Battle Suit Aces review

This has to be the most cheerful game about aliens destroying the universe that I’ve ever played. Often making Lego Star Wars look like Andor, Battle Suit Aces is a hugely heartfelt sci-fi visual novel. The fact it’s a great deckbuilder too is just showing off...

Ending 2025 in Style

[p]Hey Aces,[/p][p]As 2025 fades into the glow of Zephyr's massive rear engines, it's time for another update![/p][p][/p][p]First of all, Battle Suit Aces' review counts keep going up (keeping it VERY positive!) and both of our Steam games are discounted for the Winter Sale! Get your reviews in and encourage your friends to SUIT UP![/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]
A new coat of paint
[p]When you next wander the cheery halls of the Zephyr, you may notice some glow ups.[/p][p][/p][p]Swing by the Faction Dossier to take a peek at the Typhoons' Battle Suits. Wangwei, Lanying, Gan, Kuan, and Fu are even more prepared to stylishly take from the rich.[/p][p][/p][p]Over in the Hangar, you might not recognize your favorite Command Cards. They all gained some sparkle and echo their referenced characters. [/p][p][/p][p]And finally, on the Bridge, the map received an update from the Union cartographers. The nebulas are a feast for your eyes.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Notable Fixes
• [p]Trying to move a card while your team's turn starts will no longer cause attacks to trigger.[/p]
 • [p]Deploy and Move ability triggers no longer fail to trigger after an ally is Ejected.[/p]
 • [p]Mousewheel scrollspeeds are increased and scrolling is smoother (especially on Windows).[/p]
[p][/p]
The year ahead
[p]2026 is already filling up with things for us to work on. Battle Suit Aces is our first priority - we want to keep expanding on what you love while also finding ways to get more players to give it a shot. We've got some ideas but also love hearing from you in the Trinket Community Discord server![/p][p][/p][p]As always, thank you to everyone who has played Battle Suit Aces, Battle Chef Brigade, or even Color Sheep! Keep spreading the word and have a wonderful end of the year![/p][p][/p][p]Love,[/p][p]TrinketTom and everyone at Trinket Studios[/p][p][/p]

 • [p]And…releasing today…[/p]
[p][/p]
Deck Management
[p]This was by far the biggest complaint about Battle Suit Aces: your ever-growing roster of pilots and their mechs made it hard to craft the perfect strike team of pilots, drones, and command cards. Starting today, you now get to choose which cards in each category join you in battle. You can bring 10 pilots, 10 drones, and 5 command cards. Now, you'll be able to pull off tighter card combos while being a bit more careful about which cards to use to tank inbound damage. Let us know what you think in the discussion forums or on our Discord! https://discord.com/invite/qpPUwHcMBk[/p][p][/p]
Reviews
[p][/p][p]Please keep adding your positive reviews here on Steam. They help us out immensely and encourage us to keep improving Battle Suit Aces! If you're looking for help with what to say, check out these wonderfully positive reviews from The Escapist, Loot Level Chill, and Game Grin:[/p][p]Escapist https://www.escapistmagazine.com/reviews/battle-suit-aces/[/p]
"The battles are colorful, explosive, and easy to parse, and the UI is slick without getting in the way. The card designs are also gorgeous."
[p]
[/p][p]Loot Level Chill https://lootlevelchill.com/reviews/battle-suit-aces-review/[/p]
"Game of the Year contender that mashes up card combat, army building and a whole lot of heart."
[p]
[/p][p]Game Grin https://www.gamegrin.com/reviews/battle-suit-aces-review/[/p]
"Battle Suit Aces is a must-have for any fan of the mecha genre or card games, and if you’re in both camps, you’re in for a treat!"
[p]

[/p]
What's next
[p]For starters, a way to play with the massive number of cards we made in a fresh, replayable way sure would be neat. We'll have to set our rogueish minds to the problem…[/p][p][/p][p]The art team is going to continue polishing many of the thousands of illustrations in the game, especially those that shipped in a rougher state than we had hoped. As a small team self-publishing a massive game to Steam and two consoles, we ran into some turbulence.[/p][p][/p][p]We've got some other things under construction as well, but we'll keep them under a giant tarp in the Hangar for a bit longer.[/p][p][/p]
As always, thank you to everyone who has played Battle Suit Aces! Please keep spreading the word!
[p]-Trinket Tom[/p][p]

100 Very Positive Reviews!

[p]Hi Aces![/p][p]Thank you to all who have played Battle Suit Aces and written reviews, discussion posts, and feedback all over the Internet. Reviews keep the Battle Suits energized, so we're incredibly grateful to you.[/p][p][/p][p]We've updated BSA a few times already to squash some nasty little bugs, improve some UI flows, fix typos, and get Steam Deck verified! The latest wave of improvements improve the Skip button and fix multi-playthrough achievements.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
FAQ
[p]For those of you who haven't been hanging out in the Steam Discussions, here's a quick update![/p][p][/p]
How come I can't edit my deck?
[p]Great question! We're testing some changes to this. We launched without letting players remove cards because we wanted the focus to be on gaining characters instead of purposefully avoiding them for mechanical reasons. Instead, we hoped that Suit Mods would afford the flexibility to modify your deck as desired and that the Redraw button (and a few card abilities) would enable enough Draw manipulation to build your perfect Battle Line. We also worried that players would get bored if the optimal strategy was to always play the same cards every battle.[/p][p][/p][p]Of course, most deckbuilders let you remove cards, especially roguelite deckbuilders, which are incredibly popular. So, stay tuned as we playtest a few variants and then push an update live to let Captain Heathcliff make the tough decision to bench pilots![/p][p][/p]
I completed the game 3 times and I want to play more!
[p]Even though that's not a question, we hear you and we're on it! There have been a lot of good suggestions in the Steam Discussions, so please let us know there or in the comments here what extra modes excite you and how they should work, like a NewGame+, Roguelite Mode, or perhaps a Starball Tournament. We've got some things cooking already but love to hear your ideas![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Can I speedrun Battle Suit Aces?
[p]You sure can! Come on by our Discord server. There have been some Easy runs under an hour and a half, but there's a lot of room for improvement. And the new Skip Button upgrades will shave off a lot of time all by themselves. And if there's enough interest, it would be neat to add a full Speedrun Mode with splits...[/p][p][/p]
How do I do more Crew Missions?
[p]These special missions require you to complete each Patchworks character's Ambition. Those are shown when viewing a character's card in the Hangar (since they also unlock a mod slot) and when viewing a Crew Mission map node. Each Crew Mission map node lets you do one Crew Mission, but you can fly around them if you haven't completed the Ambitions you're hoping to. I highly recommend Belmont's mission, especially if you're a fan of Battle Chef Brigade or ProZD. For the achievement hunters out there, please note that you cannot do all the Crew and Faction Missions in a single playthrough.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
A glimpse into the past
[p]I'll leave you with this screenshot of an early version of Battle Suit Aces - from back when it was called Mech Trek! You can see a couple characters you'll recognize alongside chibi versions of the Battle Suits. In some of the prototypes, each card was represented in space with a chibi sprite, which would fire and be hit by the actual projectiles. It ended up feeling very confusing to have two representations and we certainly didn't need more art assets to draw![/p][p][/p][p]Stay tuned for more updates to Battle Suit Aces and thanks again to everyone who's already joined Patchworks' cause![/p][p][/p][p]-TrinketTom[/p]
