Development Note - Improving Server Stability

Greetings, Admirals!

This is Ja-ram Jeon, Lead Producer of Gunship Battle Total Warfare.

Due to the recent unexpected game server instability issues, emergency maintenance was performed, and the root errors that caused the issues were identified and resolved.

However, the maintenance lasted longer than we had anticipated, directly affecting the gameplay experience of our Admirals. Regardless of the cause, I feel as if I must apologize for the trouble this situation has caused all of you. Our inability to provide seamless service for our GBTW players, especially during this time, was jarring.

We want to be as transparent as possible.

In this Developer Note, we will explain the root cause(s) of the server issues and what actions we took to resolve them. And more, I’ll outline our future improvement plans to prevent such problems from recurring.
[Service Stability Issues and Response]
In a previous Developer Note released in November 2024, we shared our plans to address issues including server delay and unexpected crashes on iOS devices.

Thanks to the reports and feedback shared by many Admirals, we thoroughly reviewed major game features to detect irregularities, and we’ve been implementing improvements every month.

Our goal has been to identify the root cause of these issues and to optimize the game client and server for a better gameplay environment. Below is a summary of our findings so far:

1. iOS Forced Closure Issue Fixed
Some iOS users reported random crashes during gameplay, and we have applied a fix to prevent recurrence. Many cases have already been resolved, and we will continue to monitor and manage the issue closely.

2. Improved Gameplay Performance
To reduce in-game lag and glitches, we have optimized the way the game loads data and improved memory usage. These changes help keep the game running more smoothly, even during extended playtime.

3. Server Optimization
At times of high traffic, the servers would experience delays or temporarily freeze. To resolve this, we enhanced the servers’ ability to handle large amounts of data simultaneously and simplified the data exchange between client and server. A total of 55 optimization tasks have been implemented so far.

These updates were steadily rolled out in monthly updates:

We’re aware that further improvements are still needed, especially during large-scale unit deployments where lag can occur, and are actively working on additional optimization.
[Our Commitment and Next Steps]
While our team is always looking to improve your gameplay experience, we recognize that we may have overlooked some key areas in an attempt to fix the issues.

We are currently working around the clock to resolve all ongoing issues and promise to double down on our efforts to maintain stable service going forward.

Moving forward, we are committed to the following:

1. Conducting more rigorous testing before updates to detect and address potential issues early.

2. Strengthening real-time monitoring to ensure faster response to any emerging issues.

3. Optimizing unit operations to significantly reduce lag during large-scale deployments.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the recent service instability.

Your feedback is valuable to us, and we are committed to incorporating that feedback into future updates to provide a more stable and enjoyable gaming experience.

Thank you for your continued support for Gunship Battle Total Warfare.
