Pirate survival game Windrose is having a moment. It's one of the most popular demos at Steam Next Fest, it's got so many concurrent players it shows up on Steam's most-played charts, and earlier this week it cannonballed to over 1 million wishlists. Plus, its combination of survival systems, open world pirate ship battles, and uplifting sea shanties makes for a heck of a lot of fun...

I've already played the demo of this co-op pirate survival game for 7 hours, but the boisterous sea shanties my crew sings keep me coming back for more

One completely unexpected side-effect of the pandemic: I got really sick of sea shanties. When everyone was stuck at home clinging to TikTok for their sanity, it seemed like at least one out of five people recorded some sort of shanty-related content, and it didn't take long before the idea of hearing yet another spirited aquatic anthem made me want to throw myself off a boat...

1,000,000+ wishlists, a message of love from us & remastered Drunken Sailor

[p]Hey everyone, and welcome! [/p][p]We’re truly grateful you decided to give our game a chance. Windrose means the world to us, and we hope that, over time, it might come to mean something special to you too.[/p][p]This past week has been a real whirlwind for our team with all the attention the game has been getting. And as the spotlight grows, so do expectations. We’re working hard every day to live up to them. There’s still a lot ahead of us, and honestly, it can feel a little scary at times. Our biggest goal is to ship a great game and let you be the judge. It may take time, but with your support, this journey becomes a lot easier (and a bit more swashbuckling, too).[/p][p]With all that said, thank you—sincerely—for playing the demo, leaving reviews, sharing feedback on Discord, showing off your amazing builds, posting highlights, discussing, suggesting, and inviting your friends… in short, for showing us that Windrose means something to you and sharing that feeling with others. A few weeks ago, we couldn’t even have imagined this.[/p][p]And thanks to all of you, our game has now passed the 1,000,000+ wishlists mark. That’s an incredible milestone, and a reminder of how much work we still have ahead. Thank you so much.[/p][p]
And now, as the demo continues to sail through Next Fest, our remastered Drunken Sailor trailer is riding the waves alongside it. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it here:[/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]It shows off core parts of the game: several biomes, naval combat and boarding, and our classic “build, craft, survive” formula, plus bosses and other features planned for the Early Access version.[/p][p]And there’s a little extra waiting for you there, too: play the demo to unlock a special reward you’ll be able to use to decorate your base once Early Access begins.[/p][p][/p][p]Thank you again for being here with us.[/p][p]Next time, let’s meet at IGN Fan Fest. Tune in on February 25 for a brand-new Windrose trailer we can’t wait to share with you.[/p][p]With full hearts and deep thanks,
Windrose Crew
