Behind the Dice: Shops
[p]This week, on Behind the Dice, we asked the devs: Tell us about another feature / mechanic in the game![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Another feature we added quite late into the game's life, was the choice between shops. Originally the player would find the same shop inbetween each fight, there are lots of benefits to this such as predictability (from the player's POV) and simplicity, for us. This omni-shop worked well, but I found it a bit restricting in terms of what we're able to deliver in that 'between fights' space.[/p][p][/p][p]I decided to separate the shops, and offer the player a choice of randomly selected shops instead. This is admittedly more complicated, and less obvious to the player on its face, so we've already been through a couple of iterations to make sure the player understands what they're being faced with when there is a choice to be made. [/p][p][/p][p]Overall, I really like the moment of decision when faced with the shops, it gives the player more agency over their build and allows for some tough decision making, which is always good in a roguelike I would wager. It also gives us plenty of modular space to add more encounters that aren't straight shops, where there would have been no room for these encounters previously.[/p][p][/p][p]
[/p][p]⠀⠀[/p]

[p][/p][p]Look at this, absolutely cracked[/p][p]
[/p][p]Roll any dice and thou shalt be rewarded.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Until next time!
