Raid Mode is Live! Early Access 1.3
Raid Mode is Live!
[p][/p][p]No longer consigned to the MAGFest demo, you can play Raid Mode right now on main. "Start Game" will give you the option to start in either Campaign or Raid and you go from there. Full details below, but the most important part is that there is a Raid Mode Leaderboard for most kills which has already sent some of you running to the start menu to go play. [/p][p][/p][p]- [p]Tutorial area slightly reworked to encourage players to rotate left and right, which they didn't technically have to do until the wooden barricade previously.[/p]
- [p]Don't know which barricade is the wooden one? Fret not, Control will help you out.[/p]
- [p]The Rocket Launcher subweapon is now turn based! The rockets fly out at three tiles a turn, which requires you to actually try and aim at distant enemies. I think it's neat, do you like it?[/p]
- [p]The Flamethrower has been improved with regards to defeating enemy projectiles. It will now send out an invisible bullet-crushing spherical burst around the Commando when you fire it, no longer will incoming shots that are juuuust out of reach still hit you and cause big frowns.[/p]
- [p]The second boss arena has changed. When you enter it, the doors seal behind you, because running away is a guaranteed L and people keep doing that. Also, the enemy spawners have been moved and balanced a little so that three out of four of them are easier to blow up. Finally, the grenadiers in the room now take their time before launching 'nades, giving the player a few turns to get the lay of the land. [/p]
- [p]If you let the title screen sit for about 30 seconds, you get a cool screen with the game's story and an excellent new music track. Just like a real Genesis game :3[/p]
Your current mission is to explore a procedural jungle battlefield, find and capture enemy flags, and liberate sweet loot from the bases and camps therein. There's more to come, including bosses and sub-dungeons (wait can I call them dungeons here? uh, sub-fortresses?) but for now it's escalating enemies and danger while you fight and explore.
Threat: Every action taken increases threat by a small amount, some more than others, and eventually you enter a State of Raid where enemy presence is increased, grenades go flying, and the pressure is turned up. Clearing the State of Raid will reset the tension meter but the overall threat level will increase by 1, which means more and different enemies and increased difficulty. Threat begins at Forest Green and proceeds all the way to Midnight, an enemy-filled hellzone from which there is no escape. Probably.
Experience: In this mode, the Commando gains XP for kills, and levels up! Each level up offers you the choice of something to improve or acquire:[/p]
- [p]Commendations are permanent upgrades to one of your stats that you improve over time.[/p]
- [p]Subweapons are subweapons and you can carry two at once.[/p]
- [p]Main Weapon Upgrades increase the lethality of the big gun you're carrying.[/p]
New Subweapons: Wait this is pretty exciting, hold on.[/p][p][/p]
NEW SUBWEAPONS
[p]
Ayyy there we go, much better.
Bow: Like a real movie commando! Fire a single arrow that does more damage than a bullet and eventually more damage than a rocket. Bonus critical chance against enemy Captains. Use this to quickly eliminate single targets, even at great distance.
Remote Turret: A contraption that does the Freedom for you! Throw it into the battlefield, where it will grab enemy attention by shooting them for 20 or so rounds, more as you level it up. Eventually it will fire rockets too.
Photon Reverser: An energy shield that deflects enemy bullets, converts them into Laser damage, and eventually amplifies their effect. Great for not getting shot, which is big on most Commando's priority lists.
These subweapons will make their way into the Campaign Mode too! Just gotta keep making more Campaign levels.[/p][p][/p][p]Subweapon Evolution is on the to-do list: get them leveled up high enough, defeat a Raid mode boss, and gain the ability to evolve them into a more powerful form. The Bow, for instance, will be able to shoot explosive arrows, or fire laser arrows that bounce around corners and take out enemies that might be behind cover. This isn't in yet but I can't wait.
[/p]
Feedback Desired, Reviews Don't Hurt Either
[p][/p][p]Please please let me know what you think, here, on the forums, in the Discord, or just come by the AdventurePro twitch stream when it is live and yell at me! This procedural mode exists because people asked for it, and I want it to evolve based on player requests. That's how Early Access works!
Also, if you're enjoying the game and haven't dropped a review yet, that would be a great help too. Thank you!
