v3.0.6 - Quick Options Data Fix

[p]Heyyo, CraftedCircuitry here! Just a quick update as I reworked the Options file of the game’s saving system.[/p][p]New Options Data Format[/p][p][/p][p]Previously, it used Godot’s ConfigFile but will now use a JSON-based text file just like the game’s main data save. This was done as I only recently knew that Godot’s ConfigFile has a security vulnerability of allowing code injection.[/p][p]It is highly recommended that you upgrade to v3.0.6 as soon as possible. I’ll see if I will have the time to update the v0.7 demo.[/p][p]While problems with this will only arise if you download the Options file from others and don’t bother to check if it isn’t suspicious, I’d rather put the game on the safer side as I don’t really want this to bite me in the back later down the line. It would have been nice if I learnt of this earlier so I would just go for the JSON option from the start instead.[/p][p]The game will still read the .cfg file on first startup of v3.0.6 but will never read any .cfg files again on any next startup. This is still needed so it can read previous Options data from previous versions and the demo and translate them to the new format. If you do not previously have a file, then the game will automatically create and use the new .txt Options file.[/p][p]Deep Dark Wrath available on Cloud Gaming Services[/p][p][/p][p]For a more positive light, if you’ve purchased the game on Steam, you can also play it on various Cloud Gaming services like GeForce Now! The screenshot I used was from a week ago, but now that I search it up again I don't see it anymore.[/p][p]That’s about it for today. I never thought I needed to do a security update but here we are. This has been CraftedCircuitry signing off for now. Do check my Tumblr and YouTube for more updates on my other projects![/p]

v3.0.5 - Frost Flower Hotfixing

[p]Heyyo adventurers! Just a quick update on Deep Dark Wrath to do some bug fixing for things I forgot to thoroughly check through while doing my testing and added some things I felt weren’t needed but I wanted to add to make it things a little bit better.[/p][p]Added[/p]
  • [p]A Reward for completing the post-endgame option of Frozen Areas[/p]
    • [p]This gives a little bit more reason to try the new post-endgame option after completing the main Frozen Areas task[/p]
  • [p]A few more Wrath-only enemies in the Frozen Ruins[/p]
    • [p]Some parts of this area felt a little bare in enemies so I decided to add more during the Wrath[/p]
[p]Updated[/p]
  • [p]Made it a bit better to see certain lightly colored sprites like the HP, low HP indicator around the player, the Enlightened Flames, and the Waning Frost indicator, especially with the White Snow in the Frozen Areas[/p]
[p]Fixed[/p]
  • [p]Cyan Forge not working properly and not following Player’s UI Focus[/p]
  • [p]Tempest Awakening always showing up in the Cyan Forge[/p]
  • [p]Potential to mess up cutscenes if Player dies during it[/p]
  • [p][2025-07-06] Reward Indicator in the Pause Menu did not follow centering[/p]
[p]That’s about it for today. Sorry for the inconvenience of an update so quickly, but I hope you’re enjoying the new additions to Deep Dark Wrath. This has been CraftedCircuitry, signing off for now![/p]

v3.0.4 - Frost Flower Major Expansion

Heyyo adventurers, CraftedCircuitry here. I’m finally showcasing and releasing the biggest update to Deep Dark Wrath, v3.0.4 Frost Flower! New areas, new mechanics, stronger enemies, even stronger Enchanted Cards, and more so let’s dive right in!

  • A Frosty New Continuation to the Lore
  • 3 New Frozen Areas
  • New Frozen Enemies
  • New Enchanted Cards
  • The Flame Dash
  • New Frozen Mechanics
  • New Sword Skins and Armor Trims
  • New Post-Frozen Areas Endgame
  • Native Linux / SteamOS Port
  • Linux / SteamOS Port Moving of Save Data from Steam’s Proton Compatibility Layer to Native Downloads Folder Feature (explained below)
  • As with the Android APK from before being always included, the Linux version is also included in the Installed Files(no matter what OS you use) so the update size of this Expansion will be much bigger than usual.

  • Instructions at the Safe Area as the Flame Dash is added
  • With the help of the Frost, the Full Powered Construct becomes available
  • Game Manual
Fixed:

  • Frosted Cards Library Entry has glitched Type
  • Fixed Firebrand Task deactivated even when Firebrand is not active
  • Fixed Point Change showing on Player when deducting 0
  • Minor Bugfixing and Further Optimizations

Native Linux Support

Deep Dark Wrath now has a proper Linux build. I mainly did this so the Save Backups are natively accessible so you don’t have to scour through your Proton Compatibility folder. This does also mean the update size is going to be a lot bigger.

With this, the Save Data has been moved. Scroll down near the bottom of this Update article, or read through the Read Me or Official Game Manual accompanied by this Update in the Installed Files to see how moving your Save Data from Proton to Native works.

The Frost Flower

After completing the 7 Oracle Cards, a cool breeze fills the entire Dungeon. Opening up the Frozen Areas from the Safe Area and exploring the Construct area lets you see an opening and may answer where the Icicles of the Construct have come from.
Could this area house a power strong enough to conquer the Darkness?

The Flame Dash

After exploring the new Frozen Areas a bit, you are granted access to the powerful Flame Dash. This allows you to lunge forward in any direction for a price of your Stamina. New Cards like Dash Blast even bolster it further and make it a deadly way to attack!

