Raid Mode debut at MAGFest

[p]We're at MAGFest in the MAGFest Indie Videogame Showcase! Our very first booth, on a shoestring budget, but hey it's a good time and people are enjoying the build. You can too, from the comfort of your own home.[/p][p][/p]
Beta Build: The Raid
[p][/p][p]"Make a roguelike mode" x 100 -- you have been heard, friends. Introducing Raid Mode, a procedural battlefield with randomized rewards and a new growth system. [/p][p][/p][p]Beta password is [c]magfeststremf [/c][/p][p][/p][p]It's genuinely early going and highly WIP but some of the high notes:[/p]
  • [p]Procedural Jungle biome: Enemy camps! Caves! Rivers! Just one cave, actually, but it is big,[/p]
  • [p]Experience points and leveling up![/p]
  • [p]Wave based combat: can you make it to Threat Level Midnight?[/p]
  • [p]Three new subweapons: an autoturret, a bow, and an energy shield that deflects bullets.[/p]
  • [p]New loot![/p]
  • [p]Plans for stuff that I'm not quite ready to write down here but you'll probably hear me talk about if you visit the Twitch channel.[/p]
[p]It is markedly different from the Campaign Mode, in that you no longer manage an inventory, and you level up through XP instead of finding Gunpower and Proofs of Strength. Well, you can still find those, but there's also a good old fashioned XP bar. [/p][p][/p][p]I would love your feedback so if you're one of the dozens upon dozens of Eye of the Commando players out there, please give it a spin and let me know what you think. Come yell at me on the Discord! [/p][p][/p][p]Current MAGFest high score is 111 kills in Raid Mode. Highest score posted in a screenshot in the comments of this article by Monday, 12 January gets to name a new in game item. I'm hiding this deep in the article text so only true gamers read it. Wait, true gamers have already stopped reading and gone to play the beta. Hmm.[/p][p][/p]
The Future of Campaign Mode
[p][/p][p]The six missions in play right now are not enough! I still have plans for about eight more. If we call the first six missions Act I, then...[/p][p][/p][p]Act I gets one more mission, and the Sewer Level (aka Grimith's Grindhouse) gets expanded and enhanced, to include a boss.

Act II will be six or seven new missions explaining the events that are put into motion with Arsenal's defeat (?)[/p][p][/p][p]Campaign and Raid are two different modes in the same engine, and I can genuinely support them both. It's taking me longer than I'd like to get all this done because I can't put full time hours into the game as I need to make money to pay the lighbulb man, but hey maybe some youtube hero sees Eye of the Commando at MAGFest, falls in love, and I move 50k copies because of a sweet video. [/p][p][/p]
Modding?
[p][/p][p]Big thanks to those who've asked about that, it's very encouraging. My official answer is "Hard Maybe, Leaning Hell Yes", because I don't want to promise more than I can deliver but also it would be awesome to let people use something like a Godot plugin to make their own EotC maps. [/p][p][/p][p]I can't really pour a lot of energy into modding support until I know I have enough interest to make it worthwhile, but it's on me to generate that interest by shipping a compelling game! The beat goes on. [/p][p][/p]
