EA and Codemasters are skipping a year with their F1 games, right as the sport gets some big rule changes

There's a bit more excitement than usual, even among veteran car-watchers like me, for next year's F1 season. You see, the series is bringing in some new rules governing what its cars will look like and how they'll perform, meaning there's more potential on paper for serious changes to the established pecking order. Given that, I'm a bit unsure how to feel about EA and Codemasters having announced they're not making an F1 26, instead skipping ahead to 2027 with a DLC to fill the gap.

SEASON 4: SURVIVAL CHALLENGE
[p]In a real-world season that continues to be unpredictable despite just a handful of races left on the calendar, we’re keeping you entertained in the virtual world too in Season 4, celebrating a breathtaking year.

To read the detailed Patch Notes, detailing all the changes made to the game, head to the separate post linked here.[/p][p][/p]
New Content: Survival Challenge (Nov 12 - Jan 7)
[p]With each new special livery revealed by teams throughout the season, we’ve been hearing you loud and clear that there have been some highlights you want added to F1® 25, on top of those already added to the game since launch in May.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing. In our biggest drop yet, you can expect a total of four Special Liveries added to the game from Ferrari, Red Bull, Sauber, and Racing Bulls, with six Driver Helmets up for grabs too.

You’re going to have to work for them though! Introducing Survival Challenge, a new limited-time game mode available right from the Main Menu.

Offering you a new way to play, Survival Challenge is a quick-fire, instant-action multiplayer mode where you’ll battle it out against four others in a fast-paced event. After lights-out, you’ll have two minutes to race on-track, then, when the timer hits zero, the car in last-place will be knocked out. Then, periodically, each backmarker will be wiped out leaving just one car to claim victory.

As you play, you’ll earn a number of Survival Tokens that can be exchanged for the Special Liveries and Driver Helmets in the Event Catalogue.

Here’s some quick facts about Survival Challenge:[/p]
  • [p]With DRS immediately available and no collisions on the first lap, you can expect some quick starts, with each race taking no longer than 5 minutes to complete[/p]
  • [p]Circuits include those featuring at the end of the real-world calendar (Brazil, Austin, Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi) as well as some of the more popular tracks from our game like Spa and Austria [/p]
  • [p]Survival Challenge is split into two parts, with Tokens earned being wiped between parts 1 & 2, so be sure to exchange them before they’re gone[/p]
  • [p]The Event Catalogue rewards will change from Part 1 to Part 2, with two liveries and three helmets available in each[/p]
  • [p]It’s your choice which order you unlock the items in the Event Catalogue, with Liveries valued costing more than Helmets[/p]
  • [p]There are four event goals per week, each rewarding 800, 1200, 1500, or 2000 Tokens, allowing you to earn a maximum of 5,500 Tokens before these goals reset at the end of the week[/p]
  • [p]There are performance-based Token rewards too. Depending on whether it’s during Part 1 or Part 2, you’ll earn Tokens for criteria such as number of laps completed, how many events you finish, and distance travelled[/p]
  • [p]Survival Tokens cannot be purchased in any way and are only earned by playing the Survival Challenge mode[/p]
[p]I’m sure you’re wondering which Special Liveries and Helmets will be available to unlock. Here’s the rundown for each half of Season 4, as well as their corresponding cost to unlock:
[/p]
Part 1 (Nov 12 - Dec 10)
• [p]Ferrari Monza livery - 2400 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Sauber Miami livery - 1800 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Hamilton Monza helmet - 1250 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Leclerc Monza helmet - 1250 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Antonelli Miami helmet - 900 Tokens[/p]
[p][/p]
Part 2 (Dec 17 - Jan 7)
• [p]Red Bull Japan livery - 2400 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Racing Bulls Miami livery - 1800 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Verstappen "Orange Lion" helmet - 1250 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Verstappen Japan helmet - 1250 Tokens[/p]
  • [p]Russell Miami helmet - 900 Tokens
    [/p]
[p]As with all Special Liveries, once unlocked you can choose which livery you’d like to use when racing as that corresponding team, including in Career. Helmets are added to your inventory, equippable to your custom driver.

We can’t wait to hear what you think of Survival Challenge.

