Wholesome Games Steam Celebration & Indie Arena Booth AAND Xbox Booth

More Exciting News from Us!

Sharing the release of our demo was only the beginning. In the next couple of weeks, we have even more lined up.

We will be at the Wholesome Games Steam Celebration. We've long followed Wholesome Games, and it feels like a seal of approval to be selected for this Steam event.

And next week, we're packing our little electric car and driving the 9 hours from Denmark to Cologne, Germany, to showcase our demo in the Indie Arena Booth and the Xbox booth.

We're bringing some cute freebies and the cutest merch!

Demo release on August 21st

Dear Followers,

We are both excited and a little bit nervous because we have some big news to share!

On August 21st, our demo will go live on Steam for the first time. Simultaneously, we’ll be showcasing Winter Burrow at both the Indie Arena Booth and the Xbox booth at Gamescom—so it’s going to be a busy week. It’s also the first time we’ll get to meet some of you in person!

We’ve been humbled by all the love and support we’ve received since announcing Winter Burrow, and we hope you’ll continue sharing and posting when the demo goes live.

We’re also looking forward to your feedback. As a small team, we appreciate your kindness, but it’s crucial for us to improve the game.

Meet the NPC named Moss
Presenting Moss
Say hi to Moss, the new NPC in Winter Burrow. They are a part of a hedgehog couple who live a nomadic life collecting different types of animal fur tufts to use for exquisite woolen yarn for their beautiful knitwork full of patterns and colors. 🧶🦔

They have come to your area to find the highly insulating white fur of the snow hare. 🐇 Their partner, Pinesap, is the one who does the exploring and searching for fur tufts left behind on branches and bramble by a passing animal. When we meet Moss they are awaiting their partners return.

When we did some research on animal sizes, it surprised us that the hedgehog was so big compared to the birch mouse. At first we though it could pose a problem having an NPC that much bigger than the main character, but we realized it could be an advantage. 🐁🦔

Our Lead Artist Lucy puts it this way: "We really wanted to show some different animals in the game and Moss is the first one you come across. With our birch mouse hero being so small, we wanted to give context by showing you how you compare to other creatures you will be encountering in your adventure.

What we also wanted to show in the character design was Moss' personality, being dependant on their partner and a little bit unsure how to spend their time alone, keeping to their tea and knitting."

A tiny bit of story spoiler below:
We won't spoil the whole story about Moss and Pinesap here, but as Lucy brushes upon, there is an unbalance in their relationship that has made Moss very dependant on their partner and where Pinesap might have exploited that to some degree.

All NPCs in the game has something they can help you learn to better survive the wilderness. Moss will love to pass on their knowledge of knitting, yarn and all the stuff you can make with that. Moss and Pinesap have made knitting into an artform.

As Lucy writes: "The clothing is inspired by the Sami people, showing off the intricate patterns and beautiful designs Moss and their partner dedicated their lives to."

We look forward to show you Moss in the game and to tell you the story about Moss and Pinesap and to show you how it all ends.

Welcome to Winter Burrow

Hallo,

Benjamin (he/him) from Pine Creek Games here👋🌲🎮

First of all, thank you so much to all of you who have showed interest in our game Winter Burrow and thank you for all the kind words. It warms extremely much and it motivates all of us from the team to know, that what we make resonates with others.

It's crazy to think that in 2019 the first sketches were made and the first funding application sent and now 5 years ( and three kids ) later we are here. It all began while I was playing a lot of survival games and started imagining what a survival game with woodland creatures would be like.

I remembered when my mother took me and my siblings to the forest and we would sit on the moss and play for hours with small twigs and leaves pretending we were living on the forest floor. It was amazing and I wanted to transfer that feeling into a video game.

Though I understand the purpose of and appreciate the punishing and relentless nature of most survival games, I had felt a growing need for games where I didn't loose everything in a death I barely anticipated, but where there were still challenge and depth.

All these things became the spark that made Winter Burrow the Cozy Survival Game it is now.

We still have the majority of development in front of us and we look forward to every part of it and to share the progress with you. Pine Creek Games consist of and amazing team of people working fully remote from around the world. We try our best to keep a healthy work/life balance and we appreciate that we can be diverse and have an inclusive and friendly work environment.

A huge thank you to my partner for your support and to my kids for reconnecting me with the childish imagination of playing. Also a big thank you to our publisher Noodlecake for beliving in our game and us and to Xbox for supporting us all the way to our announcement.
