Combat Class & Skill Line Refresh
The first of the team's planned improvements to ESO’s combat and classes features a complete reimagining and redesign of the Dragonknight class and skill lines and a rework of the Two Handed skill line.

Dragonknight

The Dragonknight has received a major rework to both its core abilities and their look and feel. This includes redesigning and rebalancing its three skill lines so that the class now leans more into its core themes of attrition-focused combat while enabling a broader suite of roles.

In addition, the Dragonknight also enjoys a complete rework of its ability animations, VFX, and sounds, modernizing the way the class feels to play.

Two Handed

Like the Dragonknight, the Two Handed skill line also received major reworks to its animations, VFX, and sounds, improving the way its various abilities feel to use in combat.
Player Experience Improvements
Update 49 also features a massive collection of Player Experience improvements, produced by a dedicated team that focuses on player-requested quality-of-life additions.

These additions include new mounts available from the game’s stablemasters, the ability to easily change your attribute and skill point allocations for free, the addition of account-wide outfit slots, furnishing limit increases for various homes, and much more.
Base Game Additions
ESO is an evolving game, and as we add new adventures, systems, and worlds, we may choose to make changes or additions to what is included in its most basic version. With Update 49, we’ve decided to make the following adventures, previously DLCs, fully available to all players who own the game:
  • Imperial City
    • Including the PvE/PvE zone and storyline, plus two four-player dungeons
  • Orsinium
    • Including the Wrothgar zone and storyline
  • Thieves Guild
    • Including the Hew’s Bane zone and Thieves Guild storyline
  • Dark Brotherhood
    • Including the Gold Coast zone and Dark Brotherhood storyline

Previously available as DLCs from the Crown Store or via ESO Plus membership, these four classic adventures are now included and available for all as ESO base-game features. Note that you will not need to claim the DLCs to own them, they will be automatically added to your stories in your Collections UI when you log in.
ESO Plus Additions
If you’re an ESO Plus member, Update 49 grants a series of additional buffs and benefits as part of your regular membership.

Seasonal Tamriel Tome Benefits

First and foremost, the new additions include benefits related to the upcoming Tamriel Tomes system:
  • A 10% increase to Tome Points earned from challenges
  • A Cache of 2,000 Tome Points for each month of membership
  • A Premium Tamriel Tome Token for each month of membership
    • Acquire 12 tokens in total to unlock a Premium + Bonuses Tamriel Tome

Note that seasonal Tamriel Tome ESO Plus benefits begin with the launch of Season Zero on April 2, 2026. New memberships from March 9, 2026 onward will receive their seasonal currencies immediately, while those with active memberships between January 1, 2026, and March 9, 2026, will have their currencies retroactively awarded on March 30, 2026. In both cases, the currencies will not be spendable until the Season Zero launch.

Additional Membership Boosts

Update 49 also includes further expansions to existing ESO Plus membership boons, such as:
  • Increase to Transmutation Crystal Capacity
  • Increase to Housing Furnishing Limits
  • NEW: Increase to Antiquity System Lead Times

You can read more about the ESO Plus additions in this blog.
Gold Coast Bazaar
With Update 49, you can discover and peruse the Gold Coast Bazaar, a brand-new in-game rewards store that provides a consolidated way to acquire returning fan-favorite (or heavily requested) collectibles, consumables, and items.

First opening on March 25, 2026, with a selection of long-term items, the Gold Coast Bazaar’s seasonal offerings will be available with the launch of Season Zero on April 2, 2026. To acquire items from the Gold Coast Bazaar, you will need to first earn Trade Bars via various in-game activities, including participating in events, Twitch Drops, and the upcoming Tamriel Tomes.

Acquire returning collectibles in the Bazaar

Note that with Update 49, any Event Tickets you retained from previous in-game events have been converted into Trade Bars. You can spend them at the Gold Coast Bazaar and with the Impresario on March 25!

You can learn more about the Gold Coast Bazaar via this preview blog.
Tamriel Tomes
A new battlepass-like system that arrives with the launch of Season Zero on April 2, 2026, Tamriel Tomes offers greater choice when it comes to unlocking and earning in-game rewards. Each Tome is specific to its season and includes a broad selection of in-game currencies, consumables, and collectibles, many of which are available for free, no purchase required.

As you complete Challenges, you earn Tome Points that unlock new pages of rewards and allow you to acquire individual items at will. With both weekly and seasonal challenges available, there will always be a wide range of options available for every kind of ESO player.

Unlock and earn new rewards

While a Tamriel Tome will always have free options, you can also buy the Premium Tamriel Tome or the Premium + Bonuses Tamriel Tome to have even more rewards available. How you choose to engage with a season’s Tome is entirely up to you!

