The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt News

Fans are already counting the days until the launch of The Witcher Netflix series Season 2, which is coming in just a few months on December 17. A few new details have been released, including the first look at Geralt's mentor Vesemir, but more surprising is the confirmation of The Witcher Season 3 - complete with a trailer.

Fans of one of the best RPGs of all time are still waiting on The Witcher Season 2, which launches two years after the debut of Season 1 on Netflix - and will see Ciri get her training under Lambert and Vesemir at the Witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen. Yesterday Netflix released a catch-up trailer titled 'Road to Season 2' along with a load of clips and some surprising reveals.

The most interesting is, of course, the confirmation of The Witcher Season 3 several months before Season 2 hits - along with a short teaser trailer where it's cheekily referred to as 'The Witcher 3'. Gee, that sounds familiar somehow.

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher developer CD Projekt has said it can’t guarantee the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the sci-fi RPG or the 2015 fantasy epic will launch in 2021 – as previously outlined – though that is still the target date for the ports.

In the company's latest shareholders results call (thanks VGC), the company’s SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski noted that CD Projekt wants to learn from the disasterous launch of the game back in 2020 and not over-promise and under-deliver once again.

“The target is to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 late this year,” he said. “At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”

Update - July 29, 2021: Krafton has offered comment on its 'Project Windless'

Krafton has told us that, "while [it] obviously admire[s] the multimedia success of The Witcher, it was actually select members of the media" who made the comparison between the studio's novel-inspired multimedia franchise to The Witcher. The studio also says that "The Bird That Drinks Tears is an amazing IP that features in-depth lore and an incredible new world," and that it "see[s] immense value and untapped potential in the IP, and there is ample opportunity to expand that IP through a variety of mediums - not just games". However, it still sounds like the multimedia project could still have appeal in a similar vein to The Witcher series based on what's been revealed so far. Original story follows.

Earlier this year, PUBG developer and publisher Krafton announced it was going to be expanding a Korean fantasy novel called The Bird That Drinks Tears into a "multimedia franchise", bringing renowned Hollywood concept artist Iain McCaig on board to help bring it to life. Beyond this, nothing was known about what the studio was cooking up other than its codename 'Project Windless', but now it looks like Krafton's got a fantasy game in the works that's reportedly like a "Korean Witcher".

PUBG dataminer PlayerIGN has been reporting on a Krafton press conference held today - and in the South Korean language, it seems - on Twitter, and one of the topics that seems to have been covered is this fantasy novel-inspired IP.

Netflix reveals The Witcher's Season 2 episode titles alongside December release

Henry Cavill is best known as either Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher TV series or as Superman in DC movies such as Batman V Superman, but to many fans he's also known as a massive geek - as illustrated at WitcherCon this week, where Cavill interrupted an interview to drop a nerdy Warhammer 40K reference.

The WitcherCon interview with MTV news correspondent Josh Horowitz mostly covered season two of The Witcher show on Netflix, which got revealed for a December release alongside most of the episode titles and a new trailer. The interview is a proper in-depth chat with Henry Cavill and lasts around 45 minutes, and is well worth a watch as Cavill is amusing throughout.

However, towards the end of the interview, Cavill drops the Witcher stuff and admits that there's something he's been "dying to say" about the set photo behind them. Cavill admits he's been "grinding his teeth" every day on this set because there weren't any other Warhammer fans around to get the reference he wanted to make.
