering
    • Heavy breathing
    • To new horizons
    • Prep time!
    • How many Knacks do you need to…

(Sadly, the achievements will not trigger retroactively, meaning you will have to reach them again to unlock them. We are sorry for that and hope for your understanding)
  • Adjusted the buttons in the game over character selection screen as their previous layout caused an issue with the savegame
  • Removed a pointless trade with the Village Shaman (previously gave you an ember crystal for an ember crystal)
  • Fixed an issue where items couldn't be placed on the ground in specific biomes
  • Fixed items changing or becoming invisible after placing them on the ground
  • Fixed a bug where players could use the metro station in the village to travel to the previous worlds metro station position after a game over.
  • Butter no longer spawns in the village (don’t ask.)
  • Music now changes based on the amount of Lost Ones following the player
  • Everything in the village is now saved and restored reliably

The best way to let us know what you think of the game and to inform us about bugs is to join our Discord server – if you’re not there yet, we’d love to have you!
