[p]I’ll cut straight to the point: We still have one more update in us for Nightmare House: The Original Mod. [/p][p]Nightmare House goes a long way. Let’s see…[/p][p](And in between we had released In Sound Mind 2021 and Days Without Incident 2025, among other adventures)[/p][p][/p][p]Upcoming Mod Update
[/p][p]There’s an upcoming update which will properly add controller support, as well as a few minor tweaks and more languages supported out of the box. I know we’ve been talking about it for a while, so I apologize it’s taking this long! We’re juggling a lot. [/p][p]The update will also fix the missing Lost Files-files. They lived up to their name truly. [/p][p][/p][p]Classic Mod VS Reimagined[/p][p][/p][p]Since the Mod’s release on Steam, we’ve been busy working on the new Nightmare House game. We thought it was a fun experiment to look at the differences in different areas and compare them. Let’s take a look:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We’re taking time to tweak our aesthetics to keep the Source classic NH look, with modern twists in lighting and gameplay. We can show plenty more and explore our dev approach deeper, if it's something you guys find interesting. Stick around to hear more![/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]Thanks,[/p][p]Ido

Free game Days Without Incident is out now!

[p]So just last year, we released Nightmare House: The Original Mod for free on Steam. You've probably checked it out if you're reading this post here. It was our little gift to you guys for In Sound Mind's 3 year anniversary, and just in time for Halloween. [/p][p][/p][p]Now a year later, we've just hit the button to release Days Without Incident: another small gift to the horror community that makes it all possible! We've put a lot of love and care into polishing up this oldie-but-a-goodie, so please check it out:[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]Days Without Incident is totally free, but if you haven't already, we'd appreciate it if you threw us a wishlist for the follow-up to the Nightmare House mod: a recreated and massively expanded version of the house that started it all. [/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]Thanks so much for playing our games![/p][p]Ido / We Create Stuff[/p]

A new playable experience for this Halloween

[p]It's almost October, our favorite month to play a good horror experience. Last year we were just wrapping up the release for Nightmare House: The Original Mod. The Source classic is finally here on Steam. [/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]This year, we wanted to celebrate In Sound Mind's 4th anniversary this time with another free blast from the past. It was never released, and was kept in a shelf for a long time. This is Days Without Incident.[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]Read more about about the anniversary here:[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]What's next for the mod?[/p]
  • [p]We're still looking into adding controller support to make it playable on handhelds- thanks NBC66![/p]
  • [p]Implementing adding some localizations. We already have French, Portuguese, Spanish (LATAM), Korean and Turkish coming soon. Thanks riteunn, magnusnoos, Noch, Mega Xenium and Altay![/p]

Overwhelmingly Positive reviews + new languages available!

Just a month ago we release Nightmare House: The Original Mod on Steam, and we've since hit 97% Overwhelmingly Positive reviews!

We've also just pushed support for additional languages, including:
- Italian
- Spanish (Spain)
- Hungarian
- Serbian

And we have more in the works, coming soon™ :
- French
- Spanish (LATAM)
- Portuguese
And btw, we're still looking to add German and Korean. If you'd like to help, contact us via Discord if you're a translator with Source experience.

Languages can be changed by launching the game while Steam is in set language, and in the properties -> language when selecting the game. To enable languages not supported by the Steam UI, such as Serbian as of writing this, use `cc_lang serbian` in the console.

Finally, we're working on a few fixes to the game taking in some of your feedback. Generally, at 97% positive we don't want to change much, but we'll address some balance issues and minor bugs. We're also looking into controller support and OST download. Also coming... when it's ready™

In the meantime, most of the team is hard at work cooking with a brand new zombie chef and redecorating the old house from scratch for Reimagined. We haven't published much since the Reimagined announcement but there's A LOT of content in the works, taking notes directly from the original. Nightmare House is NOW AVAILABLE

After a few anxious delays, we’re happy to announce Nightmare House: The Original Mod is NOW AVAILABLE FOR FREE on Steam! Get it here:

[h2]Coming Full Circle[/h2]

The game is originally known as “Nightmare House 2”, a horror Source mod in 2010 released on Moddb. It packaged an earlier horror map of a haunted house, Nightmare House, with a full fledged story of a hospital run over by a failed experiment, Nightmare House 2.

Nightmare House was featured in the Moddb 2010 Mod of the Year Awards, played by super early days of Markiplier, jacksepticeye, PewDiePie and others. Since 2010, we’ve only released one more iteration in 2015 in an effort to fix the issues followed by the 2013 Steampipe update. At the time, shipping mods on Steam wasn’t as accessible- so it’s really exciting for us to finally ship it here now, free and accessible to everyone.

NH:TOM shipping went kinda like this, but hey it shipped

[h2]New Old Horror[/h2]

Now with The Original Mod in 2024, it was super important for us to respect the same classic horror experience. But other than just making it available here, we’ve peppered it with many small improvements.

To start, the mod is now under Mapbase, giving us access to new modern features such as tree sway, better lighting and fog. Thanks Mapbase! We also took this opportunity to retouch a few areas in the game, switched some textures, improved the lighting, fixed the harsh flickering lights across the maps and more.

We have additionally rebalanced a few parts of the game like the boss fight, and since we’re on Steam, there are now Steam Achievements to hunt. You might want to try to find the hidden Dave Co map.

If you’re looking for The Lost Files- we will add them in a future patch sometime soon, but in the meantime you can find the original sources on Moddb.

[h2]New Localization Support - we need YOU[/h2]

One of the best things about Nightmare House is that we now properly support localization. Many of the hard coded strings in the maps were fixed, allowing better localization support. With the help of an awesome team, aside from base English, Nightmare House now supports:
  • Traditional/Simplified Chinese
  • Ukrainian
  • Russian
  • Japanese

And we want to add more- Spanish, French, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, etc. If you’d like to help localize Nightmare House and you have experience localizing games, let us know. Experience with Source mods is a plus but not a must. Hop over to our Discord and just say it, anywhere. Our server is pretty chill so we’ll catch it and ping you back.

We can’t say this enough, so we’ll say it again- Thank you for playing Nightmare House over so many years, back then and again now.

We’d love to hear what you think, whether you’re revisiting the game after a decade, or this is your first shot at Nightmare House. You can really help by spreading the word and leaving a review! And until our next stuff, don’t be a stranger and drop a follow.
