1.0.7 patch update

Hello cashiers,

We have a small patch that hopefully fixes some issues.
Fixes
• Overtime Mode - Due to an oversight, the game would try to reference some data from your save file. If you had not created a save file or a save file had not been loaded then it would crash as a result.
  • Multiple Save Slots - When creating more than one save, previous data was not properly cleared and caused new data to inherit previous data values.
  • Skipping Tutorial - Some people could not skip the tutorial video. I'm not sure if this was a bug or a result of bad design. Initially, you had to wait for the prompt to disappear before pressing and holding the escape key. Now it should work immediately when the prompt appears. Take notice of the circular loading icon in the upper right hand corner that indicates time pressed remaining before the skip takes place.
Save file related crashes
We've had reports of games crashing when selecting a save, starting a shift, or being unable to proceed after a certain level in Story Mode. We tried our hardest to replicate these issues to no avail unfortunately.

If you're having these issues I have set up a Google Form where you can upload your save data so that we see if it's due to a corrupted save file. Instructions on how to do this are in the form.

I'll also have a pinned discussion where these issues can be consolidated.

That's it for now. Continue to let us know what issues you're running into and we'll try to fix them as fast as we can. As always thank you for your patience and support!

Calling all cashiers!
Open for business
Wow. It's launch day. First, we apologize for arriving a little past our scheduled release date. It took longer than expected for Steam to approve our build. But know that we took that extra time to improve, polish, and play-test Checkout to ensure that you're getting the best experience.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to everybody who played our demo and gave feedback on how Checkout could be improved. Trust me when I say that we listened to every point and implemented almost every suggestion. Checkout is 100 times better because of you cashiers.

Also, we'd like to thank all the kind words and support that we have received. We never imagined this little game would resonate with so many people. We've been gamers for as long as we can remember and only in the past year did we finally muster up the courage to make games ourselves and now here we are. It truly is a dream come true. We hope our story can inspire you to chase your own dreams as well!
Coming Soon
Here's a list of things that we have in store for Checkout. Some may be more immediate while others may take a little more time to cook.

  • Endless Mode - Play a shift without the timer. Great for when you want to put on a show or podcast in the background.
  • Seasonal Decor - Give a festive vibe in the break room depending on the month.
  • More, more, more - More products, more customers, and customer dialogue lines.
  • Localization - I'm going to try my best.
  • MacOS compatible - 🍎

And of course we will be monitoring the game for any bugs to be squashed and quality-of-life improvements that can be made. We'll try to solve those issues as they arise.
That's all folks
We put in a lot of work in Checkout and had a lot of fun during the process, so we really hope you all enjoy the game! We're excited to see your reactions to a slice-of-life in retail.

Oh, and make sure you get your name at the top of the global leaderboard while you can before the try-hards take over. ;)

That's all we got for now and the timing couldn't be more perfect, because I think your shift is starting soon. We'll see you out there!

Final Demo Update

Hello Cashiers,

We have another demo update and will likely be the last update as we make the final push to complete the full game.

  • Drag and Drop Improvements:
We've enhanced the drag-and-drop mechanic. Previously, it felt clunky, but now, moving and placing products will feel much more intuitive and natural.

  • Increased Chances for Collections:
We've consolidated product departments and made some behind-the-scenes improvements to increase the likelihood of products from the same department appearing.

  • Improved Product Department Readability:
Along with department consolidation, we've updated the visual language for each department, making it easier for players to quickly distinguish between them.

We want to extend our thanks to everyone who played the demo and provided both positive and constructive feedback. We've worked hard to incorporate your suggestions and it has made Checkout an even better experience than we initially envisioned.

Happy cashiering,

Management

Demo Update

Hello Cashiers,

We’ve updated the visual language of some products to better match their department counterparts. This change aims to help players quickly and instinctively identify products within the same department, making the bagging process easier and more enjoyable. While we're not quite 100% there yet, we are making progress and will continue to improve throughout development.

We’ve also enhanced the aesthetics of our menus. We hope you find them more polished and visually appealing!

Lastly, we fixed a bug on the leaderboard screen that was causing duplicate entries to appear when scrolling down. It should now function as expected.

Happy cashiering!

New point system changes

Hello Cashiers,

We're excited to share some updates to the point system. We've made some changes designed to give you more opportunities to earn points.

  • Increased Base Score: You'll now earn 3 points per product within a department group when bagging.
  • Score Multiplier: Bagging multiple groups of products will now apply a multiplier based on the number of groups.
  • "Overachiever" Bonus: The previous requirement of completing 25 or more orders to earn this bonus has been lowered to 10 or more orders.
  • "Speed" Bonus: We've reduced the time threshold needed to acquire this bonus when completing an order.
  • New "Full Bag" Bonus: Clearing a full bag will now reward you with an additional 10 points.

We believe these changes will make the point system more rewarding and encourage better product management.

In addition to the point system, we've also made some UI and quality-of-life improvements:

  • Reduced Down-Time: The time it takes to remove products from the bagging area has been decreased, minimizing down-time.
  • Paused Game Timer: The game timer will now pause when products are being removed and when points are tallied after completing an order.

These adjustments should provide players with more play time and more ways to achieve a high score. Lastly, we'd like to thank everyone for playing the demo and contributing to our leaderboard.

Happy cashiering!