[/p]
Driver Ratings & Roster Update: Azerbaijan to Mexico
[p]With just a handful of races left on the calendar, the Driver’s Championship is still up for grabs, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri aiming for a debut title and Max Verstappen pushing for a remarkable 5th successive trophy.

As always, we’ve analysed the latest batch of real-world results, spanning Azerbaijan to Mexico, and we’re updating the Driver Ratings accordingly, available to apply to existing saves from 10am UTC on November 14.

That’s not all. Argentinian Franco Colapinto will line-up alongside Pierry Gasly at Alpine, with this change applying to new Career saves. Existing saves will still have Jack Doohan present, with Franco Colapito appearing in the Driver Market from the pool of 2024 Formula 2™ drivers.

To learn more about Driver Ratings and how they’re calculated, you can take a look at this article. Here are some of the headline changes:
[/p]
Franco Colapinto - Stepping In
[p]The first Argentinian on the Formula 1® grid in over 20 years, Colapinto has proved to be an incredibly popular driver with fans around the world.

Now a familiar face on the grid for the 2025 season, Franco has had mixed fortunes at Alpine, and mirrors the driver he replaced in being the only ones without a championship point.

Whilst he makes the switch in F1® 25 in the most recent update, his stats have been updated from his 2024 Formula 2™ card, reflecting his performances in the sport since his first race in Imola. His Formula 1® card starts with 68 Experience, 71 Racecraft, 73 Awareness, and 75 Pace resulting in an Overall Rating of 73.[/p][p][/p]
Carlos Sainz - Unprecedented Turnaround
[p]Off the back of a string of bad results and little-to-no luck, Carlos Sainz had one of the more notable sets of stat drops in the previous Driver Ratings update.

However, seemingly taking those drops personally, his performances and fortunes have flipped completely. Going from three points in the previous six races, Carlos amassed 22 in the following three, including a P3 finish in Baku, securing Williams’ first full-points podium since Lance Stroll at the same circuit in 2017.

As such, Sainz’s rating swung back the other way, with improvements in Pace (+2) and Experience (+1) seeing his Overall rating climb back to 85.[/p][p][/p]
Ollie Bearman - A Rookie Rocking
[p]Despite being paired with experienced teammate Esteban Ocon for his first season at Haas, Bearman has proven himself as a talented driver in his own right on multiple occasions in 2025.

Whilst his points total may not have reflected some assured drives, a remarkable P4 finish in Mexico saw his total leapfrog his teammate’s tally, with a result that matched the team’s best ever finish.

Breaching 80 for his Overall Rating, his Racecraft and Pace have each jumped three points, with his Experience getting a two-point boost too. [/p][p][/p]
Oscar Piastri - Pressure Builds
[p]The Piastri we’ve seen in the last handful of races has been a very different driver to the one that started the season. With a strong championship lead and 12 top three finishes in the first 14 races, he didn’t grace the podium in any of the four races for this update, starting with a Lap 1 DNF in Baku.

Whilst his other finishing positions have hardly been disasters, he’s perhaps felt the pressure of the chasing pair behind him in pursuit of becoming world champion.

Oscar is the only driver who’s Overall Rating has dropped with this update (-1) due to drops in Awareness (-2) and Pace (-2).

With Ratings boosts for Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris, and several other drivers, be sure to check out the full Driver Ratings breakdown here, with updates published alongside the update on Thursday.

[/p]
Podium Pass: Season Four (Nov 12 - Jan 7)
[p]As with every new season, Podium Pass gets a refresh too. As you hit the track in all areas of F1® 25, you’ll earn XP towards each of the 50 levels of Podium Pass with exclusive rewards available in both the Free and VIP tiers.

Amongst the Free tier rewards, you’ll find a full Shatter livery set (vehicle livery, race suit, gloves) and 2,500 PitCoin, whereas the VIP rewards include the Atlantic 2 sponsor livery set, and 6,500 PitCoin.

Track your progress through the Podium Pass by opening the Player Hub from the Main Menu and be sure not to let those PitCoin go to waste by visiting the Podium Pass Store from time to time.[/p][p][/p]
Season Four Gift: Early December
[p]Keep your eyes peeled to your in-game inboxes in early December, as we’ll be dropping a free gift to all players.
