Behind the Magic ✨ | Designing Lunne!
Bonjouuuur!✨
[p]Three years ago, we started dreaming up Lunne, our cheerful witch with a love for baking and a big plan to open her own little bakery in Paris. From the beginning, we wanted her to feel like someone you would love to meet in the real world and hang out with at your local cafĂŠ! And so, today, we'd love to share with you a little glimpse into Lunne's design and art direction!

Of course, we can’t talk about Lunne without mentioning about the artist who brought her to life: Gvanaka. We’d like to send a huge thank you to them for helping us set off on this journey! His imagination shaped Lunne in ways that truly captured her warm, magical spirit.[/p][p] [/p]
Initial Designs
[p][/p][p]Lunne’s earliest designs were a mix of trail and error - and that was part of the fun! Some looks leaned towards school-uniform vibes, while others reminded us of the early 2000s Sabrina the Teenage Witch cartoon (which, let’s be honest, is a fantastic reference in itself ✨).[/p][p]One thing nobody warns you about when you start designing a character is how quickly you find yourself asking some surprisingly deep personality questions. Would Lunne be the type to wear a cardigan, or a jumper? Trousers, or a skirt? Would she show off her witch-iness proudly in her wardrobe… or keep it subtle, blending in with her Parisian neighbours?
[/p][p]Luckily, over time (and a lot of sketches later), we were able to answer all those questions and discover the version of Lunne that felt just right. [/p][p] [/p]
Settling On Witchy Business
[p][/p][p]We wanted Lunne’s personality to shine through her design from head to toes (literally)! That’s where the idea of sneaking in "subtle" bread references came in. You might have spotted it in the initial sketches, among the thick knitting on some of the cardigans - THE BREAD SHAPED BRAID! [/p][p]It was perfect, and so, we have decided to include it in Lunne's hair, as a little nod to her passion as a baker. This playful detail instantly tied her appearance to the story and setting. Not only that, but we made sure to add in a crescent-shaped croissant, nestled nicely on Lunne's witch hat! We think it nicely combines two parts of her personality: the undying love for baking, and being a witch! Two things to proudly show off to everyone she meets ✨[/p][p][/p]
A Little Parisian Flair
[p][/p][p]Once we had a feel for Lunne’s personality and where certain references would come through, we started thinking about how to combine the modern setting of the world with mythical fantasy.[/p][p]That’s when the idea of the classic sailor top came in, simple, cozy, and totally timeless. It just felt… right. Like something you’d see strolling down a Paris street, but still with a little sprinkle of witchy whimsy. And to match the tall hat, a balancing long skirt came in to bring it all together! Let's add some fuzzy, cute socks, and totally not Converse high-angle shoes to keep Lunne's comfortable on her feet as she's exploring Paris. And there she is![/p][p][/p]
The Colours Of Magic
[p][/p][p]Then came colours, oh, the colours! We tried so many different combinations, from darker, gothic inspired, to soft pastels... In the end, every choice had a little story behind it. Our game is centered around emotions, and we have associated them to colors, and designed our characters with that principle... but that a story better told for other characters, as Lunne wears all the emotions![/p][p]Everything else followed, and finally we landed on the palette that felt perfect: simple, yet meaningful, easy to cosplay (wink, wink), yet layered , and of course, uniquely magical. [/p]
The Cheerful Witch of Paris!
[p][/p][p]The final result is the Lunne you all know and love from the game we hope you will all fall in love with! We’re so happy to share Lunne’s design journey with you, and we hope you enjoyed this peek behind the scenes. [/p][p]💬 Tell us in the comments: Which character’s design story would you like us to share next?
[/p][p]And until then… stay magical! 🌟

Hello September! | Monthly Update 🥐
Bonjouuuur~ ☀️
[p][/p][p]The days are getting shorter, the sun is slowly putting itself to rest… We hope you all had a wonderful summer! Here are the latest The Witch’s Bakery updates! [/p][p][/p][p]It’s already been 1 year since the Kickstarter was launched, and we never expected to receive so much love and support.[/p][p][/p][p]A huge thank you for being here with us every day, and for the affection you show towards our characters, our art, and our universe. Without you, The Witch’s Bakery wouldn’t exist. We’re working hard to bring you the very best game possible. We’ll keep spreading magic all around us, and with you. Thank you so much again for being part of this adventure! 💕
[/p]
Heart Dive mechanic update 💕
[p]We’ve reworked an important mechanic in the game. In the bakery, you’ll encounter regrets that accompany customers. Regrets are spectral creatures of many forms! Invisible to humans, they mostly feed on the surplus of human emotions. [/p][p][/p][p]At first, the mechanic was a quick timed event mechanic to synchronize with the person’s heart. But now, it has completely changed: when you use your Heart Dive, a labyrinth appears, representing the client’s inner emotional conflict. Lunne must then guide the emotion to the exit to release it.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p]
Client behaviour in the bakery 👥
[p]We’ve also worked on customer behaviour to make your days in the bakery more varied. Impatient clients, hesitant ones, big orders… Now you’ve had a true taste of Parisian sass 🤭[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p]
And more illustrations! 🖼️
[p]We’ve started adding illustrations to spice up our dialogues! Below, a panel of Mirembe and Ghaldari during their very first meeting! Look at these cuties. And this is just the beginning, I can’t wait for you to meet them all! ✨[/p][p][/p][p]We upload daily content about the development on our Discord, feel free to join us and chat with the community! Thank you for being part of our adventure! 💖

