April Updates – New Crimson Waves Character Art

It’s time for our monthly updates for Crimson Waves on the Emerald Sea: Amaranthine Moon! This month we focused on sprite artwork and bringing it together in engine.

Our sprite artist Dule has finished the main character sprites, namely for Nemo and Ambrose! Nemo (right) is Lucie’s older brother while Ambrose (left) is his partner. Lucie lives with both of them at Ambrose’s home.

There will be several more characters we’ve yet to introduce in the story, but these 6 (Lucie, Cecil, Elm, Rowan, Nemo, Ambrose) are our main cast. Cecil, Elm, and Rowan are the love interests for Lucie while Nemo and Ambrose are her family and emotional support.

Nemo especially is a beacon of support – and brutal honesty – for Lucie. Not only is he her older brother, but he’s also the only person Lucie has known her entire life. And in turn, Nemo has known her longer than anyone else and knows her antics and stubbornness better than anyone.

If you’ve played the demo (or the original game), then you’ve already met Nemo and Ambrose. If you haven’t played the demo yet, then don’t worry – we’ll be updating the demo soon with this new character artwork and a few other improvements! There might even be a new CG in it~

There’s only 1 month left until our Otome Games Celebration event, which is our Steam festival for otome games! We’ll have some brand new art in the works to share just for it, so stay tuned~

We were planning to launch our Kickstarter campaign this month, but we’ll be delaying it a bit as we figure out what to do with the current manufacturing & shipping situation in the world. We have most of our merch already printed, but not all of it.

Last but not least, our new artwork for this month is this adorable chibi of Lucie by Shirokururu! If you like this chibi, you may like it as an acrylic pin, which you can get here~ We have a few already produced and ready to ship.

Be sure to wishlist the game on Steam to support development!

March Update – Crimson Waves Scripting

March is halfway over so it’s time to take a look at progress from the past 2 weeks!

We’ve been chipping away at the game, and our main progress this month has been in the writing section and the programming section.

For the writing, Runa has refined the outline and some of the finer points of the mystery as well as upcoming scene variation planning. Crimson Waves on the Emerald Sea: Amaranthine Moon is a mystery visual novel as well as an otome, so careful consideration goes into laying out clues as well as laying out the romance. It should be solvable and make sense as to why things happened the way they did.

CWES: Amaranthine Moon also gives players a variety of choices outside of which love interest they want to be with, most notably if Lucie should be a vampire or not. Lucie is a human at the beginning of the game, but only because she’s been taking the cure to vampirism. If the player decides to not let her take the cure anymore, Lucie goes back to being a vampire. This can change how events happen drastically in some parts of the story—you’ll just have to try it and see in the full game!

The other area we made progress in was in the programming department, which is my area! I was busy scripting some of the scenes past the demo area. Not all of this was working on the post-demo parts, because I also had to set up some additional things (like additional expressions, color tints, backgrounds) to future proof the work.

Here’s a preview of one of the scenes!

My personal goal for the rest of March is to finish scripting the 3rd day so it’ll be fully playable up to that point.

Last but not least, we have this lovely artwork of Lucie, illustrated by Kiwi~
