In today’s refresh ten new full maps take the place of the four map-seeds previously available in the demo. All but one of the new maps are handpicked by our playtest community on Discord, the last one is a favourite from PLAYERUNKNOWN (seed 1,166,976,388). Read on for a sense of what’s waiting beyond the cabin door.

This update is part of our ongoing maintenance of the demo, and we’d like to thank everyone who has taken time to send crash reports, bugs and errors, and general impressions. Go Wayback! is both an actively developed game and a technology testbed, your feedback via Steam discussions as well as in our Discord is a huge help in guiding our work.

A common piece of feedback has been that previously Go Wayback! was hard to learn and that the game could do more to help newcomers get situated. While we want the game to be challenging, there is a difference between difficulty and frustration. So, as a quick fix while we explore the issue we’ve added a concise Help screen that appears on launch—tap H at any time to bring it back.

Tap H at any time to see the help screen.

Read the full changelog on our User Support Hub. For those of you looking to learn more about PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions and Go Wayback! we have a community fireside scheduled for July the 16th, come and join via our Discord. We’ve got lots to discuss and its a great opportunity to answer any questions about the future of the game.

To get closer to the development of Go Wayback! ask on Discord about our Outsiders program where select community members get early access to the full build of Go Wayback! We’ve just started the Outsiders and already its been a great way to get map recommendations for our demos as well as helping find bugs and develop our game.

If you haven’t stepped into Prologue: Go Wayback! yet, the demo is free on Steam and Epic Games Store and the door to our community Discord remains open for field notes and future seed ideas. See you out there.

Demo for PLAYERUNKNOWN's Prologue: Go Wayback! is out now!

[p]The demo for Prologue: Go Wayback! is now available. Go Wayback! is a survival roguelike that challenges players to explore and navigate millions of distinct 64km² maps that are different every time you play. [/p][p]This demo lets you play the game, with all of the available survival gameplay systems, across four handpicked maps that cycle with no time limit per round, or number of deaths per session.[/p][p]Explore, experiment, and tell us what works, and what doesn't.

Download the Demo via the green Download Demo button on the Store page:[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]In the words of studio founder Brendan “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene:[/p][p]"Today we are putting a demo of Go Wayback! in players’ hands. Sharing our games during early development is a founding principle of our studio and allows the team to iterate on core systems with player input early. We’re looking forward to your stories, feedback, and bug reports allowing us to shape Go Wayback! together over the coming months before early access launch later this summer."

Getting early and honest player feedback throughout development is at the core of how we design games at PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions. [/p][p]Our community Discord offers an open door to our studio and place for our players to see for themselves what we are working on, offer feedback, and have a voice in the future of Go Wayback! [/p][p]As the game is in active development, please head to our User Support Hub to troubleshoot bugs and other unexpected problems.
[/p][p][/p]
Experience four community-picked maps
[p]Go Wayback! is powered by the studio’s in house guided generation terrain system, that leverages machine-learning to generate unpredictable 64km² maps that change every time you play. While the full game features millions of maps, the demo gives access to four community-nominated locations. [/p][p]From foraging-focused forests to near-impossible icy expanses, these picks highlight the scale and diversity of what's possible in Go Wayback![/p]
 • [p]377433344 — suggested by community member lukemars_, who thrives on foraged food.[/p]
 • [p]1113378335 — nominated by community member GameDevZach: “Really tough.”[/p]
 • [p]148705728 — shared by community member sleepyente who called it “maybe impossible.” Community member sanyesz proved otherwise, but be ready to run.[/p]
 • [p]1357488640 — a pick by PLAYERUNKNOWN. Good luck.[/p]
[p]The game objective is to reach a distant weather tower but, with no time limit, the game encourages free exploration, learning, and experimentation with survival strategies.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]If you enjoy the demo, please give us a Wishlist and a Follow here on Steam![/p][p]A special thanks to our Discord community who have helped us develop this build over the past months. We would love your feedback so please do join us on Discord to share your thoughts and talk to the devs and the community. [/p][p]Thanks for being part of the journey.[/p]
