Devlog #3 - Why Supermarket?!

Hello shoppers!

In today's developer log, we want to look at our action site and what inspired us to choose it.
Super Duper Mart
I must admit, I’ve started researching this devlog by searching for “most famous games supermarkets” in the internet browser BUT even before that I knew that games historically speaking had some pretty epic grocery stores.

For me, one from the headline of this paragraph is the most memorable one. Till today I can recall excitement and fear going there at the beginning of my journey in Fallout 3, it was the great early game location that taught you how to act inside interiors, where you look for loot, and how to sneak and approach enemies. After leaving the Super Duper Market, not only did we have pockets full of loot, but we also felt more confident in the Capital Wasteland.
But where was I?
Yes! A few things decided that the big grocery store would act as our playground:

Visual looks, aesthetics, atmosphere - We all love liminal, raw, and concerning spaces. Supermarkets are usually places where you autonomously meet other people, even if you don’t want to. People are subconsciously connected to this place, and removing them makes the location feel distressing, but also exciting. In Before Exit player is placed in the Supermarket after closing, where we want to express exactly those feelings.

Plenty options of for fun mechanics! - Can you imagine being locked inside a supermarket all night and doing whatever you want? That would be terrifying… but also fun! There are carts to ride, fruits to throw, and products to try - there is really big potential in this playground!

Recent video game trends - Yeah, this is also a solid factor. Recently there was a popular game based in a similar place, it kinda inspired us. Fortunately, there is already another game about bananas that took the most popular spot so that puts us in an obsolete place.

That's all for today. It is worth mentioning that we are also active on X.com: https://x.com/beforeexitgame There you will find more content about our game, feel free to watch.

Devlog #2 - Everyone Out, now!
Hello customers,
Today we want to give you some glimpse on what was on our minds when coming with design of “Before Exit” and present more upcoming content!

Everyone Out, now!

As a studio, we are working fully stationary, directly from the office. Our working hours are very flexible, so when it comes to closing the office, there is no permanent person who holds this duty. Our place is always closed by the last person to leave. That forced us to prepare a special procedure of “closing the office”, where the last person has to check if every device is switched off, windows are properly closed, the water dispenser is disconnected from the socket and so on. Of course, no one is getting fired for forgetting one or two things, but BETTER REMEMBER TO DO THAT!

That idea gave a spark to the prototype of the game that you all see today. It just felt like a basic gameplay loop - after all the hard work of the day there is only one last checklist to complete, and “That’s it!”. But did you remember about closing up the window in the conference room? Or turn the keyhole of the door? Those are feelings that come back to you every time, and I’m sure that you all know how it feels. I bet every one of you who read this has had to go back to their front door at least once to make sure it's locked properly!

So that’s the feeling we want to replicate in our game, this uncertainty when leaving the location. Fear of consequences. Relief when all went well.

You'll check if we succeeded soon!

Devlog #1 - Hello… Boss?

Hello… Boss?

Surely you have once visited a supermarket moments before it closes, in need of that one IMPORTANT thing. The employees already practically have to close the cash registers, clean the aisles, and clear the floors, but you still haven't decided whether you prefer strawberry or vanilla yogurt!

Their impatient gaze and firm tone are supposed to mobilize you to leave because after all, the last customer does not mean the end of their shift. Have you ever wondered what they do literally BEFORE they leave?

This is where our player's story begins.

Immediately after the last person leaves the store, at the behest of your strict supervisor, you are to make sure that everything is ready for its opening tomorrow, and any mistake could cost you your dismissal.
Welcome Customers!
In Before Exit, you have been given the task of going out and closing the Supermarket as a new employee. Washing the floors, and correctly arranging the products on the shelves or expired yogurts are just some of your worries. Will you manage to keep your job?

We would like to present you our new production, an unusual arcade game with roguelike elements, where you will face seemingly routine activities in a humorous atmosphere. Put the game on your wishlist and follow our social profiles to stay up to date with it.