And until the next news.. stay magical✨ [dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

The Witch's Bakery | Live Q&A Highlights!🌟
Bonjouuuuuur~ ☀️
[p]
We recently held a live FAQ on our YouTube channel. If you couldn’t attend the event, we’ve put together some highlights for you! You can also watch the full QnA right over here!
[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]Q: What inspired the game’s concept?[/p][p]A: We wanted to blend our love for urban fantasy, witchcraft, emotions, and the magic of Paris. The game actually started as a visual novel, but we couldn’t resist adding more adventure and gameplay over time. Now it’s become something even bigger and more exciting than we first dreamed!
[/p][p]Q: How was the art style chosen?[/p][p]A: Our art is a love letter to Studio Ghibli, anime, and French impressionism. We focused on bright colours, soft shapes, and symbolism tied to emotions. Fun fact! Even pointy shapes in our designs are not FULLY pointy and sharp![/p][p][/p][p]Q: Will there be RPG elements?[/p][p]A: Not a full RPG (yet!) — but yes, there are foundations being built that we hope to grow into deeper RPG mechanics in future projects. 🌱 Think of this game as the first step in a much larger universe![/p][p][/p][p]Q: What values drive the studio?[/p][p]A: Hope, kindness, diversity, and inclusion. 💕 Our stories are colorful because we want to inspire players and show that emotions, even sadness or anger, are valid and meaningful. The same positivity drives how we work together as a team.
[/p][p]Q: How is development going? Have there been major issues?[/p][p]A: Development is moving full steam ahead! 🚀 Chapter 1 is finished, Chapter 2 is playable and being polished, and Chapter 3 is already in the works. The trickiest part so far has been designing the magical Heart Palace, which turned out to be bigger (and more beautiful!) than we first imagined. It slowed us down a little, but trust us, it’s worth it. ✨[/p][p][/p][p]Q: What platforms will the game release on?[/p][p]A: You’ll be able to play on Steam and Nintendo Switch! 🎮 Future possibilities (like Switch 2 or physical editions) are definitely on the table, but those decisions will come later with our publisher. Stay tuned!
[/p][p]Q: Will the game be available in multiple languages?[/p][p]A: Absolutely! 🌍 The Witch’s Bakery will be translated into English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and Chinese.[/p][p][/p][p]Q: What is Silver Lining, and what’s their role?[/p][p]A: Silver Lining is our publishing partner from the UK. They’re helping us with marketing, communication, and making sure the game gets released smoothly (think: working with first parties like Nintendo, planning launches, etc.). Plus, they’ve worked on amazing titles like Spirit of the North and Outbound. We couldn’t ask for a better team to support us![/p][p][/p][p]Q: How did Kickstarter affect the project?[/p][p]A: Kickstarter changed everything. 💜 Thanks to your support, we kept the studio alive, built our team, and officially launched production. Without our backers, this project simply wouldn’t exist, and we are forever grateful. We cannot wait to show you what's coming and see you fall in love with Lunne's story as much as we did!
[/p][p]Q: Will there be a cookbook?[/p][p]A: YES! 🍰 We’re working with a French pastry chef to bring you recipes straight from the game, including baguettes, chocolatins, éclairs, and more. The digital cookbook will let you bake your way into Lunne’s world. Delicious magic awaits![/p][p][/p][p]Q: Will there be an artbook?[/p][p]A: Currently a work in progress! ✏️
[/p][p]Q: Are there Easter eggs in the game?[/p][p]A: Oh yes. Everywhere. But within the legal limit! 🐣 Expect fun references, inside jokes, and nods to other games, all hidden throughout. Keep your eyes peeled!

We upload daily content about the development of The Witch’s Bakery on our Discord so feel free to join us! 😊

Until the next news… Stay magical! ✨
