The Witcher 3 mod tools are finally on Steam for anyone to craft with

Where would PC gaming be without mods, eh? Sometimes we want new attire, quests, characters, and DLC-sized expansions for our favorite games, and other times we want to fly around Los Santos as Goku while fighting Godzilla. Funny how life is always about balance, isn't it? When it comes to mods then, The Witcher 3 is one of many PC stalwarts that's no stranger to them, and it looks like the scene is going to get even bigger, as CD Projekt Red finally starts open playtests for the game's public modding tools.

The Witcher 3 REDkit Playtest

If you can't wait to get your hands on the editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have some great news for you! Starting today you can sign up to try it out yourself in the official Playtest on Steam.

The Witcher 3 REDkit is a comprehensive modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt we're currently developing. It is based on the same set of tools that were used by our developers to create the game and should allow for nearly limitless freedom in modding it. REDkit will be available free of charge for all owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC and it's scheduled to release later this year.

In order to sign up, simply navigate to the store page of The Witcher 3 REDkit on Steam and request access:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2684660/The_Witcher_3_REDkit/
Playtest access will be distributed in batches. After receiving access "The Witcher 3 REDkit Playtest" will appear in your Steam Library. Remember that the editor will require The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game files in order to work properly, so make sure you have it installed too!

We hope that you'll have a great time testing and everything will be going smoothly for you, but please keep in mind that you'll be running a beta version of the tool and might encounter some issues. Should you run into something serious trouble, you can report it to us using a dedicated form on our Tech Support website: http://thewitcher.ly/REDkit_report

Once you get the chance to try the tool out, we invite you to share your feedback with us — you’ll find a built-in button in REDkit taking you to a survey, but you can also share your thoughts on:

We can't wait to hear what you think about it!

But wait... That's not everything you can help us test!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Steam Workshop Beta

Alongside the modding tools we're also working on enabling the Steam Workshop for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. You can help us check the update by participating in the dedicated Beta.

WARNING: Before participating, make sure to back up your saves!
Steam Workshop Beta testing and The Witcher 3 REDkit Playtest are related to each other, but completely separate. You don't need to participate in both and you can try out the Beta without signing up for Playtest, just as well as you can run Playtest while not participating in Beta.

In order to enable access to the Steam Workshop of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you'll need to join a dedicated group on Steam:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/thewitcher3workshopbeta

Once you're a part of it, all you need to do is find The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in your Steam Library, go to Properties > Betas and select "workshop_test" from the drop-down list. Once this is done, the game should update automatically.

Have fun!

As Dragon's Dogma 2 catches heat for its microtransactions, CD Projekt says there's no place for them in its single-player games

CD Projekt chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz says that he doesn't see a future for the dev's single-player games where it introduces microtransactions.

We're generally past the days of single-player games having scores of microtransactions for tat you don't really need, but it doesn't mean they're completely gone. Luckily, it doesn't sound like you can expect microtransactions in future Witcher or Cyberpunk single-player games, as in a recent interview with StockWatch.pl (via JuiceHead), CFO Nielubowicz spoke about the company potentially using them. "We do not see a place for microtransactions in the case of single-player games," Nielubowicz said. "But we do not rule out that we will use this solution in the future in the case of multiplayer projects."

It's obviously reassuring to know that tentpoles like the Witcher series won't suffer from microtransactions, as they do feel like a thing of the past - y'all remember Oblivion's horse armour? Obviously multiplayer games haven't been freed from the curse of microtransactions, and as Nielubowicz mentioned above they aren't ruled out from CD Projekt's multiplayer titles, but it's a step in the right direction.

Witcher and Cyberpunk games on mobile? CD Projekt is thinking about it at the very least

As CD Projekt gears up for its next round of projects, the Cyberpunk and Witcher developer express interest in expanding to the mobile market.

Everybody wants a piece of the mobile games pie these days. They've long been a strong money maker, but ever since Genshin Impact was released, it's been clear to a lot of developers how much potential there is to develop a dedicated audience on one of the most convenient platforms around. Even Elden Ring might be getting the gacha treatment! So it shouldn't be a surprise to hear that CD Projekt is interested in bringing its IP to mobile. As reported by VGC, CD Projekt was asked in a recent Q&A following an earnings conference whether it would be interested in licensing out its IPs to third parties to make mobile games. "The answer is pretty simple here," responded joint CEO Michał Nowakowski. "The answer is yes, we are considering such a move.

"In fact, we were pursuing, through conversations, opportunities like that. We have nothing to announce just yet, but when the time comes, we would. As for a one-off or other business model related to any such potential partnership, we would not comment on the specifics here, to be honest, plus there is nothing in place that we’re talking about. But there’s no predesigned business model we’re looking at in this case, whether one-off or shared profits. That’s another story. But when the time comes we’ll definitely share information."

CD Projekt Red still 'don't see a place for microtransactions' in singleplayer games

Dragon's Dogma 2 is seemingly a superb game, when it's not buggy or surprising its players with microtransactions.

CD Projekt Red are no stranger to releasing buggy games, but they're less keen on microtransactions - at least for singleplayer games. In an interview with a Polish investor site, CDPR's chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said that they "do not see a place for microtransactions in the case of singleplayer games", but they wouldn't rule it out for multiplayer.
