New Witcher 3 mod adds an in-depth standalone monster hunting mode set in a fresh region the size of Toussaint

Sometimes the simple life is the one I crave when I fire up The Witcher 3. Go away, warring rulers, meddling mages, and otherworldly elven harbingers of the apocalypse, let me concentrate on being medieval pest control. A modder's seemingly heard my protestations, having just released a standalone monster hunting mode for the game, which comes with an optional extraction shootery twist if you fancy an extra challenge.

Elden Ring has been out for - hang on, let me just check my calendar… crikey, that long? - four years now, and despite being a behemoth of a game that I could never imagine seeing absolutely all of, I imagine there are some of you out there that have and crave new ways to go about that. Turns out a relatively important plot point in The Witcher games shouldn't exist at all, so says the books' author


The thing about an adaptation, is that sometimes you've got to twist things slightly to better do what you want to do. Whether that's the right choice or not depends on how militant you are about the concept of faithfulness. When it comes to The Witcher series, however, I expect most people won't care, except for the author of the original books Andrzej Sapkowski himself. His personal gripe? The very existence of different witcher schools.

The Witcher 3's final patch delivering cross-platform mod support has been delayed until 2026

In May this year, despite being deep in development on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, CD Projekt revealed that they'd be whipping out one more patch for The Witcher 3 in honour of its tenth birthday. Said update was originally set to drop in 2025, but has now been pushed back into 2026.


It's a little bit of an extra wait for cross-platform mod support, and given what the studio have been like witch Cyberpunk 2077's seemingly never-ending string of last updates, I'm not ruling out them having secretly decided to add more new stuff to the RPG masterpiece while they're at it.