For more information about Tamriel Tomes and to preview some of its rewards, visit this blog.
The Night Market
The first of its kind, the Night Market is an “Event Zone” available from April 29, 2026, until June 17, 2026. In this new kind of zone and adventure, you explore a new part of the Oblivion realm of Fargrave, pledge your service to one of three unique factions, and test your skills against challenging PvE encounters.

Work together in the Night Market

Home to new characters, quests, and rewards, the Night Market will return in later seasons, giving you the chance to support a different faction and further explore this enigmatic and dangerous new world.

We’ll be sharing more about the Night Market as we get closer to its April 29 launch, so keep an eye out for more details soon.
Seasonal Foundations
With the Update 49 base-game patch, free for all ESO players, the foundations have been laid for all of Tamriel’s future content additions, improvements, and rewards. Don’t forget many of these features won’t be available in game until Season Zero officially kicks off on April 2. To learn everything about this base-game patch, check out Update 49’s Patch Notes.

There’s even more coming to Season Zero later in the year, so keep an eye out for more details in future updates, too. Are you excited about these major changes and additions to your ESO experience? ESO’s Devs Share Insights into Update 49’s Player Experience Improvements

Members of the ESO development team go into detail regarding Update 49’s Player Experience additions.

There are a ton of player experience improvements coming in the Update 49 base-game patch. This work is courtesy of a team within the studio that focuses on player pain points, community requests, and other fixes to your time in Tamriel. We’ve asked some of them to share their process—and what additions they’re most excited about as players themselves!
Choosing Changes
“We have a long list of improvements we want to make to the game,” says Systems Designer Lyndsay Beaver. “Many items on the list have come directly from players in the form of forum posts, conversations with players at conventions, and events like player summits we’ve had. Other items are improvements that we as devs (and players ourselves) want to see in the game, or systems we’d like to revisit. But the question of prioritizing all of that is the tricky part.”

“There’s a lot of technicalities that we have to consider,” adds Content Designer Jordan Sarnovsky. “From developer bandwidth to tech demands or what release an improvement would be the most applicable to at any given time.”

Update 49’s first wave of improvements

For the additions and improvements arriving in Update 49, the team set some specific goals that helped guide their choices.

“Overall, we were primarily focused on reducing friction, eliminating some of the monetary ‘feels bads,’ and updating some systems that were starting to feel dated, while ultimately trying to provide something for every kind of player,” shares Beaver. “The amount of improvements and systems revisited was very broad, and we couldn’t get to everything we wanted to this round. The good news is any of the ideas that didn’t make 49 remain on our list for revisit in future packages.”
Community Help
Of course, the team doesn’t make their choices in a vacuum. Feedback from ESO’s players is vital to ensuring the changes are targeted where they are most needed.

“The player base has already arranged collection threads of suggested improvements or callouts of some of their greatest pain points,” says Sarnovsky. “And we reference them frequently."

“Public Test Server feedback and forum posts are also sources that we read and strive to act on,” explains Beaver. “Even now, we’re working on updates that have come from forum posts that we think are great ideas. We’ve also had guild summits where items bubbled up that ended up on our list.”

Community communication is key

Community involvement doesn’t stop with the initial suggestions and ideas, either.

“Once we had our final list and the changes we wanted to make, we held focus groups with community members, taking their feedback to further hone some of the numbers,” says Beaver. “We even noted possible further changes for features that were going in for Update 49 but could be improved again in later updates.”
Experience Excitement
With all the great Player Experience changes coming in Update 49, it’s hard for anybody on the team to pick a favorite.

“Housing furnishing limits are getting bumped up for quite a few home sizes,” says Beaver. “Dedicated housing players are fully aware of this, but more casual players may not realize what a dramatic change this can be to their placement and decorating freedom. Even just from an inventory standpoint, if an item isn’t placed it has to be stored. So, not only can you more generously decorate, but you’ll free up some bag, bank, or storage space for all new furnishings.”

“I think the mount training additions are the easiest to overlook but will immediately influence quality of life for players,” adds Sarnovsky. “Nothing is more frustrating than shelling out gold and feeling like it barely did anything, so having the training increment in threes really helps alleviate that.”

Enjoy stablemaster upgrades

In addition, the team has some personal picks for changes that should really help them out as players, whether for builds or fashion.

“I’m excited for being able to respec for free, right in the UI,” says Beaver. “It will allow me to tweak a build on the fly, and even just try out new skills without cost, or a trip to a city. I think that’s a big win for flexibility and experimentation.”

“I’m big on aesthetics, so the ability to hide pieces of my clothing and armor is huge for me and is something I’ll be using on every single character of mine,” says Sarnovsky. “The best look isn’t always synonymous with the best stats.*”
Base-Game Boons
The team has taken a great many steps toward an improved player experience in this upcoming base-game patch, evident in the tremendous list of changes. What’s coming after Update 49? That would be telling…for now. Let us know which of the upcoming player experience changes excites you the most, and which additional features you’d like to see in the future via Bluesky, X (formerly Twitter)Instagram, and Facebook