New Frozen Areas and Enemies

Explore 3 new Frozen Areas, an uncharted area of the Ruins, the Frozen Ruins, and the areas near Mount Wintermoon.

The Frozen Areas also hold new Enemies like the Frost Guard and the Ice Spirits. They’re much tankier and have new attacks like the Frost’s own projectile, and the powerful Frost Beam!

New Enchanted Cards

A ton of new Enchanted Cards become available with the Frozen Areas and Enemies. From Cards that boost your Dash like Dash Blast, boost your Fireball like Waning Frost, or powering up your Oracle options with the mysterious Storm Cards, you now have a ton more options to dive deeper into the Dungeon!

The Frost Construct

With the power of Frost Shards, the Frost Construct becomes fully powered, allowing you to fuse Enchanted Cards you have to your heart’s content. It is no longer limited by Wandering Flames.

New Sword Skins and Armor Trims

Of course, with a new update comes new Sword Skins and Armor Trims! Frost Beam Swords, Icicle Swords, more Scarves, and more are now available for you to try! Summer options like the Straw Hat and the Umbrella Sword are also available!

Optimizations and Bugfixing

I originally wrote here that the game got a 5 FPS hit in performance, but instead v3.0 Frost Flower actually has good performance improvements to show for.

Due to upgrading to Godot v3.6, not only did some bugs get fixed, Deep Dark Wrath also got a bit more optimized. The lighting was pretty heavy previously and is now fixed, which makes the game run a lot smoother now.

I also fixed a bunch of bugs and compatibility issues with Linux and the Steam Deck. While playable in previous versions, generic controllers and the Steam Deck did not bode well with the UI so that needed to be fixed.

What Could've Been?

I had one last big idea for after the Frost Flower Expansion, codenamed the Send Off update. You get to fight the Darkness in a proper boss fight, and because of its demise, you get an alternate ending compared to what this v3.0 Expansion will have.

Other things I had in mind were local or online multiplayer mechanics, like Trading with Other Players or a Co-op way to dive the Dungeon. I also had ideas for a true Perma-death challenge where the Save you have(since you only have one) will have its progress erased when the Adventurer fails the Dungeon.

These were ideas I had written down way back then. But as much as these sounded cool back then, these won’t be added to Deep Dark Wrath.

Final Send-off

I will still update this game with bug fixes if any glitches or bugs arise or optimizations if there are any new things I can find. But at the end of it, this is the end for me and Deep Dark Wrath. It’s been a wild learning experience and I hope to bring all of these new insights into the future games I make. I will still be avidly playing this on travels or when I’m a bit bored and just want to play a nice slightly challenging game.

This has been a dream in the making, and while I’ve had some tough times with it, it’s been a wonderful and enjoyable experience to finally make this game a reality. Thank you, all of you, for the support!

I post regularly on my Tumblr on projects I do so if you'd like you can stay tuned there!. But for the most part, this has been CraftedCircuitry, signing off for now. Until next time!

For Linux and Steam Deck users:

To seamlessly move your save file from the previous v2.9.9 version under the Proton layer to the Native Linux Backup:

  1. Boot up Deep Dark Wrath. Don’t be alarmed that there is no save file yet.
  2. Make sure to not move too much and stay in the Square underneath the Deep Dark Wrath logo.
  3. Press and Hold the Standard Attack Button [ LMB / J / Triangle on PS / Y on Xbox ].
  4. After holding it, you will be prompted to continue holding to move the save to the Native Downloads Folder.
  5. Keep holding it to confirm you will be moving your save.
  6. Once the operation is complete, go to the Save Journal at the Campfire, and Load the Backup. Save your Game and now the Save you had before is now successfully moved from the Proton layer to the native.

To save on battery life, running the Deck at 5W TDP and 45-50 FPS Limit can still provide a relatively smooth experience. Turning On Half-Rate Shading also helps battery life with little to no degradation in quality. Tweaking the Manual GPU Clock speed to lower than 1000 can also stabilize the performance better. The absolute limit is 4W TDP and 24 FPS.

Steam Deck Compatibility

[p]Heyyo adventurers! This will be a Quick Info Dump on how Deep Dark Wrath will work on the Steam Deck(as well as SteamOS) users, and certain game mechanics pertaining to Linux, SteamOS, and Steam Deck changes!

From personal testing, the game works fine on the Steam Deck. I've been playing and testing mostly on the Steam Deck recently. With v3.0+, certain UI navigation fixes were done to properly allow Steam Deck and Generic Controller users to navigate the UI.[/p]

[p]When docking the Steam Deck, setting the Fullscreen Option in the Game Settings to ON can fix the graphics being stuck at a lower resolution[/p]

[p]Linux, SteamOS, and Steam Deck Folders

This is basically just the Native Downloads folder of the Linux Distro or the SteamOS Proton Layer. If you use v3.0+, the Native Linux Folder(in the Desktop Mode for Steam Deck and SteamOS) is where the Backups are sent. If you use v2.9.9 and below, the game will use the Proton Layer as there was no Linux version for v2.9.9 and below.

[p]Moving Save from v2.9.9 and Below on Proton to the v3.0+ Native Linux Files

With v3.0+, the game now has a Native Linux version that uses the Native Directory for placing Files and Save Backups of Deep Dark Wrath.
